End of Mankind?
I still like George Carlin's theory about how we're essentially a "bad case of fleas" to the planet.
Sure, we're a nuisance, but do we honestly think we're going to destroy it? Doubtful.
We may just end up making it inhabitable for the current lifeforms on the planet and we'll prolly die out, making way for new species that are adapted to the newer type of environment.
You can look at the ruins of Pompeii, all the cities destroyed by hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes, etc...THEN ask youself if we're really in control...
I doubt it.
It's just a nutty theory, but it makes sense to me.

My point was, your attack was unwarranted in the thread's context. But whatever, I won't dwell on it anymore.

I usually try to strike a compromise between both.
FOR EXAMPLE, I believe Antarctica exists although I have never been there myself. It features in every world atlas after 1820, and I've seen pictures and other media about it. The most probable thing in this case is to accept that Antarctica most likely exists. HOWEVER, I believe that over 80% of this world's peoples believe in some sort of god or divinity. Although I do think there are phenomena we cannot (yet) explain, I'm hard pressed to accept the concept of a god, certainly a christian God. So this is something I do not accept out of lack of evidence.
HOWEVER, I am not completely dismissive in my scepticism. I have tried "supernatural" approaches to cases more than once, just to see if they would work. And most of the time, they didn't. There is definitely more between heaven and earth, but it's not something you and I can talk about, give names, explanations or examine.
Why did you ask?
Now; how about the dinosaurs?

I wonder how creationists explain dinosaurs, whose evolution spans about 500 million years.
But perhaps that is stuff to debate in another topic.

I am more concerned about the human race destroying itself than any cosmic apocalypse. This coming from a scientific point of view.
I am a religious person but I like to see other peoples point of view.

There is a Christian Scientist that has offered any scientist $40,000 dollars if they can prove to him that evolution did occur. Nobody has been able to prove it thus far. You have to have faith to believe in evolution. A little fact that is kind of funny, Charles Darwin better known as the "Father of Evolution" re-nounced his beliefs on his death bed. I don't know where I'm going with this so I'll just stop. P.S. This isn't discussing religion, I'm just stating a fact. I'll give anyone a 1,000,000 reward if they can prove to me that God exists. So how about those dinosaurs? VQ |
I believe God exists because:
1. There have been many times I have prayed for things and I have had them answered. I could see someone saying it was coincidence the first couple of times, but after many are answered I believe it stops being coincidence.
2. When my brother died of cancer, he went with a smile on his face and he literally had a glow around his face. The doctors said they had never seen anything like it before. It had been as if he saw an angel.
3. I've seen people with there lives in the gutter, and they pray to God and their lives literally do a 180, and they get out of everything that they were involved in.
4. At one of my friend's birthday parties, his dad was showing us his gun collection. This kid Andrew, was pointing a gun right at my friend Brian's stomach, about three feet away from him. The gun went off and the bullet literally went through him. The found it burried in an old Civil War book that was directly behind where Brian was standing. Bullets don't just curve around people.
5. My brother's life and marriage have been in absolute shambles as of late. He went to church seeking answers and later on that same week, everything started falling into place and he is getting back on his feet.
Those are just a few reasons out of the hundreds that I can say I believe God is real. Trust me none of these stories are made up. I swear on my brother's grave.
To the mods: This is not to start religious discussion, the guy said "Prove God exists." So I am simply answering a question.

These stories strengthen my belief in incomprehensible spiritual forces, but these don't need necessarily be God. I guess that's a matter of interpretation. In that light, polytheism or pantheism would seem more likely to me.
