Yeah, I remember that if you kept blocking in Soul Edge you'd eventually shatter your weapon. I liked that feature, I was a little disapointed when they took it out in Soul Calibur. Dou you think that the MK team will keep its promise and have destructable weapons?
Oh, I remembered something that MK took from another fighting game. It took the cosmetic damage from Tao Feng, and appearantly the rippable clothing. It's also said that, just like in Tao Feng, the players will be able to break each others body i.e. arms and legs. This brings another thing to mind, Boon said that limbs can be severed, so does that mean you'll be ablt to dis-arm(puns *shudders*) your opponent mid-battle, and if so then it barrows from an aracde game from the 90's, Time Killer. Not that it's a bad thing.*Under the breath* they also barrowed the Chest Murmur, but nobody brings that up. Kira's a perfect example.

mkda came out before tao feng, Also the art of fighting also had cosmetic damage.

I think everyone of you is nutty, i would never in my life compare a 3-d fighter to a 2D fighter, i think they are completely different experiences. Granted VF practically started #D combat, BUT who remembers Battle Arena Toshinden??That started the weapon based fighting in 3D as well as projectile-throwing combat. Tekken too fighters to a whole new level, with graphics that were near-arcade perfect! It also brought fighting games back into the mainstream as did Tekken 2.( ill be hard-pressed to find ppl that say Tekken 2 isn't one of the greatest fighting games in the world!) Mortal Kombat. DOA, isnt all that its cracked up to be. The only reason why ppl like it is because when it came out on XBOX ppl were so happy they finally got an answer for Tekken. Hey who remembers MK4??yea that game sucked because it couldnt do half the stuff Tekken could do...

OK the best way to put this would be like so...Black Sabbath was really the first metal band, true?? Then the 80's came and u had a million metal bands, true?? 90s gave u Korn Slipknot, Deftones, and now we got Disturbed, Godsmack, and System of a DOwn...but all of them still pay there omage to Black Sabbath. The first true fighting game was the Original Street Fighter, since then there have been countless rehashes and technically more advanced games but u can really say that they all owe there omage to Street FIghter, yes??

First of all, the simple fact that MK evolved from 2d to 3d gives us reason to compare 3d to 2d, not to mention the fact that both 2d fighters and 3d fighters are in the "Fighting Game" genre (another reason we can compare them).

And as for Street Fighter 2 - without it's popularity as a breakthrough title, there may not have been many more 2d fighters, and the genre may have died out, not leaving enough interest to pursue 3d fighters...

(News flash about DOA...I was a fan BEFORE Xbox even existed (as were many others), owning the Saturn version as well as BOTH Dreamcast versions)

no u really cant compare 2D to 3D...for example its like comparing football to rugby. Sure Rugby was made before football but everyone likes football now. Sure theres striking similarities but at the end of the day ehre both different...

Tohshinden is a prime example of essentially a 2D fghter rendered in polygons, with only a few elements making it actually "3D", such as side stepping...

What category would you constitute the Street Fighter EX series? It's a 3D game, but it's EASY to compare to a 2D game...

thank u for proving my point, yes there are some similarities but all in all u cant say there exactly alike...Toshinden had ONE underlying thing that no other 2D fighter had..ready???Side-stepping, yep there it is, u cant side step in SF,MK, KI, PR...u cant!

You can sidestep in King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and several other 2D fighters....

I never stated that they were EXACTLY alike. I'm just stating that you can make comparisons between 2D and 3D fighters, much like you can compare weapons-based vs. hand-to-hand fighters...

i believe you can compare 2d fighters to 3d fighters becuase they both share the element of beating the crap out of each other...and ya you could side step in some of those 2d fighting games.
