The problem is that people of both political parties are so egocentric in their views, they create an atmosphere of partisanship that clouds credible issues and allows then to propose slipery slopes and other falacious arguments instead debating the issues along logical and praticable lines of respect and honesty.

Exactly. Which is probably one of the main reasons politics are so corrupt nowadays. If individuals ran for political positions rather than parties, people would have to trust in the person themself, the person with the power, rather than the intricacies of political scandals and other bullshit.
