My mom had a stage 1 breast cancer lump removed about a month ago, and she's currently undergoing chemotherapy. I know the clinical side-effects to expect in the days ahead, but that still isn't enough to keep me from worrying. I just want to know if anybody here has ever been in this position, and if they would be kind enough to share their experience with me. I'm not looking for sympathy - just information on what to expect. Thanks.
Yup. My uncle Frank had it. He died a while back. In the end he was very sick and hardly recognizable. But by the time he knew he had it it was already too late. I wish your mom all the best and hope she's ok. If they caught it in time than she stand a great chance of being just fine. Keep hope. Cancer SuckS!

My mom had cancer about 10 or 12 years ago. I was very young at the time, and didn't realize she could have been in serious danger. Fortunately it was detected early, and she was fine after treatment. I hope your mom's cancer was detected early enough to avoid any danger.
My mother had was diagnosed with Melanoma (Skin cancer) two summers ago. Luckily they got it in the early stages, or else she would'nt be here now
My Grandma had breast cancer, and also skin cancer.
And also my Aunt had skin cancer.

yes my 14 year-old cousin was recently diagnosed with cancer. Shes going through Chemotherapy right now. It started off as a tumor. She was in alot of pain, and with liquid going into her lungs and the doctors having to pump it out. I dont like her dad very much, one night before they found out it was cancer, she was crying all night that she felt some hard pain and stuff and he didnt take her to the hospital till the next day. Anyways, shes really freaked out, specially now that her hair started to fall off. I hope she gets well.

My uncle Ed (grandmother's brother-in-law), died of cancer just over 2 years ago. But he did manage to live a good long life into his 70's.

Yes, my mother had exactly what yours has - she was diagnosed with breast cancer in '02. She underwent chemo for about 6months (I think), her hair fell out (during the chemo, its grows back quickly), she had to have a breast removed, and she still goes back for checkups every couple of months - in case the cancer spread before the treatment. It is not fun, especialy for her, very demoralising. BUT she has made a full recovery, no traces now, even though she still shes the Doc for the checkups. Another downside (especially if u live in the US) is the medical bills, the pills she had to take, damn, some of em cost $20 (10-15 US) A PILL! Luckily Canada had good health care, I dont know much about it in the US, all I know is eveyone complains about it! So be concerned, but hopefully everything will turn out ok for her, just like my mum! Good luck to her...
-My grandfather (from my Dad's side) and my grandmother (from my mum's side) both died of different forms of cancer, I'm not too pleased about the number of my relatives that have had it. (But my Grandad contracted skin cancer when he was stationed in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, in WWII)

I want to thank everybody who responded and wished my mother well. I apologize if this thread brought back painful memories. buterbals, I hope your cousin can pull through. And krs66, thanks for sharing your story. Hopefully your mom's cancer won't come back. I think my mom's case is pretty light. Like I said, her lump was stage 1 (on a 0-4 scale, 4 being worst) and her lymph nodes were clear. She's on a fairly light regimen of chemo - for now, anyway - and her hair is gonna go in about a week. But now I feel a little better prepared to face this with her. Thanks again.

My Aunt just died last October with a breast cancer that spread all the way to the spine. Cancer is a bitch, but it is definitely a reminder of how delicate life is. Cherish it.

My aunt is currently battling cancer in her pancreas right now...
I lost my aunt due to stomach cancer back in 1996, like tom taz said, you wouldn't have been able to recognize her. She looked so weak and fragile, my grandfather had cancer aswell but luckily they detected it early on, gave him chemo and he's doing fine. Same goes for my grandmother on my father's side. My biggest fear is due to the fact that heredity increases the chances of having it yourself. I'm just afraid to pass on the way my aunt did, yeah, cancer really sucks. I wish you and your mother the best of luck.
