So by your logic if a bunch of guys beat up an old lady and it was caught by a security camera, you wouldn't put it out on the news for the sake of their reputation???

Yup.

I'd rather send it to the police. Keep the amount of people involved to a minimum and keeping the general safety of everyone intact.

Yeah that can only go so far.

Last year two guys I went to school with robbed and shot a 75 year old woman who refused to give up her purse. The ONLY way they were even caught was due to the public getting involved. Believe it or not cops can't do everything.

I tried the link, it wouldn't work for the life of me however.

It sounds terrible. Those kids can go to hell for all I care. Fucking pricks.

Keep the assailants free, I guess? Because they were all wearing masks except for one. The reason all of them became identified is because the video was able to be viewed by the public.

That video made me feel uneasy. I feel so bad for the victim.

Excuse me...? The people who upload the videos ruin the reputations of the agressors?

How about this for logic: The people who jump a helpless teenager ruined their own reputation themselves.

Which you've come to know by watching the video. Clearly my point stands as logical

I don't see how this couldn't be handled in a private manner. They have one ID. They have the location of where this took place. A victim who may have relations with some of these people. If the police can't handle this themselves I suggest a new police force.

I'm sure most people already deem this unacceptable. Seeing as how quickly the situation was handled, I'm sure the victims appearance was enough evidence for the authoriteis to act.

There are ways to help victims without jeopardizing the overall safety of the perpetrators. Which is probably the only things these videos have done.

In reality, no one cares about the perpetrators, only you and their families.

When you do something, you must be ready to face the consequences of your act.

Let me step aside from my sincerity and say the first line was pretty funny.

Certain actions have consequences, yes, but shouldn't they be dealt by the local community rather than millions?

They don't deserve to have their dignity. In fact, I hope this haunts them for the rest of their lives. After what they put that man through they deserve to have their teeth kicked in.

Lessons for people who are old enough to already know the consequences should be harsh and not slaps on the wrist. They made the beating public via the internet, so their shame in doing such should be reciprocated.

If you don't know, and do it, it's ignorance. If you know better, and do it anyway, it's stupidity. I have no sympathy for the stupid.

An attack on one citizen is an attack on all of us, it is an affront to a civil and peaceful society, it's why prosecutions have things like, "The People v.s. Roger". When someone is brutally assaulted, murdered, raped, robbed, etc. It isn't a private affair, if it was, trials would not be open to the public, the emotions of the public do not reign, but the public should know what is going on in their country.

It is in the public interest to see that crimes are punished under the law and maintain order, punish the perpetrators, help the healing process for the victim with recorvering etc.

people should know about bullying, violence and their consequences, there is ZERO reason to keep this quiet and a private local matter, a clear message needs to be sent that this conduct is not acceptable.

Could have been like that if they weren't stupid enough to record it. For every action there is a consequence.

I think it's in the public's interest to simply know what goes on in a country.
You give examples and nothing is gained. Just a hightened awareness of the problem, which ironically, hasn't helped the issue with this type of abuse but instead give rise to more instances of it. So as much as we think showing these crimes helps the problem, it really doesn't. They do a good job of blowing a situatuion out of proportion though.

Just keep it silent. The added attention does nothing to solve the problem. Imagine how smoothly this could have been taken care of. But we just need to have debate and criticize over the every crime we can grasp

I would like to know what goes on in my city, and if it's with thanks to cell phone camera's or a Flip Video, then hey, maybe I could help identify someone where others may not.

Maybe that kid in the video didn't know who was attacking him even if he saw their faces. (Hypothetically speaking) Oh, a kid just posted the video of the attacking on the internet. Hmm, well not too long ago, "so-and-so" was just talking about how he beat some kid up with a few of his friends and was proud of it. Maybe, what he was talking about was that attack that I just saw not too long ago.

Sure, the police should see this too, but at times they can be the most helpless pieces of shit ever. I remember calling them a few years back claiming that there were a bunch of kids fighting in the middle of the street. I called saying that they're fighting, some of them are reaching behind them as if they're pulling out a weapon, please come, there's a bunch of them and they're being destructive around them as well.

Ten minutes later the police finally shows up and the kids were gone by then. So, no, I agree with those saying that showing things like this to the public is a good thing. Plus, as I stated before, I would like to know what goes on in my city. If there's random fights going on, I would certainly hope that someone comes forward and tries to help prevent these attacks again by trying to help out in any way they can.

I'm misunderstanding your point, totheark.

So the steps you would prefer are:

1) Get out camera
2) Call friends
3) Beat up Asian dude
4) Make sure video doesn't get posted on internet
5) Go home
6) Sleep
7) Eat breakfast
8) ...Turn self into police?

This doesn't make sense to me. However the video got out, it was clearly for the best. You can't possibly feel so badly for the people doing the beating that you hope they don't face any consequences.

If the video had not been leaked, that would be the case. They would live their lives, and the Asain guy would live on, in fear. When something isn't done about a negative action, it sends the message that it's OK.

After watching the video, I don't think it's OK.

Are you able to explain your ideal outcome to me? I'm just not understanding...

Woah. I know my points began to drift throughout the post into broader subjects but I didn't think they'd be that confusing.

Basically, my main complaint is the fact that most people want to help this kid. But they're doing it in the wrong way. Instead of sending the video to the authorities, they just keep re-uploading the crime on YouTube. That doesn't help. The only thing you are doing is ruining the reputation of these assailants, whether they deserve it or not, is not what your goal is.

My posts then spread across a more broader subject.

I've been jumped by redneck boys in small town Nebraska, and Ive been assaulted by Detroit Gangbangers.

However I am a former prison guard, and a generally tough SOB though I do not look like it.

Both times I whupped the shit out of the people that attacked me. It's amazing how fast a group will leave a buddy to hang as soon as you break the bone in somebodies arm and shove the splinted end through there skin.

Re-uploading it raises awareness. The "keep quiet" attitude is what practically promotes this shit. They should be made examples of, they should have everyone and anyone become aware of this act, and if word spreads about what can happen when bullies get caught online, then it might actually make them think twice before dong this again, as the internet may just gang up on them, just as they ganged up on this kid.

If you dish it out, be prepared to take it.

I get your (totheark) point: assailants here get attention that assailants somewhere else would not get. Is it excessive? To me, it's not. Cases are never exactly advertised, they are just informed. Now, in this special case they filmed the whole situation, so that's different. Nobody's advertising this one either, only informing and discussing of it, that's not a sin.
In a perfect world, these things don't go to YouTube, that's true. But more importantly; in a perfect world, these things don't happen in the first place.

Exactly, they're only "tough" in numbers. People seem to think it's ok, too.
I've heard guys talking about getting jumped, and their friends say "We can go back with a car load of guys..." sometimes 2 cars full is mentioned. Cowards.
