No offense to remake fans here, but Hollywood is really starting to piss me off with their remakes! They keep on remaking good, successful asian horror flicks that deserve to be left alone!
Let's see....they remade Ringu already, and now they are remaking Ju-On(Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar...WTF?!?),Dark Water, and THE EYE!!!The Eye was a Hong Kong horror flick released in 2002, and the sequel was just released in March 2004.I think Hollywood should just "bring" The Eye over here, the original with subtitles, like Tarantino did with Jet Li's Hero.Or dub it or w/e as long as it's the original.Tom Cruise is (post-production) a executive producer to this film. He's gonna ruin it.I am so pissed off when Ringu was made into The Ring(even though I ended up loving The Ring). And the Ju-On remake already pissed me off, and now The Eye?The Eye is my second favorite movie of all time and I tell ya I don't like many Hong Kong horror flicks! If the remake is confirmed, I'm going to scream my head off.Or at least if they are remaking them, they should wait till 2007 or something, give the original at least 5 years of space. Then I probably won't be as pissed off as I am right now.
furious furious furious furious
At least the Ju-On remake has some of the same crew...

The Eye is great.

Never seen the japanese version of The Grudge but the american version looks good.

And I'll give it a chance because The Ringu is 10x worse than the American version of The Ring.

The Ring was awesome.

Yeah, I agree.

I don't think Hollywood should re-make these succesful foreign films, why not just bring them here?

As much as we like foreign products, America doesn't get too much foreign entertainment, I'd like to see more foreign films and music on the mainstream market. Bollywood is pretty damned good. From what I have seen of it, their style reminds me of the passion that used to be typical in Hollywood filmmaking.

Personally, I'd like to see Hollywood either re-born, or a new movie center in the U.S. come about, because right now are film business is pretty damned stagnant IMO.

I'd like to see more promotion of independant film directors who have a lot of great ideas/potential and are struggling to get their foot in the industry, as opposed to clogging the theaters with unoriginal ideas and movies that were already made once before...

I agree totally! I don't like what Hollywood's doing with classic Asian Horror flicks. The Ring was not Rungu at all!

I did hear that Tom Cruise is going to produce The Eye remake, it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Even if The Grudge (Ju-On) does have some of the same crew on it, it doesn't mean that the acting will be on the level Ju-On was on.

The Ring wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either. I wouldn't mind them remaking the movies so much if they were good, but so far Hollywood hasn't even done a good job on remaking their own movies let alone ones from outher countries.

And I hate it when people call the japanese version of Ring, "Ringu" it says "Ring" on the freakin' Japanese DVD box. Oddly enough the official english subbed version does call it "Ringu," but that's still no excuse.

I never understood why the Japanese film was called Ringu in the first place. There is a Japanese word for ring (wa), and the only use of "ringu" that I have ever heard of in Japanese is to describe a boxing ring.

'wa' is ring? man my japanese must be rusty...

but i think the type of ring you're talking about would refer to a ring that one would wear around ones finger... whereas 'ringu' would be associated with a boxing ring: something that contains something, and since that one freaky bitch fell in a well, she'd be technically within the ring.

... a boxing ring isn't a ring anyways! silly americans, messing up our words

I hated the fucking "Ring"! That movie had so much hype and when it came out "I" was totally disappointed, it wasn't scary and it was too long. The only agreeable thing about the movie was the story. This is "MY" opinion though so please don't get upset about it.

I prefered "The Ring" over "Ringu", but I did think some parts of "Ringu" were creepier (like when they find and later translate the voices on the video).

As for "The Grudge", using the same director is a VERY smart move.

Hmmmmmmm... with the same director being used and it being filmed in Japan, I kinda feel better about it's chances of being "decent". I'm not ready to go as far to think it'll be good yet.

Ju-On might be a great remake, who knows?I just don't like Hollywood taking someone else's idea, even if they credit them.Good movies like The Eye deserve to be left alone.IMO

I agree totally with you. It pisses me off too. Instead of re-doing the films, why can't they just subtitle them? Are Americans so lazy that they can't read while watching a movie? I mean, come on now. The movie Shogun (one of my favorites) was never redone. It was subtitled. It's such a waste to completely re-make a movie. Subbing requres less time and money, and you don't get the fake feel to the movie.

Or they can dub the movie and such, as long as it is the original.

Well I see your point, where's the originality? But Ringu sucks and The Ring rocked, so sometimes remakes can be for the better.

I bet anything that if you saw Ringu(I assume you saw The Ring first, correct me if I'm incorrect) before you saw The Ring, you would probably like Ringu better. And Ring Virus(Korean remake of Ringu) sucked!!IMO

Where did you hear this? Cause if it's true, then I wanna go after the producers with a hatchet.furious Hollywood can't think up orignial concepts, so they have to borrow ones from other countries.

Very sad!
