Hope you can help me out here. Whenever I go online (at home - I'm at work now) my Norton firewall kicks in with a security alert, telling me that a program called "load.exe" is trying to access the Internet. I can't get rid of this message by saying "block" and "always use this action" therefore I cannot go online, because basically my computer freezes on me - I can't use it so long as that g.d. security alert message is on top of everything else.
My problem is this: If indeed my computer is infected, I need to know the name of the virus/worm/trojan horse so I can go to Symantec's website here at work and print out instructions on how to remove it. But to I.D. it I need to run an up-to-date virus scan. But I can't update my virus signatures without going online! See the catch 22?
So I am asking is there a way to identify viruses without using a virus scan. Right now I'm just inputting "load.exe" into Symantec's search engine and reviewing the virus types it gives me. I'll check my system registry when I get home to see if it made the changes characteristic to these viruses. But if any of you have any advice, I would be extremely grateful.

Sounds like you have a Trojan Backdoor virus on your computer. Basically what it is, is a server and the server is trying to access the internet so that it can go to work on your computer. All I can tell you to do is run a virus scan and see what it picks up.

^Thanks UREIKO - that's exactly what happened. I was able to go online long enough to update my virus files and when I scanned my computer it found a trojan. I think my virus scan automatically deleted the infected file, but I'll run another scan tonight to be sure.
