You have to have one or the other to use xbox live and it only depends on what has the better upload download speed check and compare both speeds and prices.

A T1 line is the fastest... although I have been speculating on the satellite internet, but I haven't heard too much about it, so I don't know about it. But a T1 line is fastet, then DSl, then cable... cable isn't as fast as you think, trust me, I know.

It really depends.
What I would do is check Broadband Reports and see who provides the best service in your area. It's really subjective; as you can see, there are those that have better cable service than DSL service. In my case, I got so fed up with my cable company's poor service that I switched to DSL and haven't had any problems since.
Hope this helps...

I just switched to DSL because, like DArque said, cable may be good but the service blows. My DSL is nowhere as fast as my cable was (25 KB/s download compared to 150-300 KB/s on cable), but for gaming there's still no lag, and I still get under 100ms ping.

I have a question too, about Xbox Live. I'll need a router right? That is if my computer has my Cable Modem. So does it matter what kind of router I have, or can it just be any ol' one?

You dont need a router actually. I don't use one. I have my cable modem hooked up by usb to the computer and then the xbox into my NIC/ethernet port. Then I share the connection with the usb with the nic. BOOM! With routers, I don't know cuz my way is so much simplier.

T1 IS the fastest, but from what I know, it's pretty damn expensive. I use cable, and it allows me to surf the 'net pretty quickly and download stuff at great speeds.
Whenever I play Halo on XBC, the LOWEST ping I've ever had is around 90 (it normally hovers around 140), but it obviously has to do with the fact that I'm in Honduras, NOT that I use a cable-modem.

Ya think?
Either one should be fine. I prefer cable, but you'll do fine with either.

Actually, there are three advantages to using a router:
1) It acts as a kind of firewall, protecting your PC and your X-Box.
2) If your cable modem provider only allows one device connected to the modem at a time and they find you connected the X-Box and the PC directly to the cable modem at the same time, they could charge you for multiple computers or cancel your service altogether for Terms of Service violations. With a router it only looks like one device is connected to the cable modem.
3) With the router, you can have more than two devices using the cable modem. The upper limit is something like 253, which is obviously a bit much... but if anyone else in your house has a PC or console, they can use the router as well.
Hope this helps...
