Now we all know that the original star wars(epsiodes 4,5,6) would count as a trilogy if Episode 1 and 2 weren't realeased, but with our current knowledge can you still consider it a trilogy? Does saying "im talking about the OLD star wars" make it right? Old Star wars or not, Star Wars is Star Wars and its not a trilogy to me, since there was 5 movies.

If a Matrix came out 20 years from now, you can't say "the old matrixes were a trilogy". Well, you can, but what would be the point..really? There are 4 matrixes now, and whether the old matrixes were considered a trilogy or not, it cannot be called that anymore, even if you say "the old matrixes".

Think of a movie that has had 3 movies and then YEARS later they realeased a new movie. Can't call it a trilogy now right?

If there were more than three you would consider it an Anthology. But for Star Wars it's a little different. Lots of different ways go around it. The way I usually hear it is, the Original Trilogy, or the First Trilogy. Followed by the New Trilogy, or the Second trilogy. Also Sometimes called, the Suck Trilogy, and once in a while "It does not exist!".

LOL anyway.

The whole Star Wars Universe is an entity, since it is more than just the movies.

How true. BUt despite this, I still refer to 4,5,6 as the original trilogy.

Wasn't there suppose to be originally 9 episodes? With Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi being the middle three?

In sense there is suppose to be a 'trilogy' for each generation. One for Anakin (sp?), One for Luke, and one for Leia's and Han's kids.

Yep. How right you are. The next trilogy will be down the road, and Lucas said he wont be directing it. But who knows if it will actually happen.

Well Alien was a trilogy, then a legacy, now a Quadrilogy... you could have the Pre-quel Trilogy and Luke/Vader Trilogy... or something of that nature... maybe hexology, or collection.. or movie series... I mean Jason is like a Eleven-ology now... or something... freddy would be an Octology... i don't know... later

Let's keep it simple: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi are either the "Original Trilogy" or (as I refer to it) the "Holy Trilogy". The Phantom Menace, The Clone Wars, and the next one are just the "New Trilogy". If you want to group all six, don't waste your time adding the suffix 'ogy; instead the full collection is "The Star Wars Saga".
