JURASSIC PARK 4
Good ol' Moriarty over at Ain't it Cool News has gotten his hands on John Sayles second draft of the fourth installment of the JURASSIC PARK series. Here's just some of what he has to say:
I think its well-written and certainly inventive, but I also think it just might be the single most bugf*ck crazy franchise sequel Ive ever read, and Im not sure were ever going to see this thing onscreen.
I spent the entire first act of the script thinking I had it figured out. I knew where it was going. Problem was, every time I thought I had it figured out, something happened that seemed to change the entire premise of the movie.
The script starts at a Little League game somewhere in America, an idyllic scene that quickly goes bad when pterosaurs attack the kids and their parents.
.... introducing Nick Harris, an unemployed soldier of fortune. Nicks the lead in the movie. Not Alan Grant. Not Ian Malcolm. Despite all the rumors to the contrary, those characters are not back for this film.
.... which brings us to John Hammond. Its a great cameo role for Richard Attenborough, and hes said several times that he is looking forward to it.
Hammonds got a big idea: breed some new dinosaurs that cant reproduce and introduce them into the wild population. A Judas strain that will kill off the dinosaurs within one generation.
Mori goes on to describe what sounds like a cross between THE TERMINATOR, GREMLINS, and GODZILLA. Things include a trip to Isla Nublar to find the shaving cream can full of genetic material that Nedry failed to steal in the first movie, a mysterious Swiss holding company that now owns the park, a medithisthingisdisabled castle, and five super-dinos that are partially made with dog DNA for increased obedience and human DNA so they can solve problems well.

According to an interview with Sam Neill a couple of weeks ago, he is in it.
July 11, 2003 - Sam Neill is definitely returning for Jurassic Park IV, the actor told Australia's The Sunday Mail over the weekend. Neill's character, Alan Grant, survived encounters with dinosaurs in both the original Jurassic Park and in Jurassic Park III.
Neill has been hinting that he might play the paleontologist's role one more time, since the script Spielberg had developed was so interesting. Apparently, Spielberg went back to Michael Crichton's source material, using unfilmed scenes from the novel and continuing with the idea that dinosaurs had escaped to mainland Costa Rica. According to Neill, Spielberg had a "clever idea" that would allow both Grant and Jeff Goldblum's character, Ian Malcolm, to return.
And with filming a year or so away, Neill says he's getting excited about the prospect. "I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, but I think this will exceed expectations. I'm looking forward to it, actually."
There's no word yet on whether Jeff Goldblum has signed on yet. Spielberg plans to begin shooting in 2004 in California and Hawaii. Expect the film to hit theaters in 2005.

That was Isla Sorna. JP1 took place there; 2 and 3 were at Isla Nublar.
Edit: nevermind, I think I'm wrong, I don't remember...
I had a dream once that I was involved with a JP4 movie. In my dream, John Hammond was changed from a character to the original producer...or director...I dunno, coherence isn't a common element in my dreams. Anyway, in my dream I was talking to him on the phone about it, and he was trying to talk me out of it, when suddenly he got assassinated, just because discussions were occurring about creating the movie. I spent most of the rest of the movie hiding from some people that were hell-bent on stopping this movie from being created. I know, my dreams make little to no sense.

JP1: Isla Nublar (because in 3 William Macy's character thought Alan Grant's been on Isla Sorna before, but Grant said he was on Isla Nublar)
JP2: I don't remember. I'm either going to find my VHS copy or buy the DVD.
JP3: Isla Sorna aka Site B

Hopefully its good.Dinosaurs is one thing I am really into,it sounds alittle wierd so far, dont know what to think. And im 99% sure JP1 was in Isla Nublar and JP2 in Isla Sorna...anyway,on the topic of JP,what did you guys think of how they portrayed the velociraptors in JP3.I personally loved it.Always been my favorite dinosaurs, and I liked what they did with them, especially the part where one walks onto the guys back and drives the claw into his spine then snaps his neck...that was sick! They have been portraying them very well through all of them really, but very good in JP3.

This is great news, I love the JP series, been a fanatic for years. Even the shitty ones, as Dante said, are good :)
I agree with Aussie, I've read over on Cinecon.com that Sam Neil IS back in this one, and that a few hundred hotel rooms have been rented in Hawaii, and they feel this is for the cast/crew.
FALSE RUMOR On cinecon they interviewed one of the writers/directors, and he said there were some scripts out there that are FAKE..one includes dinosaurs with weapons....
Anyways, I cannot wait for this movie. This franchise had the chance to be the best of all time, and in my eyes it's close, but the shitty sequels kinda ruined public opinion. I'm in tho, bring it on, soon!

GR8!!!! I liks Sam Niell as an actor and see him back would be awesome, but the story should be improved. JP2 was a bit stale and JP3 had a "B movie" feel to it, but surprisingly I liked it.

If Steven Speilberg isn't involved with JP4 than its gonna suck like JP3 did. JP1 and 2 were awesome. part 1 being the best of course. No movie could EVER touch Jurassic park 1.

OH GOD, why???
ok JP1: the Park inaguration goes wrong...
JP2: They go back to stop poachers and money hungry scientists and zookeepers... smart raptors ok whatever...
JP3: grants tricked into going back for search and rescue dinosaurs are coming out of nowhere, the changing sex thing was the greatest plan B for that series...(great cell phone commercial, I think it was Nokia)
JP4: Grant: * Hey guys, yeah, My bad we gotta go back, I seem to have misplaced my lucky watch*
