Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
It's a big month. Skyrim has hit and has dominated many people's lives. MW3 is firing up the online scene. We're getting huge hits like Saints Row 3, Need for Speed: The Run, Rayman Origins, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Super Mario 3D Land, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and plenty more...
Doesn't matter. All those games are invalid. Why? Because the original golden game series is out this week with a brand new entry in the hallowed Zelda franchise.
I don't even own a Wii, but I'm getting the game. No other game franchise has the same sense of wonder, magic, or immersion as a Zelda game. No other series has such charm, wit, joy, and grand adventure.
Most "new" gamers don't know that though. They perhaps gave Twilight Princess a shot on Wii and thought it was okay. They didn't come from a gamer history of blowing in NES cartridges to do the epic second quest, of traversing to the Dark Realm on their SNES for the first time, of waking the Wind Fish on their monochromatic GameBoys, of pulling the Master Sword from its pedestal on the N64, of saving the world from a falling moon in the sequel, of exploring the vast expanse of blue ocean on the Gamecube... nope, they're of the Call of Duty generation that refuses to play a game without guns and thinks the Wii is only for kiddies.
Old-school gamers know differently. They know what goes into a Zelda game. They know it's something special, something intangible. It's the same sense of child-like wonder that transcends ages like a good Studio Ghibli or Pixar film.
And Skyward Sword is nearly upon us. So, let's talk about it. Let's talk about the franchise. What do you expect? What has the series meant to you?
To me, nothing was more memorable than pre-ordering Ocarina of Time for that gold cart. Waiting with bated breath as I poured through previews in every issue of Nintendo Power, buying the strategy guides if only to enjoy screenshots and artwork prior to the release. Then getting that shiny box, plugging it into my dusty system, picking up that stupid controller (with rumble pack, of course), and watching the world of Hyrule open up before me as I emerged from Kokiri Woods to the sprawling expanse of Hyrule Field as the swelling MIDI score kicked off and I knew I was in for the adventure of a lifetime.
Anyone else?

To be frank. I'm excited, more than excite. I'm going to be there at gamestop saturday night wearing my link costume.
Until then I'll be keeping busy with skyrim, but this game looks to be the finest Zelda title ever, time will tell if it surpasses my fav 3D title which is Majora's Mask, or my favorite one of all time, Link's Awakening.

I'm not a fan of most console Zelda games. I don't know why, but the animated style of this one looks so childish to me. And my friends always come at me with "oh and you didn't think Wind Waker was childish?" And I say no, I really liked the aesthetic appeal of Wind Waker. I don't automatically associate cartoon with childish. But, I definitely won't be picking up this title. I saw the opening leaked onto YouTube or IGN a while ago, and it bored me as well.

I try not to keep my expectations to high. They were too high for twilight princess, and that game was good, very good in fact, but it just couldnt hold a candle to OOT. And I think thats my problem, I keep comparing every Zelda game to OOT... and i dont think there is gonna be a jump of greatness like there was from the SNES to the N64 simply because the 3D added a new world of everything. Twilight Princess and even Wind Waker just kinda feel like more of the same... like they tried to reproduce the formula and it was Pepsi... not Coke.
Everyone who played Skyward sword says its the best zelda game to date... I try to not listen to that, cause if you hear that, realistically it leaves room for disappointment. In short: If i think it will be best game ever it wont. If i expect it to be, it just might be the best fucking game ever.
And like Garlador said... Zelda games,... no ifs or buts about it... some of them are better than others.. but they are the cream of the crop of the gaming world!

I like Zelda, but have never owned any of them with the exception of Ocarina of Time, which I have on Virtual Console and will hopefully eventually get to play and beat it, at least I hope so.
I don't have the money for Skyward Sword though, so I'll just watch playthroughs I guess, it looks cool to me as all Zelda games do.

I am excited as hell.
I *pray* the Magic Meter returns,
though I'm not holding out hope.
It's not that I like having to track another stat-
it's because I felt like TP was lacking a certain something
b/c of the absent magic meter-
no fire or ice arrows or wands, no spells, no nothing.
So I'd like to see that return, but it doesn't look like it will.
I'm sure I'll still love it.

Its on my Christmas list. At first I figured I would hold out on buying it until next summer, but the way critics have been raving about it (especially IGN's review) makes me want it bad.
The Legend of Zelda franchise, like so many other Nintendo titles, falls in the category of "shit I used to like as a kid but dont care for as an adult". I can't remember the last Zelda game I played let alone was hyped over. I know I'm supposed to herald some of these classic Nintendo mascots like they were the second coming of christ but, I just can't do it.
For what it's worth, the gameplay videos for Skyward sword I've seen rave about the game.

I dont reply to the likes of YOU, mortal!!! lol
And Mojo, I kinda know what you mean. Sometimes I feel like Nintendo flag games were just THAT cool cause they made the jump to 3D or cause i was younger... but then games like Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart and even the Super Mario for the wii show me otherwise. Nintendo still has it, its just that they dont NAIL it on every game... but they still do once in a while.

The Skyward Sword's gameplay is quite nice... But that's about it. The graphics, the storyline and the way the game is built is on the mediocre side. I seriously find Twilight Princess alot better on those parts.
After having completed the game, I must say, I am very disappointed. I won't give away any spoilers, but the storyline was very predictable and didn't really add anything new.
I've played Zelda games since the NES games as well, and I find the series going downhill which is too bad, really...

Twilight Princess is a much better game than a lot of people are willing to admit, but Skyward Sword's visual style is superior. TP fell victim to the "real is brown" rule and was one of the most graphically boring games I've ever played (but it has some fantastic dungeons). That, and Zelda has always had a predictable and boring plot, it's never been anything an eight year old couldn't come up with. I wouldn't say the series is going downhill.... I'd just say we've all grown up sine OOT (though, I personally think Twilight Princess is equal quality and Link to the Past is better)....
Since you've beaten it, how were the dungeons?

The game was also released in Europe earlier than in America, so many European players have been enjoying it the past few days.

I'm calling BS, even if you do have it imported, no way in hell you beat a Zelda game that fast. The Water Temple alone practically gives you a mental breakdown because of the giant mindfuck it is lol.

You can believe me or not, that's your choice. I don't need to prove anything to you. But then ask yourself, why should I lie about this?

Because you're a dumb troll who likes to elicit responses from other users on the internet because it brings you joy in your sad life.

Well, if this was true, then I could understand the reaction. However, it is not.
I'm nor dumb or a troll, except for the time I rolled a troll in World of Warcraft, but I'm pretty sure that is not what you meant. So no.
