They have a search engine, if you type a band in and it isn't listed, it most likely isn't metal (with the odd exception the band isn't on there, but that isn't likely unless they haven't recorded anything at all).

Not being a smartarse at all, just trying to help, you're one of the few people here I actually like. You recomended me Stormwind ages ago (atleast a year or so, back when I still had the DB s/n) from memory, their current (I think) singer can hit really ear piercing notes, pretty cool


Oh, and for the very few people here who know BTE through me, have any of you bought/downloaded their new album? It's different, a little catchier (just catchier, not less metalish), and Shawns vocals have improved alot. A few of my favourite songs off it are - "Plague", "Redeemer", "Absent", "Within" & "...Of Every Strain".

To ShadowSong: I don't find "everything" after 88 to be crap. It's just that most of it is. Everybody loves complaining about how bad their life is instead of focusing on the good times(Nirvana). Kurt Kobain was a great musician, but after he ended the Hair Metal scene, everybody thought "Hmm, he played out of tune, and sang about sad stuff...so I can TOO!!!". People who thought that, were very wrong indeed. You're NOT Kurt. Bands afterward seemed to not have any depth, and didn't bring that instant feeling of "I like this!!!". I have to try very hard to like something from nowadays, when if I listen to something from the 80/70s I can instantly feel it and say "Woah, that kicks ass". Isn't it so much easier just to admit that you like stuff from "back then", instead of try hard to like something that's "trendy".

I'm going to try to say this in small words so you can understand, because you're obviously not getting this. Nobody ever said they were gay. Nobody ever said they didn't have skill. Remember to use the small words in our future arguments. It helps. Not everybody's a computer nerd with an IQ of 500 Anyways, I figured that carnage using the term "shemales" sorta meant "gay". So, I don't know if you're speaking for him, but I'd really like to hear HIM clear up what he actually meant. "I think a few people didnt' have Van Halen in their list?"-I don't really follow that, but I know some other millions of people who do. I'm going to see them on September 24th, it's gonna be awesome.

Hey, I never thought hair metal bands were gay, I just think it's stupid that apparently the whole subgenre dress like women. I mean, it's just a gimmick. I know bands like KISS and Slipknot are more obviously known for visual gimmicks, but theirs were more distinctive, whereas apparently the hair metal bands all had the same one: dressing like chicks.

And if you were just pointing out that they're not gay, rather than that they have skill, why did you get into the whole thing about how you were just saying they have skill? Choose an argument and stick with it!

A dictionary is probably the worst place to look for a definition of "metal," because the definition is so obviously subjective. Where do you draw the line between metal and hardcore or just hard rock? Usually, a genre is defined in terms of other genres, but things get complicated, because music styles evolve. Hardcore is a good example; it started out as a faster, more aggressive form of punk, but bands like Hatebreed and Poison the Well, which are generally considered hardcore, seem to be much more in the realm of metal than of punk. Meanwhile, older hardcore bands like Sick of it All and Agnostic Front are far closer to punk.

Okay, I'll clear up what I meant. If you don't know what a shemale is, it's a man who has undergone a sex change, but still has a penis; if you've seen a few of them, you can usually tell a shemale (or, to be more politically correct, transexual) from a woman. I didn't mean to infer any sexual orientation with that, it was just a joke. If you watch the Simpsons, you know the episode where Lisa joins MENSA (the organization for smart people), which also includes Skinner, Comicbook Guy, Dr. Hibbert, Professor Frink, and Lindsey Nagel? There's a scene where the MENSA members are dressed in renneaisance attire, and are heading for a gazebo in the park; they have one reserved, but Lenny, Carl, and other bums took it. Skinner looks around for an empty one, and mentions that one has some "shemales" in it. He then brings his grievence to Chief Wiggum, who replies, "Jeez, how many gazebos do you shemales NEED?" My "shemale" comment was roughly influenced by that Simpsons line. As I believe I said earlier, "transvestite" (or cross-dresser) would be a more accurate term. I have nothing against gays, shemales, or transvestites, whatever gets you off is fine by me (as long as it doesn't involve me), but I just find it stupid to dress like that as a gimmick.

Modern day doesn't have a lot of good Metal bands.
Metallica are a bunch of fucking, crybaby, money-grubbing sellouts. Bands like Slipknot, Korn and Limp Bizkit suck like Hell.
The only good Metal or Metal-ish bands I can think of nowadays are:
-Linkin Park
-A.F.I
-Disturbed

Queens of the Stone Age, I really liked them before listening to their album Songs for the Deaf and realizing that they only have 2 good songs.

Quite possibly, the band that will always define Metal is Iron Maiden. Almost no-one comes up with such lyrics. They sing about Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Nostradamus, "Brave New World", "Lord of the Flies", "Dune", "Murders in the Rue Morgue"...they're fuckin' geniuses !

AFI is nowhere NEAR metal. They're hardcore punk.

And Disturbed and Linkin Park are horrible, definitely worse than Slipknot, and even Korn. Better than Limp Bizkit, though...

A.F.I used to be hardcore punk, but it became gothic rock/emotional rock along the way.

ya AFI is horrible in my opinion...i cant stand death metal...i cant stand all that old long hair metal stuff either...i donno why...i know a lot of people appreciate all of that stuff, and that they started it all but i just cant listening to it without getting a headache lol. I am a really big nu-metal fan with bands like: Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed etc.
