Heh, you should have seen when I didn't have a job. I could roam and mod the boards all day, all night. That just doesn't happen now, and while I can do what I can in the time I have, it just will not be much on my part. I should do more, especially with a shortage of mods, and by golly (yeah, I said "golly"), I will.

What also takes away from it is that I own webspace now, and I have to use it. I have a picture site to manage now, plus all my other projects, which require as much attention as needed to get them done quickly.

There are, right now, four mods: kryptondog, Sub-Cero, Crow, and myself. The Gods and Elder Gods don't really count as their main job is working on the site itself. kryptondog is working, Cero's on vacation, and I'm having my hands full. Sucks, yes, which is why we're looking to get other mods.

That's all I can say about that.

Great thread, Nova! What you’ve said seriously needed to be voiced.

I know Crow has been doing a lot of the moderating on the forums on his own for a long time now. He deserves major props for all the hard work he’s been putting in to keep the site in order. He’s been doing it to the point where he’s really tired and obviously needs a rest. I thank him for everything he has done. The other mods are doing a good job too and I know they’re busy.

Those ‘veterans’ amongst us should try to help the so-called ‘noobs’ amongst us. Every little bit of help from every member on the forum goes towards it being a better place. It’s too easy to be negative towards newer members. I think everyone should be there to guide others and help out as much as we can. Even as far as moderating goes, if we can just politely tell posters that they’ve posted in the wrong forum or politely let them know that their topic has been posted many times before and ask if they could change it slightly, then things can improve. We need more mods, I realise that, but our help can be beneficial not only to future mods and those that are already mods, but to other members of the site and ourselves.

Those of us who have ideas and things that could contribute to liven the forums up and help bring back the community feel should put them forward. I’ll be doing my best to help in that respect. I just hope others will too.

I won't treat them with any shred of respect until they learn not to act like fucking idiots every second they're on this site. While there are a few exceptions, this applies to the majority of these new people.

I have to admit that a lot of the time I've been taking the same stand point as Hyuga, which may not always be really acceptable, but christ, there's only so much idiocy a person can take in without feeling a need to lash out or vent once in a while.

That being said, I have to agree with what Nova mentioned. And if an expansion of the mod staff, with perhaps more available and dedicated mods on the roster (not that I'm not very appreciative of the current ones), would help fight (actually, I'd rather say initiate) the waves of nEWBS coming to the site, I think action should be taken ASAP.

Even just making a "Temporary" Mod staff, dedicated users who can take over for a while in adsence of the regular mods. Users who have the free time, and wouldn't mind lending a hand for at least a couple weeks, or even a couple months, until things are sort of back under control.

Nope.

You don't request Skulls, just as you don't request Dragon points.
That's for us to determine, not the users themselves.

The ratings are as they are assigned unless done by error of the ratee (wheelmouse accident for example) where they can be deleted or re-assigned through the work of an Elder God/Founder.

I am pretty much always logged on while at work, and it's always pretty quick for a thread to be closed when i'm logged on. So I guess the mods are logged on when i am too. So i don't really see the problem that many others see about the lack of mods and their job for this site.

When I send a PM to one of the mods I get a reply within just a few hours. I think that they do a great job.

I have also noticed there are alot of threads that are great and they do not get awarded any DP for these thoughts. Maybe it is because the lack of Mod around at the time, but i think that the points system needs some work done to it. It just is not consistent enough.

As for the new mods that are being talked about, there are quite a few people on here that would be acceptable at that job. However they may not be happy with the role because it takes a fair amount of time on the site, and they may not get to post their opinions as much as they normally would. I noticed this with Crow. He used to post quite alot, and now I only ever see him post when he closes a thread. I can only assume that is because he's too busy being moderating?

I agree with Nova, for the whole thread and Aussieninja, about the point system being kinda "underused" i had not seen anyone get dragonpoints in a good while, and skull points are like 10 times more frequent. That's sad. Though i may be kind of out of place to say this, since i myself, am new, i think more moderating, and a little site refreshment would be needed. With that said, i still have to express my respect to moderators, especially those of you that took the time to guide me around a little bit when i first registered.

I don't really know what to say, but i do agree with most of you who have already said what you said.

EDIT: Woot, i'm beggining to see dragon points again.

Ok I have been visiting this site not too long before it came out, and from then to now, the forum and its enjoyment have seemed to decline, but who's to blame? Is it the mods, admin, or the users themselves. Alot of the people we loved to talk to and see post are gone, and the forum has been flooded with tons of n00bs since. It seems that we are the ones to blame for the depreciation of the forums, the mods have seemed a little on the down side lately, but I can imagine all the work that comes along with being a mod or admin, constant PM's, putting up with all the same "How do I make a sig" threads without being a jackass. Crow is the only mod I see anymore, kryptondog is never here, I rarely see Sub-Cero anymore, Chair-Shot left, PotentSeed... well, and Mobster4Christ is the only other mod I see other than Crow, I agree that we do indeed need more mods, but with that being said, a HUGE question of trust comes into mind? Can a new mod really be trusted, not only to do alot of work, but to be as unbiased as possible? I mean think about it for example, me a blade-tsung are really close, if I was a mod and saw blade-tsung have a flame war with someone I don't care for anyways, would I be fair to both? Would a good friend like blade agree the actions I would take? Just put a new mod in that position, and see what happens, a great deal of trust would be put to test. I don't know if I can name any members here that would do the right thing, but who knows? Maybe we will find out...

I agree that Hyuga wouldn't be the best suited mod. He is known as one of the worst offenders and criticisers on this board.

I don't totally agree with what corylee has said either about friendships having an effect on judgment of posts whether for skull or dragon points. The position for a moderator is to be taken seriously and i don't think that the selected people will side with certain users and then go against others. Sure they will always have people they get along with and not get along with but i don't think that they will be a power-tripping mod and skull the people they dont like without valid reasons.

When it comes to the selection I think that the person should be a mature person. So an adult would be best choice there. I know that adults can be immature but i'm generalising here.

So someone ages 20+ and has had atleast over 500 visits, although visits doesn't contribute to too much.

Sure there may be exceptions to the age rule, in cases like TemperaryUserName being only 18. But he's known as a decent and respectable user. So the age rule shouldn't apply to those users that are ranked above warriors.

In saying that, should the new mod be atleast ranked a warrior? Not necessarily IMO, unless they are younger.

Now I may get flamed for the whole age thing by some people, but they are just my thoughts.

I do know that they were younger teens, but that's not what I am talking about. That was then, and we're talking about now.

Back then this site was not as popular as it is. And it was 100% purel Mortal Kombat. It did not have all these members to look after. And many of the topics today are dealing with serious world issues that the younger generation may not fully understand.

Maturity comes with age and life experiences. And i think that maturity is needed to deal with many issues and criticisms talked about on these discussion forums, whether they are in the general discussion forum or in any of the MK discussions.

I also did say that the age would not be an issue for some of the resepected users of this website. They are known as mature and can deal with all aspects that would be involved in being a Mod.

Now see, you could've done this via PM.

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. You had to do it in public. Sorry Jonin, but you've reneged on my advances for the last time. This boat has sailed. Even though I shall always worship you as my personal god, I'm afraid that your blatant attempts at flirting with me are futile at best. I've decided to move on and try to break up ANOTHER serious relationship. I hear Miss_Satan's significant other (ya know, the OTHER Miss_Satanwink) is a hottie glasses

LOL, j/k! Ya know I love ya and always will!!

The problem lies on so many levels. As it has already been addressed, it seems that the entire burden of moderating has been left on Crow. The mods have always been cool with me, and I still have endless respect for them. I'm understanding that the mods aren't machines and can't moderate the forum every available moment. What I can't understand is how some of them have can spend myriads of time moderating the IRC but not the boards. This isn't an attack, because there may be a reason I'm not seeing. Due to the time spent chatting and idling, it's difficult to say who is actually present and functioning. I'm in no position to pass judgement on any of the mods.

Now let's go on to the next level. The "Elite." Now keep in mind, there are two elites. The people who as a joke, self-proclaim themselves superior users. A group that I myself am a part of(and damn proud of it). The other elite, which is the oh-so-popular vets. These people aren't good or bad, it's just that everyone usually knows who they are, as they've been here for a rather long time, and have very distinctive posts. I love these guys, but the heirarchy of users among this forum can be very intimidating. This isn't anybody fault, but it would help infinitely if such users used their status to make it easier for newer users to adjust to the community.

Now finally, we have the noobs. Not the newer users, the arrogant pests that have no respect for this community. They shotgun their opinions(while reading hardly any other posts behind the topic starter), and are the on the defensive 24/7. Yet people need to understand, these guys aren't hopeless. Without mentioning names, I saw a user start a horrible flamewar in one of his first visits. I flamed him, he flamed me, I offered peace, he apologized, and I forgave and forgot. He's been a cool user ever since. Keeping the high ground can go so far, peeps. It's easier to flame than to nicely correct. If people would show a little tolerance, instead of alienating these people, the results would be so much better. But the "tough love" bullshit doesn't work. Flaming them won't whip them into shape.

And another problem is that a lot of users think it's their duty to discipline the noobs. Some of these guys haven't even been here for more than a few weeks, yet they're acting like they own the MKD section. Users can't even ask a previously stated question without getting slammed. That's fucking sad.

Anyway, the best solution is set an example. Show some tolerance. Be a fucking leader.
