Make me a mod. That shit would be hilarious.
PS - I'm boy.
PPS - I don't think we even need more mods. The idiots are still going to be here, regardless. Why don't the mods just assign some guy to watch over the MKD forum or something? That's where most of the idiots are, anyway.

Show some tolerance. Be a fucking leader.
1337...there is no 1337 none of us can be 1337 because we are all the same, we are all human. The sooner we realize that, the better off we'll be.

It's easier to flame than to nicely correct. If people would show a little tolerance, instead of alienating these people, the results would be so much better. |
I have seen this myself on few occasions. I would be talking a a user that seemed to just seemed to want to flame people and have bad temper all day, but I'd speak calmly and ask what the problem was, and we were able to work the problem out. Most of those users went on to be respectable parts of the community, though I must say, the other half got banned or left. But, things worked out much better than sinking down to their level and arguing back.

I'm going to have to agree again.
Sure at times people ask stupid or uninformed questions( as is mostly the case in the Deception forum) or ask the right questions in the wrong forums.( again, mostly the Deception forum, but this happens often in General disscussion too.)
So that's what i would call a rookie mistake. We all were new at a point, some more recently then others.
But if everytime a user makes a mistake, he gets his head virtually chopped of, we ( as in the MKO community.) are not going to get better anytime soon. This was my problem with some other communities, where i could not ask a single question without getting flamed.
When one is new, the initial feeling of a community is very important. When i first registered, the first vibes i got from this site were exellent. The Mods answered my questions, other users were friendly, and a lot of humor was present. As a result, i try my best to stay polite and friendly when posting, and PM'ing.
But if a new user's first vibes from the site are negative, flames, comment on spelling, sexual preference, ethnicity, religion, etc, he/she is not going to try and be friendly.
I don't often reply to "newb/noob" topics often, cause most of the time, by the time i see them, they are closed, and there is a little reply by Crow at the bottom that generally goes along the lines of: Stop spamming, thread closed, or Wrong forum, post this there. I am NOT critisising any mod here, but what i mean is that the original question is often followed with flames, calling the new user a noob and whatnot.
The last thing to call a user that just registered is "noob"!
Imagine the scene if a 2rd grade class was having an english lesson and one of the kids asks the teacher how to spell "governor" or "television".
How nice would it be if the teacher gave that kid detention?
Anyway, that was my opinion, you don't have to agree, just don't flame me.

I don't totally agree with what corylee has said either about friendships having an effect on judgment of posts whether for skull or dragon points. The position for a moderator is to be taken seriously and i don't think that the selected people will side with certain users and then go against others. Sure they will always have people they get along with and not get along with but i don't think that they will be a power-tripping mod and skull the people they dont like without valid reasons. When it comes to the selection I think that the person should be a mature person. So an adult would be best choice there. I know that adults can be immature but i'm generalising here. So someone ages 20+ and has had atleast over 500 visits, although visits doesn't contribute to too much. Sure there may be exceptions to the age rule, in cases like TemperaryUserName being only 18. But he's known as a decent and respectable user. So the age rule shouldn't apply to those users that are ranked above warriors. In saying that, should the new mod be atleast ranked a warrior? Not necessarily IMO, unless they are younger. Now I may get flamed for the whole age thing by some people, but they are just my thoughts. |
BTW:going back to your age idea, both of them are 20+.allthough I don't think that age or visit count should have anything to do with who gets to be a mod.
redsoul Wrote: Too many of the users we are familiar with such as vets, friends, ect have left. That was their choice. Just gotta make new friends sometimes. Alot of people move on in the real world. I agree with you whole heartedly nova but not every user is that bad. Queve has done a good job showing a few of the new members around. moderation is our big problem around here, it's not bad moderation just not enough. I laugh to myself everytime MKS posts in a pointless topic "why isn't this closed yet" and realise I'm looking at a message hours ago. |
Thanks for naming me redsoul.
Nova, I agree.
