Square Enix has confirmed that a new Final Fantasy VII game will be released next year. The game takes place after the events of Advent Children and stars Vincent Valentine as the hero. However, the type genre of the game is still unknown. From early screen shots it's open to speculation, but gives the feel of a 3D action platfromer like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry. The story pitch says that after Midgar and the worlds around it have settled down a bit, a new force appears and attacks. It's time for Vincent to play the hero. Although much is still up in the air, some confirmation may be given at the TGS later this month.

I like Final Fantasy VII and all the Final Fantasy games..(they happen to be my fav games) but I do think that FFVII is way over than it should be. IMO, I think that Final Fantasy IX is the best...(as of now). FFX and FFX-2 are awesome games as well. Iam very excited about the Final Fantasy VII:Advent Children DVD CGI movie to come out but after that why another spin off?

I love FF games just like the next person but Square needs to just keep moving foward and Iam more excited about FINAL FANTASY XII that is coming out at the beginniing of '05. I'll still get them game and play it as I have every FF game and yes even the The Spirits Within DVD.

Well, FFVII was a revolutionary title, as well as one of THE top if not the top favorite for most FFVII fans. Square Enix is just listening to the fans and trying to revive that universe. I'm looking forward to Advent Children as well as Derige of Cerberus, but I think that Sqaure Should do what the fans really want them to and re-release FFVII with an overhaul instead of just beating around the bush.

I don't like the idea of Vincent Valentine being the main hero in the new game. I think Cloud is the man and so is Barret. If they should make a spin off game, have Sephiroth as the main character. I hear he was the best member of Shinra yet we only see afew flash backs of him. What if they had a game that had him discover that he was the son of Jenova and all of that other stuff.

Vincint May Cry....in a nutshell?

If this is the case then I truely feel sorry for the up coming children who play video games for having to tolerate such inexcusible adulterated creativity.

I don't even care anymore, I used to be a hard core fan of the series but ever since FFX came out I think the franchise started sucking. It's just got too much japanese style pop music in it and doesn't even feel like final fantasy anymore. FF7, 8 and 9 were the best thing to happen to the series IMO, and ever since it's been ruined. Well FFX is not that bad, it seems like ever since Square joined with Enix, their games began to suck like it's all about money and stuff.

Madden sells millions of games every year, Linkin Park has sold millions of albums, Titanic made hundreds of millions of dollars. Doesn't change the fact they're all vomit inducingly awful.

Hmm. When YOU make millions of dollars of something, then you can feel free to cast judgment on all-of-the-above with some validity. Until then, we, the humble masses, are just raving fanatics. While my personal opinions on Titanic, Madden, and, hell, Pokemon are that they are overrated garbage, that really doesn't say much. But, in the case with Final Fantasy, I will defend the franchise. If you see how it has evolved, the ground that it broke, and the influence it has had on gaming (even MK. Some 'round here call it Konquest mode), the series at least deserves a nod of respect. Every few years, they mechanically pump out a new one with dynamic story-lines, interesting characters, revolutionary graphics and FMVs, and a gameplay scope that has probably resulted in more "sick days" for gamers than they care to admit. FFVII was the first 3D FF, at the time the greatest example of story, graphical presentation, FMVs, and the most influential FF in terms of character development and food-for-thought (death, life, science, preservation, pollution, free-will, control, government, etc.) I'm hardly saying the franchise is perfect, and I agree with statements above: I think FFVII is overrated. But that doesn't mean it's not good, or even great, but I feel other FFs are more deserving of a movie, game sequel, and game prequel. FFIX does come to mind (most UNDERrated FF ever), and even a fan like me would kill to have a remake or sequel to FFIV or VI. My gripes with SquareEnix remain (get rid of the blonde heroes!), but the ambitious projects that cost them sleep, food, and social love are ground-breaking and high-dollar to this day, and that says much, especially if you see the decline of other franchises (Mario, you used to be gaming God. Sonic? Rest in peace, blue mouse.) So, am I excited? Well, as excited as a game fan can get, I think. I'm not very keen on all the sequelizing of FF games (I prefer the open-ended ending of FFVII and FFX. They didn't NEED sequels), it's still going to have polish and ground-breaking presentation, and that's something in my book. Fatality.

I'm not saying that awful things don't make any money, but the fact is, Final Fantasy franchise wasn't ALWAYS awful. It's just too pop now, just like most Rap Music... Too pop...

ofcourse, i mean everything that is too popular gets lame in the end, think about pokemon(i know what u guys are thinking, but it's not), it used to be da shiznit for kids and now, u got yugi oh. but ff is a little differnt, since the previoud games were all kick ass, they desegrated all the hype arround ff to make a good fighting system and all, but crappy characters, most pathetic and embarrasing music ever, bullshit atmoshpere, and as subzero13, this japan flair. eventhough ff7 used be anime, u can't compare ffx and ff7. also street fighter used to have it'S trademark 2d fighting style, since they wanted to have the succes of other 3d fighint games like tekken, they went into 3d and ruined everything

In other words some things better off keeping tradition and NOT trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd, they might regret it.

I agree to disagree. This shit ends right here right now. I've done too much needless arguing on this site already.

NO MORE FINAL FANTASY GOD DAMMIT

Square/Enix needs to fucking end the damn series already or put it on hold for at least a year or two and devote some more time to other franchise that are much superior, such as Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, hell even a new Rad Racer would kick more ass than ANOTHER Final Fantasy game.

You're right, we do agree on too much.

I am almost sick to my stomach at how FF has turned out. I remember a day when I took pride carrying my fighters like Cecil and Rydia or Locke, Mog, Shadow, and Sabin across deserts, islands, water, snow. Final Fantasy use to be fun.

Then it turned revolutionary with 7. I didn't like 8 so much and not very many people did either. 9 was sort of Square's apology for their screw up with 8 haha.

But now? 10 and Gay-10. I want to know why all the heros in FF are Metrosexual! Seriously, what has happend to the rugged, grim and gloomy heros of the past that I loved playing as?

I'm sorry, but I feel stupid playing a game with a guy who wears a girl's jacket. Or how about 12? The guy wears HIP HUGGERS practically.

Saddened are my days as of late.

im sick of all the spin offs to ff7.. they need to remake final fantasy 6! or continue it.

LoganMK~ ff8 fan here!!

ff8 was a great game.. they got rid of those silly looking designed characters from ff7.. the music, fighting, story is 2nd best to ff6.

here r my top 5 fav ff..

1~ff6!!!!!!!!!!!!
2~ff8
3~ff9
4~ff X ~ y all the hate of this game??? it has a "japan" flare, because, the majority of people buying the game r from JAPAN!!! were 2nd to japan.
5~ff7 ~i mean, its a great game.. but, its the only role playing game that made me stop playing for awhile.. it had moments that dragged on for toooooooo long!! just the start of the 2nd cd put me to sleep. i was begging for my game shark. i wish i had it then, so i could have skipped fighting, until i got out of the snowy area..

I'm guessing movie/music/game critics then should have no job since they can't accurately judge how good something is because they don't make millions of dollars as well? And going on some of your reasons for why FF7 was so great: Food for thought? What's to think about? The game (like Princess Mononoke) was an environmentalist's wet dream. It's all that "save the environment" shit you learned in grade school combined with generic anime overtones. Character development? Non-existant. Everyone (and I mean everyone) got shoved off to the background simply so we could learn more of Cloud, a guy with a story so simple and idiotic they decided to try to confuse the hell out of the player. Even in FF8, despite Squall being the main focus, the others never felt like background fodder and they were always of some importance to what was happening. Not so in FF7.
I'll keep it simple...

Final Fantasy sucks.
