Big mistake.

No extra analog stick or extra shoulder buttons, ZERO backwards compatibility (aside from PSN downloads) since there's no UMD drive, and no way to protect the screen unless you buy a separate case/cover.

Other than attempting to curb piracy (which won't last long), I'm not sure what Sony is expecting to accomplish with this.

I have Portable Ops for PSP, and it's a buttpain to play with only one analog. Don't EVEN get me started on God Of War.

Eh.... not impressed. It strikes me as a dumb-down version of the PSP. I mean, it's not backwards compatible with other PSP games, you can't watch your UMD movies (for the few that bought them), it still lacks a thumbstick, it doesn't look like it'll really improve the graphics or quality of the games....

.... so is this like the DSi? A "new" system that's actually a bit dumbed down from its predecessor?

Only thing "dumbed down" with the DSi is the inability to play GBA games (and Guitar Hero DS). It has quite a few upgrades, such as the cameras, screen size, speaker output, and built-in music player.

Here's a novel idea. How about, instead of wasting money releasing a new PSP into a dodgy handheld market Sony don't have a very big foothold in, they focus their time and money on developing their failing monstrosity of a home console which fewer and fewer people seem to want because it appears to have almost half the game library at twice the cost of its competitor.

...nah. Handhelds never fail! everybody wants to play MGS on a handheld!

You mean the slim PS3?

Also, twice the cost of its competitor would be $500 (assuming you're comparing it to the $250 Wii) and PS3 isn't that much anymore. Just letting you know. An 80 GB PS3 will run you about $400.

Dunno about you, but the "look" of a console is usually not a priority when it comes to gaming for me.

The dogde mechanic was awful, especially after getting used to using the 2nd analog on GOW 1 and 2.

what a piece of shit! Sony shot themselves in the foot with this one. i guess they don't give a shit about what the people want after all. this is going to fail and they'll be out of the portable market. there's no way alot of people will buy this, unless they don't already have a PSP

Of course I care about the capabilities of a console the most, but the appearance is a factor for me. If it's too bulky and ridiculous looking it'll make me second guess if the console and the people behind it are really where I want to invest my money.

yeah, and like the 360 doesn't look like something from outerspace in it's own right! or the Wii doesn't look like a small DVD player and not a gaming system. it's not just Sony that makes odd looking machines there buddy

My only gripe about system designs is they usually aren't made for stack-ability, unlike most other television/stereo equipment. Also...

I know, I stand by my agitated exaggeration because my point was, what are they doing to actually improve the appeal of their struggling console? Changing the shape of the housing? Yaaaay. Meanwhile they're blowing money on this PSP Go garbage, which will almost certainly not be as sucessful as the company needs it to be. As a Sony fanboy it pisses me off because I wanted Sony to bury Microsoft, but now it looks like Sony are starting to loose touch with reality and become irrelevant in the gaming market.

You mean like making it more affordable? Cutting cost is the main reason they're doing it. Price has been a problem for Sony, who've been struggling to keep the system's price low, and this is also a major factor in consumer appeal.

Yes, it's still relatively expensive. Being more expensive by a smaller margin is little incentive to rush out and buy a PS3.
