You mean like making it more affordable? Cutting cost is the main reason they're doing it. Price has been a problem for Sony, who've been struggling to keep the system's price low, and this is also a major factor in consumer appeal.

Yes, it's still relatively expensive. Being more expensive by a smaller margin is little incentive to rush out and buy a PS3.

You don't even know the new price (none of us do), so how can you make such comments?

Using this zany thing called "common sense" I can deduce that it is very very very unlikely that the PS3's price will drop lower than the Xbox 360's, and it is very very very likely that it will still be considerably more expensive.

Disagreement is either pure wishful thinking or outright stupidity.

Who said anything about it being lower than the 360's price? That wasn't part of the discussion. First, you claim PS3 is "twice the price of the competitor", which it's not, now you're wandering into something else about it needing to be less than the price of the 360 (which probably won't ever happen) for it to be even competitively priced.

Realize that a lower price makes the PS3 more appealing to the general consumer. You asked about what Sony is doing to make it more appealing aside from making it smaller, and I gave you an legitimate answer.

And the insults *really* aren't necessary, btw.

I did. That was my entire point. I bemoaned the price of the supposedly new PS3 model relative to the 360. You tried to, I don't know, "prove me wrong" or something by saying that nobody knew how much the PS3 would drop, to which I responded by pointing out the obvious. It was part of the discussion since the first page.

If you have trouble understanding this, here is a revised version of my original comment in bold:

Good? I would have thought that was quite clear as it was, but you seem to have made an effort to misunderstand me.

And I saw your post before you edited it. My. That sure is a dashing shade of petty vendetta you're wearing today.

You said "twice the price of the competitor". So, you say the PS3 is twice the price of the 360? You can't be serious. You also said appeal over the 360 (generally speaking without specifics), not the 360's pricing.

There's more to appeal than pricing alone, which you brought up, then ignored (the bit about the game library). I know I'd buy a $100 SNES over a $50 Jaguar any day. My comment was in reference to the "twice the price of the competitor" comment , which I assume couldn't be the 360, hence the "who said anything about 360?" comment, but you apparently think the 360 is twice as much as PS3.

I edited my post to appear less insulting. I see you, however, are not backing down from the condescension.

I'm done debating with you.

Because you puffed up your chest so much at me, I'm going to point out your degree of clownshoesery here and then I think I'm probably finished.

Clearly I wasn't being serious. Apparently you were the only person who misunderstood this:

See how that works? I said agitated exaggeration. Because it was an exaggeration. Which was deliberate. That I myself pointed out. Deliberate exaggeration is a commonality in casual banter which serves the purpose of making your point of view clear without the need for specific figures and is usually said in jest, not to be taken literally. Understand? Great!

ShingoEX Wrote:

I shouldn't have to spell this out either. Realistically, when you have two consoles which have very much the same game library, execept one of them is not only cheaper than its competitor, but has a greater number of highly anticipated exclusive titles, that console is going to have greater appeal to the general public. Price and game library, those are the two biggest determining factors in a game consumer's choice of console, and in neither category does the PS3 hold more appeal to the larger portion of the market. So your point, if indeed you've had one, is largely moot.

And insulting somebody in writing and then deleting it after they've read it doesn't take it back. You still added your condescending tone and criticised me for the same, so edit or no edit, you're still a hypocrite. Not that I care all that much, but if you could hold a conversation like everyone else instead of being so petty then you'd not find yourself raising the ire of other participants enough for them to condescend to begin with.

Ok...2 wrongs make a right...gotcha. The fact I edited my post so I wasn't insulting (because I not only edited it, but told you I didn't mean to be insulting), yet it's still insulting to you...gotcha.

I'm not trying to be condescending. I'm not better than you, and I'm hopefully not coming off as acting like I'm better than you, because I'm not. My IM should have cleared this up. I'm only trying to make sense of what you said. I only pointed out a repeating pattern in your posts (and once again, took it back with the edit), especially after you outright admitted using a condescending tone. So now me pointing out your own self-proclaimed admission, and then taking it back, is an insult? I reall don't get that.

THIS is hypocrisy,
I apologize to the mods and the rest of the community for helping this drag on. I'll return to the PSP discussion if I post any more.

Blah blah. Get back on topic. Thanks.

PSP Go..... okay, let me see if I understand this...

1. It's smaller.
2. It has no UMD drive
3. It uses the same technology as the normal PSP
4. It still hasn't added another thumbstick
5. It costs $250 F***ING?!!

Sorry, but no. I was considering buying this new model since I have yet to buy a PSP, but that's almost a $100 price hike UP from the previous release. This isn't the PSP 2. It's a smaller normal PSP and yet it's priced the same as a full-blown console. You could honestly buy a Wii or Xbox 360 for that price (and maybe a few games too).

A new PSP could've been a good thing, but I think it's vastly overpriced. More than enough to make me stop considering it entirely.

They essentially did with the PS3 what they did with the new PSP - they cut features to cut cost....unfortunately, that cost-cutting is apparently not being passed to the consumer. What added features does it have aside from Bluetooth?

Dunno about you, but the "look" of a console is usually not a priority when it comes to gaming for me.

Of course I care about the capabilities of a console the most, but the appearance is a factor for me. If it's too bulky and ridiculous looking it'll make me second guess if the console and the people behind it are really where I want to invest my money.

yeah, and like the 360 doesn't look like something from outerspace in it's own right! or the Wii doesn't look like a small DVD player and not a gaming system. it's not just Sony that makes odd looking machines there buddy

In my opinion, the 360 does not look like something from outer space and the fact that the Wii looks like a small DVD player is charming. I know Sony isn't the only company that makes weird looking machines, the original Nintendo DS was so ugly that I wasn't sure that it was the right console for me. Luckily, it got slimmer, brighter, and more portable with a better layout for me.

360, ironically enough, almost looks like a Mac product to me.
