Microsoft finally unveiled it's next gen console, called Xbox One. The previous rumored specs turned out to be true:
-Blu-Ray drive
-500 gb hard drive
-8 gb of RAM
-8 core 64-Bit CPU
-Kinect 2.0

The system will tie into and control other living room components. Microsoft is going at Nintendo's Wii-U really hard with this. You'll be able to switch between game, internet, live tv and multi-task, all at once. You'll be able to track your fantasy spports teams while you watch live televised games. The system is persistently on and can be turned on by simple voice command. The system will have built in DVR functionality and allow you to record and share gameplay like the PS4.

The Xbox 360 controller has been refined for the Xbox One with trigger feedback and a new "precision" cross style dpad. The controller also has a carbon fiber look to it.

Not much has been shown for the system, but: Forza 5, Destiny, Assassin's Creed 4, Call of Duty Ghost's, and EA Sports games have all been confirmed for the system. Microsoft is also developing a halo tv series that is being worked on by Steven Spielberg.

Feel free to share your thoughts.

Very little if any gameplay was shown. Very little exclusives. And some exclusives are timed exclusives. No GPU information so it's looking like the Playstation has upped them in that area. Xbox One had a chance to win me over but only showed frivolous yet flashy extras. Where was the heart of this gaming console? The games?

Also
-still have to pay for online play
-cannot function without kinect
-always online with ram to cloud transfer
-activation codes mean no used games

So the war between PS4 and Xbox One continues to rage. I'm still leaning PS4 but we will see what happens between now and the release of these consoles for me to make a decision.

Appealing to the casual gamer once again. And hardly any exclusives. But of course they get CoD lol.

The price point will determine when I buy it.

Either way I'm not getting it at launch, because everyone knows that the first batch of new consoles are riddled with problems.

Oh, and the fact you have to pay a fee for playing a used game is some BS.

That's unconfirmed, but appears likely.

I'd rather they not show off a bunch of gimmicks and just stick with the gaming graphics and console mechanics.

I don't need a console to control my TV or do some other mess. I want a good gaming system.

The article I read on Gamespot was terriblely written. It stated that games needed to be installed to the systems hard drive. It said you could install them to another hard drive (ie 3rd party hard drive). For a fee. How that related to having to pay for used games is beyond me.

It seems awesome, but it's looking more like a universal entertainment system to me and not just about the games.

I don't know if I'm interested in the next generation that much. Of course I got the Wii U I because I gotta have my Mario, but for the most part I haven't been too interested in most non-Nintendo games.

If the Wii U isn't powerful enough to support the next Mortal Kombat though, I'll probably have to get another console. I don't think it'll be the Xbox One though (assuming PSN is still free and live is not and they are around the same price).

I don't give a shit about all that TV crap they showed. I still think the Kinect is stupid and they are pushing it even more now. They didn't give any info on the specs of the console and all they showed game-wise was sports games, which I personally don't care about, and CoD, which again, I don't care about.

Overall, I'm not liking most of the stuff they showed about the console and I hope they show more stuff that I do like at E3. Such as games. I like games.

What I did like though, is that they changed the D-pad on the controller. Yet they still have the stupid battery pack. C'mon. Seriously? Why?

There is no battery pack on the controller. It's built into it like the PS3 controller.

The talk about used games and mandatory game installs does worry me. I'm trying to keep an open mind though on both systems. There wasn't much shown for the PS4 either that I cared for.

They've got the TV shit out of the way now, at E3 they can focus on games.
From what I saw I was impressed.
No one can bitch about it not being blu ray or the dodgy d-pad anymore, thank god.
Absolutely no where did it say that the console can't function without Kinect, I don't know where you got that from, but even if it did it wouldn't matter as it comes with every console.
I'm glad the online all the time thing turned out not to be true.

I would like to see a good solid horror game come from them, Alan wake 2 or something completely new. And with this EA partnership a new SSX or Burnout would be awesome!

Oh, I thought it had one still. Well that's good then.

I almost forgot. They also said there is a used game fee now. So basically, you can't borrow a game from a friend unless you pay a fee first. That's fucking stupid.

If this was directed at me, I don't think I said it couldn't function without it. I just don't like it, and they are putting a lot of emphasis on it. tongue

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate though. The article I read on Gamespot is misleading IMO. In the article title - Xbox One has Preowned Fee, the opening part of the article reads:

"Microsoft today confirmed with Wired that all Xbox One game discs must be installed to the HDD to play and that while installs to other hard drives are allowed, users will need to pay an unspecified fee to do so."

This part right here, sounds to me like the Xbox One will allow you to install games to a 3rd party hard drives, like Nintendo's Wii-U does, but that you'll have to pay a fee to do so. How this translates into a used game fee is beyond me.

There is a lot of stuff that is unknown right now, so I'm waiting for clarification. Even if MS intends to charge for used games, I see the backlash being huge to the point of MS dropping it, as Sony isn't doing this and it would be a huge selling point for them.

Here is some clarification on the whole fee for used games deal: Microsoft clarifies Used game fee

"Earlier today, a Wired report claimed the Xbox One would require secondhand users pay a fee to play used games. Hryb did not deny this in his statement today, saying only that there will be no fee for those who play their games at a friend's house, provided they sign in to their profile."

The rest of the article goes on about how MS announced they plan to let gamers trade and sell digital copies of games. My guess as to the vagueness of a used game "fee" is that MS will be selling used digital games though XBL. I remember reading about a year ago how Gamestop was planning its own digital distribution for games. Maybe they got some kind of deal with MS for digital distributed games and trades though XBL. This way MS and the developers get a cut of the trade price...Just a thought at the moment. A similar feature was touted for the 360 as users being able to sell and trade user created content on the console.
[edit]: Also some more clarification form a Kotaku article: Xbox One - Used game fee.

The way it sound to me is that MS is joining the "green movement". You can bring your game to a friend's house and if they want to purchase it themselves (to play on their own account). Rather than go out and buy their own physical copy of the game. They can load your game onto their system and purchase an activation code for themselves.
It will cut down on actual physical copies of games. Imagine having a hard time finding a game like Persona 4 and just borrowing your friends copy of the game to load onto your system, and then purchasing an activation code for yourself.

Here is the proof about kinect always being on. http://m.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-will-not-function-without-kinect-attached

The point I was trying to make is that it's a lot like the iPhone and always knows what you're doing(as long as the Xbox is turned on of course). It strikes me as being strange

A new Killer Instinct game just may be the reason I need to buy this crap.

I'm still getting a Super Nintendo, though.
