Nirvana's been dead for almost 20 years. Doesn't deserve its own thread. That said the band is good but highly overrated.

Should not we expand this topic into Nirvana + Hole + Foo Fighters + Queens of the Stone Age + Nine Inch Nails + Tenacious D + Lemmy + The Prodigy + Slash + Slayer + Garbage = Nirvana & Everything Around?

The backing vocalist and drummer of Nirvana, Dave Grohl, became the mister–do–it–all in Foo Fighters and also a contributing artist for many bands like QOTSA so you could definitely hear some familiar sounds from these bands. The co-founding bass guitarist, Krist Novoselic, has been a contributing artist most notably for the newest FF album Wasting Light, a politician and the founder of two short-living bands. Cobain's spouse, Courtney Love, leads the alternative rock band Hole, for which Kurt had written music in his spare time. Andy Wallace, Grammy Award-winning music studio engineer, mixed Nevermind – though Nirvana considered his implication unsatisfactory. Cobain followed The Beatles in many ways.

Kurt Cobain was ahead of his time and in his short life he got to inspire many high-end musicians that we have today. Seattle is a melancholic place but a state that has sprung some of the top artists we have now. Heroin is your personal Hell, might not wanna try that. This is my contribution for the great grunge band, Nirvana: listen to the songs, if you like 'em – listen more and show your contribution, like their discography.

If anyone hasn't checked them out yet, do it. Great album. I'd kill to see them live.

Nirvana was good. I was obsessed when I was younger, but most importantly for me they acted as a gateway into other alternative rock/punk stuff. As far as their peers go I think Soundgarden was better.

Favourite Nirvana song. Favourite album is a toss up between Bleach and In Utero, probably more towards In Utero because I love the sounds Steve Albini got.

Is it sad that to today's college freshmen, Kurt Cobain has always been dead?

Pearl Jam is decent. I like their one song where the singer says

HIBBY JIBBY ZAM BAMM SKIDDY WOP PILLOW MADE OF CONCRETE!

And the other one that goes

WIB WOB RAGGADAGGA RAMBAM JEREMY SPOOOOOKEN!

I like Nirvana more though.

No. Why? That's like asking if we should expand a Liu Kang thread to include discussion about Bruce Lee, Dragons, fire, noodles, mullets, Gok Wan, and the colour red.

Nirvana was a good band. With a hot lead singer. Who appealed to many teenagers because he looked like them and acted out on stage in ways many teenagers wanted to act. Also he was hot. But had a creatively talented mind, which with practice made him a decent writer and a great at putting together widely appealing simple rock songs. But nobody actually cared about that because he was hot. So he got angry about it and killed himself. Then everyone argued forever and ever about whether he was murdered, and he was immortalized because he died young and was the face of a trend in music history and popular culture which lasted about five years. Then the guys who got famous playing Nirvana went and did other stuff and people cared about them because they were in Nirvana.

I think that's all the important stuff.

I like the songs Lake of Fire and Heart Shaped Box. And all the other songs that everyone else also likes.

Only most of them, but I wasn't a year old before he died, so I guess sophomore people didn't see much of him either...

I like the Meat Puppets covers they did with the band on Unplugged, but it kind of sucks for them that so many people think Cobain wrote them. I guess it was pretty good exposure for them though. I wouldn't have known about them otherwise.

I liked a few of their songs like Come As You Are & Heart Shaped Box but to me they are severely overrated.

Chris Cornell is another heavenly gift to the music industry much as Dave Grohl is. Them Crooked Vultures is one of these super bands, gotta listen to them more. Unluckily the "super bands" rarely last for a very long time.

I would probably jump to the Dave Grohl camp even though I enjoy both: it probably comes down to whom you happened to listen to first, in my case I have listened to Foo Fighters a lot especially since 2002. "Rock N' Grohl."

That was a suggestion to "secure" this thread in case Nirvana alone were not enough. They all have collaborated with an ex-Nirvana music maker. Liu Kang hasn't even worn any red in all instances for what it matters.
