Ok guys, this has got to be hands down the MOST ridiculous thing I have ever heard!...
ShingoEX Wrote: Let's say I see a Honda Civic parked in a parking lot. I can ram my fist through the windshield, tearing the skin up, and shattering most of the bones in my hand, and I can SUE Honda over it, simply because there isn't a warning on the windshield telling me not to do that... |
Sad isn't it?

Before anyone gets too enflamed, it needs to be said that the people who sued McDonald's for obesity had their cases thrown out of court. Every one of them was rejected. However, with America on a seeming health kick and Atkin's diet fanaticsm, McDonald's decided to eliminate the Super Size, because it wasn't very popular, it wasn't cost-effective for them, and because it exceeded dietary recommendations. Not because someone sued them/forced them to get rid of it.
And now, if anyone bashes America again, I am closing this thread. Every country has their flaws, but I for one am proud to be here and I actually think our President has done a good job. So don't make this a political puplit to bash other countries.

Well the person who took the order left that little part out of his explaination. Thanks for the clear up. I'm glad it was thrown out of court, as it should have been because it was ridiculous.

This reminds me of what happen around where I live a couple of years ago...Two teenagers got drunk and stole a sports car. Of course they wrecked it by ramming into another car it getting themselves and the couple in the other car killed in the process. The driver of the other car was a wealthy car dealer and the passenger his wife.
Then the mother of the boys tried to sue the car manufacturer for not making the car more theft proof. She also tried to sue the other car's driver's family stating that her boys would still be alive if he wasn't driving on that road.

I think I know more of a back story to this. Besides the dieting semi-craze these days, this guy had made a documentary/movie to prove that McDonald's food is unhealthy or something along that line.
He ate nothing but McDonalds for about a month. Not that much either. He's still working off the weight.
I don't remember much besides that.

Believe it...I guess people will try almost anything in Texas. Unless I'm mistaken, she lost both cases.

People always got to blame it on someone else, not themselves, because they think that when it's their fault, they think that admitting that it's their fault is like pulling out their teeth. I agree with this quote in MXC:
Captain Tenneal: How many of you think that fast food industries need to be sued because they serve way too fatty foods? Show of hands, now.
( everyone raises thier hand )
Tenneal: Well, you're wrong. Your gluttony is what is making you obese.
He said it right there, and that was just a voiceover of some Japanese guy named General Hayato.

God this is Hands, feet, elbows, fingers, knees and shoulders down the dumbest thing ever.

Man, that's retarded. I mean, you can get fat off of the stupid Happy Meals McDonalds has. I think this guy just put 2 & 2 together and used his size and the name of the food "Super Size" to sue them and get some money. That guy was probably 300 lbs before he even started eating there.

okay, a couple things. my mcdonalds still sells super, but only until our stock runs out.
In reference to an ealier post, two large do not equal one super. small=3 ounzes med=5 large=6 super=7 so medium+small=a little more than a super
also, mcdonalds got rid of super size to cut costs. not too many ppl order super size so its a waste of money to make super size and pay to keep all that in storage until some store needs super size cups or boxes, which isnt often.
the court case had nothing to do w/ mcdonalds getting rid of super size. its just an economics thing. now eventually all fast food will prob start printing nutritional info on all their food, if they do its to avoid any more law suits.
mcdonalds coffee cups say "caution...hot" now. this is because of a lawsuit. someone spilled coffee on themselves and sued...and won.
also, the obese case was most likely a class action lawsuit, which means it was a jury trial. so all the lawyers needed to do was make the jury feel sympathetic, which isnt hard when youve got all these fat ppl on the stand crying about how they used to be thin, then they got fat lost their friends... so stop bashing our judicial system. it was not a judges fault. if it was not a jury trial it wouldnt have even made it to court. our system has worked for over 200 years and makes some great decisions almost all the time. i can only think of one fucked up case-plessy v ferguson. oh, and the dred scott case.
so unless youve got a better system stop bashing the judicial for a couple jurists mistake.

Well as mentioned before, I only knew from what the drive thru employee told me. Like I said to MFC it seems there was a lot he left out. Your explaination is more detailed an makes more sense then what I was told on the subject. Thanks for explaining the whole story.

no problem. i was obviously kind of offended for all the ppl talking trash about our judicial branch. they usually make good decisions, and they base their decisions solely on the constitution, so its not like they actually believe in what there saying. or at least thats how it is supposed to work. every once in a while you get a judge that makes up a bullshit doctrine like seperate but equal. but thats how the world works. what can ya do?
