I was wondering, what kind of philosophy everyone uses in their daily life? Or what kind of philosophy appeals to everyone.

I myself don't have a set doctrine that I follow, hoever I do read exerpts from Lao Tze's Tao Te Ching to gain a little insight on Daoism. I like to read up of logic, more literaly Aristotelian Logic. It serves me when trying to understand certain fallacious and un-thought out posts that occasionally appear here.

It's fAllacious, not fEllacious. FAllacious means based on a fallacy; fEllacious is not, to my knowledge, a word, but seems to suggest a pole polishing.

In its simplest form, my basic philosophy is, we can't really know much of anything for certain: how we got here, why we're here, if God exists, or even if the world as we percieve it is actually the world as it is. Therefore, it's best to try to understand the world you percieve; to try to enjoy your life without pissing too many people off, and to help others out to the extent that it seems reasonable.

I live by principles set down by our forefathers. Like James Dean.

"Live fast, die young, and leave a beautiful corpse."

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today."

I do what I want because I don't care and neither does anyone else. No one will never be happy and there will never be peace, so I say take things as cynically, apathetically, selfishly, and lazily as you like because nothing you do matters.

I have several, and most of 'em have to do with love and/or relationships in general, so here are some of 'em, ya dig:

-"If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. When two people are meant to be together, it doesn't matter how much time they're apart, or how many significant others they have, they'll eventually find their way back to each other."

-"Care about what is, not what if." (In other words, live in the present, NOT the past or the future. Worry about the things you can control and not those that you have no influence over whatsoever.)

-"All women are hos." (Now, before I get into trouble over that one, lemme explain a bit: First of all, this is NOT directed at anybody in particular, or any female member of this forum....well maybe Miss_Satan, but I think ya'll would agree with me on that wink; seriously though, my friends and I say this as a way to no longer be shocked at the things the women in our life do. I guess that what it all comes down to is that, in one way or another, all women screw us over eventually. But hey, I'm pretty sure they think the same thing about us as well tongue.)

"People can be monsters, no matter how they look"
"The heart is a muscle, nothing else"
"Don't judge till you know"
"If a friend is not there for you, Fuck him/her"
"Always be there for your friends"
"Dont let others use you, or they'll get used to it"
"If the shit has gotta go down, the shit has gotta go down"
"Emotions in general are a nuisance when you need to focus"
"Help those in need, in whatever way possible"

That's my personal guideline, based on godawful experiences of gangfightings, bullying, and failed attempts to love and care for members of the opposite sex.

I believe this too. and based on what i quoted you sound like an existentialism. basically we can never understand the universe simply b/c we are part of it. well, im sure you guys are getting tired of me preaching this pov, but it makes so much more sense than following any religion, philosophy, etc.

Everything happens for a reason. Take how you got here for instance - Your grandparents, on both sides, at some point in time met - got together and each pair had one of your parents. Then they met at a certain point in time, at a certain place and got together. Then you: one of millions of sperm, somehow got to the egg first, and were then born and raised. All the events in each of your parent's life led to the creation of you. If you parents hadn't had sex at that time, in that place, you (the sperm) would never have reached the egg first and became who you are now - if your Dad had worked late that night or your Mom was too tired, you would never have existed. Another sperm would have taken your place. The actions that led up to your birth must have been in a specific order - so you could be born onto the Earth. Or maybe it's all coincedence. But I feel that every action has a consequence / reaction / purpose.

Ah, one's personal philosophy... Such a good question, and one I myself have asked! I could write a whole essay on my personal philosophy, but I'll go over just a few things...

Philosophy is a topic I have been highly interested in since I was 15/16. Mostly Eastern philosophies, such as Taoism, Zen, ect. Philosophy definately has a huge influience in my life, and I strive to cultivate them every day. My interest in philosophy began with a desire to learn more about myself and the world around me. Also, being a martial arts fan since I was a kid, eastern philosophy was already influiencing me before I was even aware of the process. I used philosophy, not only as a means of self-knowledge, but personal guidance in my life. Martial arts legend Bruce Lee also played a huge influience in my interest, and I have always applied his view that, ultimately, there is no help but self-help. This philosophy made me take charge of my own life, and apply myself to overcome my own challenges.

Over the years, I have created and live by my own philosophy. A philosophy that is not new, and has made me realize that, ultimately, many philosophers are all talking about the same thing. It's just that the complexities of words make a mess of simple truths, and limit the reality which they represent, which is boundless. Therefore, I like to live without limiting my movement to the lines and boundries man has created. As Alan Watts once said, "The course of a bird in flight pays no attention to the lines of east and west."

My philosophy is to be open, empty, and continually cultivate awareness of 'what is' as I flow from moment to moment. This is what I mean... To be open, I mean to not allow yourself to think you know it all. This is when you stop learning. Accept, and know you are ignorant. This is when learning begins. Strive to find the cause of your ignorance, so you can rid yourself of them. There is great wisdom in saying, "I do not know." This is the start of true understanding.

To gain understanding and free ourselves of our ignorances, to unlearn our conditioning, we must empty our cups so they can be filled again. This is what I mean by being empty. Always be willing to look at things from a different perspective. Let go of past conditioning so you can learn something new, maybe better. Let go of thought, the act of trying to capture a moment, so you can truely live and respond to 'what is.' Trying to see yourself in the moment is like trying to bite your own teeth, or seeing your own eyes. Simply live the moment. The moment is not fixed, it is a continually moving thing. Flow with it, and you are one. And always cultivate total awareness. To know your enviroment is to know yourself.

And one of my most favorate philosopies is that success is in the journey, not the destination. Doesn't always matter if we reach our goals. A goal is, often times, simply something to aim at and keep us on the right path. And even if we reach our goals, it is merely a new foundation to start a new journey. When you look back, the goal is great, but it's the memories of your journey that you will truely come to treasure. That is the greatest reward, knowing that you lived. Life is not a destination, it is a journey.

Mortal Kombat even teaches philosophy. "Every mortal is responsible for their own destiny." I believe this too. Don't let circumstance rule your life. As a human being, you have the power to create your own wave of change. Use it!

Everyone has a philosophy they live by, whether you are aware of it or not. If you think life's about just being lazy and doing nothing, well, that's the philosophy you live by. Not a very healthy one in my opinion, but to each his own. Some people cultivate and shape their philosophies more than others. The important thing is to apply your philosophy, don't just profess it. And don't worry about being perfect, just be human. smile But strive to actualize your full potential as a human being, and just enjoy the journey. That's my philosophy.

Thanks for the question. I enjoyed answering it. smile
