OK, people...
What is Mame32K you ask ?
Mame32K is an actual arcade emulator that allows you to play your old favorite classic arcade games on your computer.
It wont be able to play "certain" games.. but it emulates most 80s, 90s, and early 2000s games with ease.
So have you ever wanted to play King of Fighters (all), Street Fighter (all), Old MK's(MK1- UMK3), Space Invaders, Hang on , ect in your own home ? Well now you can.. for free.
Put it this way... you can basically with the touch of a button put a quarter in into the virtual slot machine, lol.
Heres a walk through on how to get it.
-- Obtain MAME 32K 0.64 (NOT 0.67)
Use google to find it.
-- Obtain Roms
Roms are the actual game itself. I cannot disclose where to find them because I dont know if Mods would allow that. Google search FTW !
-- Make "Roms" folder if it not already created for you.
-- Insert your Downloaded Roms into that folder.
-- Boot up MAME32K 0.64
-- Find the game that you have just downloaded. Double Click.
Note that there are various different versions of one type of rom. Make sure the Rom number matches up with the one found on the list.
-- Sit back.. and enjoy
Tab is the configuration button... you should be able to find everything from there.
Now here is the sweetness...
Where does the K in Mame32K come from ?
KAILLERA BABY !
Kaillera is a net client that allows you to connect to various servers to actually play online with people from around the nation, or even from around the world !
Be sure to right click, and add the rom that you have just downloaded to your "Favorites"
-- Click Button thats shaped like a heart.
Allows "Favorites" to become playable online (required)
Now the list of folders on the right side of the screen contain the folder : "Favorites". It now contains your favorites obviously.
-- Now from the File option... select Network Game.
You will be brought to a server selection menu.
Make sure that you first enter a user name before you do anything.
I play on DA ROMS server because its located in Texas which means good ping for me. And also because its very, very popular. More people play on it than any other server.
Allthough... God Weapons server is pretty popular to.
Now...
after you have your server chosen, and you are in...
You have a couple options.
-- Join Game
Play someone that has the same exact rom that you have.
-- Create Game
Name says it all. Just choose your rom
Now for the people that like KOF, Garou, SF, Capcom Cross over games.. my tag on any of the servers is
ARCADE.
same as here.
PM me if you need any help, and I'll do whatever I can to aid you.
Please note that Roms are in fact illegal due to copy right violations. They are only legal if you delete them in 24 hours, or if you own the actual Arcade Machine itself.
^ Fear not this warning... it never affects anybody in the long run
Good luck, and I look forward to playing some of you

"Links or discussion regarding where to obtain ROMs are illegal and will be deleted immediately and the parties warned. "
So yeah... you probably shouldn't discuss this sort of thing on MKO.
There is nothing the matter with this at all.
Now, if I was to disclose the location of ROMS, that would be a problem.
Seeing that I havent... there is absolutely nothing wrong. Not in legal terms anyways.
Whats your problem dude ? Is there something wrong with me trying to get the community involved with something fun ?
Just get out of here, and dont spam my thread with your wanna be mod comments.
For those of you here that actually care.. please support this thread.
I never disclosed the location of Roms.
I gave a link to an emulator that is legal.
Nothing more.
Whats the matter with you people ?
Did you not read through my post correctly or something ?
I even put the warning of "Roms". So if you guys are really that ignorant, you could have just ignored this post.
*Sigh*
Edit : I took the link to the emulator download off. Just to insure my safety so that some of you people out there dont try and get me in trouble with the mods.
Thanks alot guys. The warm community of MKO General Discussion at its finest huh ?

Alrighty, I'm just writing this little walkthrough because I'm very board right now, and I would love to make an attempt at having some of the MKO community participate in a couple new games.

some people do that, but if you want a real old school arcade experience: rebuild and gut an old arcade cabnet ( keep the joysticks and firing buttons),install an old pc (at least 300MHz P2) ,that has all the roms on it, and put it in the bottom of the cabnet, mount a 17- to 21- inch CRT behind the face plate, then connect your control panel to the PC so that each joy stick motion and press of a button represents a key or combination of keys, and wire a button to a key on the keyboard that will simulate dropping in a quarter.
Thats actually what I had in mind. A CRT monitor makes all of the difference in the world also.
You put a LCD in there.. and you can tell.. its just not old school ^_^
Thanks GrotesquetheBeast
@ People who play Kaillera:
Please post your tags as well
Thank You.
EDITED 5:45 PM CDT by DArqueBishop - You know better than this, Ryan. I'll leave your fate into Crow's hands, but showing links to ROMs is NOT tolerated.
As you can see (Zoom in on the pic.) I have all the files in the same folder as where I keep MAME, so now I just need to know how to open those Metal Slug 2 Files on MAME.
-Ryan C.
Dont exact it so that it shows separate parts of the actual file like that.
Then.. from what I see on that picture... you gotta boot mame32k.exe.
After that it will show a list of games. Find your Metal Slug 2 game, and then run it.
Tell me if that works for you.
Its not like other emulator where all you have to do is right click, and boot it with the emulator. With this... you actually have to find the game on the list. Kinda strange..but thats how it works : (.
I never really tried MAME until now, because it looks so fucking awesome. But...I am having problems. All right, so I have obtained all The Metal Slug 2 Roms. But now, how do I open them in MAME? (All the files that start with the numbers "241" are Metal Slug 2 Files.)
As you can see (Zoom in on the pic.) I have all the files in the same folder as where I keep MAME, so now I just need to know how to open those Metal Slug 2 Files on MAME.

Extract MAME32 to a directory (i.e. c:\mame32\). Then, take the zip file with the roms in it and stick it into c:\mame32\roms. You don't have to unzip the roms; MAME will index them as they are. Open MAME32, click "Available" on he left pane, then hit F5. All the roms in c:\mame32\roms should appear.
By the way, if you happen to play MK2 or 3 online, don't use random select; it'll unsync your game.
Rebuilding acrcade cabnets like that is something I would like to do but I don't have the time nor the money
oh, well. Maybe when I'm older and rich as fuck
Argh...Okay, I downloaded Mortal Kombat II: Revision L3.1, a Mortal Kombat II Version I actually SAW on the "All Games" List in MAME32 0.64. So, I put the Zipped File of Mortal Kombat II: Revision L3.1 in C:/MAME32/ROMS. I opened up MAME, I clicked "Available", and hit F5, and it searched for Games. It said "No Selection" after I searched for Games... >=(.
-Ryan C.
In that case you probably have to go to the Options menu > Directories, make sure "ROMs" is selected in the dropdown box, click "Insert" on the right, select your c:\mame32\roms directory, click OK, and trying F5 again.

I did what you told me to do, I clicked "Insert", I inserted my ROMS Directory, and I hit "F5", and still...no luck. It still said "No Selection".
-Ryan C.
Well, only two things left I can suggest:
1. Make certain mk2.zip is in c:\mame32\roms.
2. Delete the "roms" entry in your directory list.
It still isn't working, but thanks for all your help...I guess my computer is just retarded then.
-Ryan C.
1. Delete Mame32.ini and Mame32ui.ini.
2. Set the directories again.
Unfortunately, MAME32's ROM detection is pretty fickle...it doesn't always work very well. You could try selecting "All" on the left pane, and manually selecting Mortal Kombat II Revision L3.1 (or whatever it is). It might start anyway.
A couple of things I read in MAKE32's Troubleshooting guide (you may want to take a look at it yourself in the Help menu):
1. Delete Mame32.ini and Mame32ui.ini.
2. Set the directories again.

I never had those files you mentioned in the first place...?
Are you sure you aren't talking about a different version of MAME? Cause I am using MAME32 0.64. By the way, I did also try just clicking "All Games", I clicked on Mortal Kombat II: Revision L3.1, and inevitably it didn't work. And I know it's not a fucked up ROM either, because I have tried several other Games that MAME lists, and they do not work.
-Ryan C.
Well that's just bizarre...
Well, the only thing I can suggest, is clicking "All Games" on the left pane, finding Mortal Kombat II (rev L3.1) in the list, and double-clicking it. If mk2.zip is in your ROMs directory it will start.
You don't have any .ini files...?

And I did just that =/.
Thanks for all the help anyway.
Maybe I should try another version of MAME, it's not like this is the only one I can go online with anyway...
