nah it's been confirmed to be based off of the NYC metropolitan area. Here's the interview. Of course it's in Japan, but Masuda still mentions that Unova has a NYC motif and its based off of his experience in NYC.

When the games were still new, we were arguing about it on Gamefaqs boards. I always maintained it looked like New York because of my familiarity with the island layout of Liberty City in the GTAs.

However someone posted a picture of the Japanese area, which had the same island/river layout, but I still said it was NY. You get Victini in the Statue of Liberty analog.

I can see where you get the Paris idea, because of that Eiffel Tower looking tower. They're all over Japan. When I was a kid, I used to think Sailor Moon was inspired by France.


Aside from Pokemon, some parts of the Earth look similar.
Hudson Bay is shapped similar to North America/USA
The Bay of Funday is a similar shape as the Red Sea
India is shapped like the African continent.

Also, even in real life, Manhattan looks just like New York City.

ALthough I will say nothing compares to the best two Pokemon ever, double carcasses = Shedinja + Ninjask. Whenever you battle with a Shedinja, according to its pokedex info, you get sucked into the spirit realm.

Boombox? Really? We already have pokemon inspired from a bag of trash, 2 gears rotating, and a fucking ice cream cone. I don't think we need anymore useless pokemon. If they wanna go that route, we should give them some ideas such as:

A bed
A dresser
A box fan (Called Fannish)
A REGULAR HAND FAN (The evolved form of Fannish called Fanique)
Some carpet
Dirt
Coins (Make the coin from Meowth's head a pokemon, and let that mother fucker talk)
Numbers (We got letters, now make some fuckin numbers)
A computer mouse
A bike
Some more dirt

These are just some ideas we can give to the Pokemon headquarters in Japin. Happy fuckin new year.

I don't see a problem with reusing animals. Houndoom couldn't be further away from Arcanine. Politoed is nothing like Toxicroak. I'm not wishing for them to break tradition either; I think I'd be fairly disappointed if there wasn't a regional rodent and a Pikachu relative of some sort.

Yveltal is easily one of the coolest looking legendaries since Gen 2. It instantly reminded me of Lugia. Overall though I've never been a huge fan of Legendaries. Feels like cheating.

First of all, I don't have a 3DS yet, but maybe I'll get one by the realease date, oh yeah, October. Also, a Dirt Pokemon doesn't sound half bad . . .
And yes, NinjaMime is correct. Trubbish is amazing. I used one in my first playthrough ever of White and it got to like, level 70 or something before the Elite Four. Learn to love your Trubbish, you get Garboder.
Anyways, Yvetal does remind me of Lugia, but It also looks like a dark type. I'm guessing . . .

Using legendaries is far from cheating. Most of them have shitty movepools and apart from the obvious ones (Mewtwo, Arceus, Deoxys, Rayquaza, etc), their stats aren't all that much better than their counterparts.
