How do you people feel about anyone having more than one girlfriend/boyfriend? I ask because I believe prejudices toward polygamy aren't valid. And I do admit I'd like to try it out.

My idea of polygamous relationships would pretty much require all of my girlfriends to consent to the whole thing. No sneaking around. If my first ever future girlfriend didn't approve the whole thing would be off the table. Each of them would be aware of one another. And if I could have more than one girl in my life, then they of course could be with people other than me. At least I like to think that. I'm not in any relationships yet so it's too early to say how I'd truly feel. But ideally, it shouldn't bother me.

I just see no point in denying myself more than one beautiful and intelligent gal. So if I could only have one, then she'd definitely have to be the right one. And since I'm a pretty picky guy, I have no doubt that I'd end up with the girl of my dreams. One who is both beautiful and smart. I won't settle for anyone lacking either of those qualities, much less those who lack both. I apply my criteria to friends in real life too. I basically have no friends. And I do not care. Not because of unpopularity though, plenty of rather boring and unattractive people have shown an interest in me. I just ignored them.

So, polygamous relationships: Yay or nay?

Nay for me.

Personally I think if I grew to care about someone enough to want to date them long term, there'd be no room in my mind or my life to accomodate someone else. Polygamy sounds like people just wanting their cake and to eat it, and I dont think genuine relationships can grow from it if your time is invested in other people (and so is your partners). It just sounds like fuck buddies who cuddle, there's no commitment there.

Sorry if that comes across like im being judgemental to what you are interested in, it's not meant to sound like a personal attack if it does come across that way. :)

Whatever floats your boat man. Fact of the matter is we as a species aren't meant to be monogamous.

Doesn't mean I'm into that though. I'd rather keep my penis to one specified woman if I can help it.

Then what's the point of finding more than one girlfriend or wife? I always looked at Polygamy as getting something from that 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc gf/wife that your first gf/wife lacks.

I just don't see the point of having more than one relationship.

An alternative to me would be precisely friends with benefits. With completely approval from my girlfriend, and mine for her to also have fuck buddies. We wouldn't spent as much time with these people than we do with each other.

I really don't mind if people are into polygamy, but is not really my kind of thing. I'm a greedy person. I want the man all to myself.

While its not for me, I don't think there should be a stigma about it, that isnt fair.

No thanks. It really doesn't make sense to me. Isn't on woman or man good enough? Having more than one partner would be awkward. I just couldn't see it happening. I always just thought it was a mormon thing. I don't condemn it but I don't condone it either.

I'm satisfied dating one person than a variety of guys at one time. I wouldn't want to ruin what I've built with who I'm dating now. I don't find it an issue, just as long as it's in the field of cheating... Even though it's not that.

Do you have any girlfriend to start with? Your next girlfriend may just be the right one for you, one to spend time exclusively with. I haven't perceived "having fuck buddies" as polygamy - having multiple wives instead. Although, it might be polygamy as well if you really dig into the word's truest meaning. I have many friends but I just spend more time with people I like more. It doesn't have to be "either or" in my opinion.
Polygamy, in the sense of having multiple wives, is terribly punishable to me. It's one of the biggest reasons why Arabs in the Middle East wage war in the first place. Old, 50-year-old men with money garner all the young women, having up to 12 wives, and causing young men to vent their aggression to "innocent" people. "Kill this many people or join the war of our neighbor country to gain eternal happiness and 70 virgins in your afterlife." tells a rich, old polygamer to a youngman. Information from Qur'an is distorted all the time to motivate people to do crazy things.
After recent occasions this phenomenon has decreased, fortunately.
By waging a small war once in a while, your Arabic country might gain something, young men die and old, rich men with power will thrive. Corruption leads to chaos. I wish that the welfare countries would also bring some common sense to the countries of distress; not just support the current style of goverments and postpone the inevitable backwashes.
"The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything." told Einstein and it applies here.
I say "No" to polygamy but am ambiguous about having sex partners.

Your threads are legendary for their quirkiness.

I honestly don't care either way, but I believe in romantic love with one person and would never engage in it. I don't really care what people do, as long as they don't hurt anyone and they're consenting adults. I just don't like in certain societies that say it's okay for men to do it, but not women, I'm a supporter of gender equality.

Polygamy isn't for me because it would kill me to actually see somebody I care about be with somebody else. And if you say that all of these women would have to be faithful to me, but I'm allowed to mess around with all of them, then that just seems sexist to me.

Multiple sexual partners isn't a big deal to me. I could understand why other people would crave that. But multiple committed relationships just seems like a bad solution to a problem that you are not finding the root to.

I'd say there's a stigma against polygamy because it doesn't seem like the relationships are going to work out and be long term. But then again, isn't that how we feel about most relationships these days.

I'm surprised to see so many people against the idea, and I do applaud the maturity and opinions expressed here.
The idea of dating more than one gal has been on my mind more than once, especially since the last few gals I've dated weren't opposed to the ideas of group sex, or condoned my having sexual relations with other girls as long as they knew and/or viewed it. Nothing of the sort ever happened when I was with these gals, but the fact that they were okay with it as long as we were open and honest was pretty cool, and in turn, kind of made me want to have something like it happen.
Having been in love multiple times for months or years at a time, I know that it's impossible to love the same person without wanting a little change. Sometimes it's not about there being a problem in a relationship, it's just that people change with time and sometimes the same person can't accommodate who we have become.
Being in polygamous relationships means you love and trust all the people involved, including the people dating the ones that you're dating, and doesn't mean that they each are compensating for what the others don't have. Sometimes it's just impossible for a single person to fulfill every need another person has, and it can put a lot of needless strain on a relationship. Think about it, we have multiple friends who have different tastes and connect with us on different levels, so why not date people who compliment different parts of us as well?
I think the biggest problem with polygamy is that our society looks down on it and has so many bad examples of it around the world, like the one Zmoke presented where it was one man with multiple wives, or the terrible cases with incestuous polygamy sects. People have this romanticized idea of love and marriage being with only one single person despite the origins of it being dark and contradictory to the notion of love in the first place. Don't get me wrong, it's cool that people believe in a single soul mate, but when statistics show that 50% of marriages end in divorce, I think it's time to re-evaluate what love really is and if that soul mate idea still holds true.

Same opinion as I have with gay relationships, if the parties involved are happy, then I have no objections.

Or you'll be alone for your entire life. If you're unwilling to settle or make sacrifices don't expect others to do so for you. Just sayin...

As for polygamy i don't see it as plausible. Letting the person you're with fuck other people will never be a clean cut, easy situation. It will always get messy eventually. Somebody will like someone else more than that person likes them and everything will just go downhill from there. Its human nature.

I agree it's most likely a situation that will always get messy at some point, but I have no problem with polygamy. It's not for me, as I'm a bitter manipulative bitch, but I like people with completely open lifestyles and relationships. On the other hand, I don't approve of smaller societies where the man can have multiple wives that only marry him because of their sheltered lifestyle, but the women are not allowed to marry multiple men.

Polygamy is like communism. Good in theory, not so good in practise. It all depends on the persons involved, so I can only wish you good luck.

I'm not against the idea of marrying multiple people, i just think that is not for me. Still, i think i could have an open relationship in wich both of us could have sex with other people. I never had something like that so maybe it would upset me, but i think it would be okay if i knew the right person to do it with.
