I actually read today that John Baumgarner from Cyber Consequences Unit still found some serious security threads in the Sony networks. It was on some Dutch news site.
Baumgarner said that a person with some basic knowledge on internet security systems, a browser and a search engine would be able to hack Sony's network if they wanted.
Now if this is true and Sony needs to fix these new problems again PSN probably won't be back up anytime soon. And if these are in fact NEW findings Sony is being really sloppy with this.

I wouldn't call them trolls, it's the $21,000 tourny in Vegas so they can't exactly go spouting off or they'll piss off sponsors.. I didn't hear them say it, but I got up and left the room a few times while it was on.

For anyone curious its not exactly a small update. Expect it to take a while. It took around 12 minutes for me so that number may vary for you.

Its a patch so when the psn comes back up (ITS NOT UP NOW), that you are able to change your passwprd so whomever may have your log-in info cannot do it before you.

Download the patch, we are still in for a wait, but a great sign of life.

yeah, i do have to say that this update is way better than being left in the dark. While i wish the ability to play online was back now, it gives the feeling that online play will be back soon as well.

Funny thing:

After the update I wanted to play some Ladder, but accidentally started the demo. When I saw my menu blacked out my first thought was: "Fuck the firmware update fucked up my MK!"

Being from Eurogamer, I'd imagine they mean GMT. Which would be happening in a few minutes.

I just tried to sign in and it told me I needed a software update ... it's downloading now. I'll let you know what happens. I'll post a pic cause I know people are skeptical, lol

edit: as I was uploading the pic, it the ps3 said there was a connection time out error. I was able to restart it, not sure if it's going to keep doing that. the new software version was 3.6.something
