Resolution difference

Its probly a stupid question but what's the difference between for example 480i and 480p resolution

i = interlaced, meaning when the screen is drawn every other line is drawn and then the other half is drawn to get picture.

p = progressive, the entire screen image is all drawn at once.

Progressive is used by new TVs and by computer monitors new and old. interlaced is used by all old TVs.

Progressive is better, it is generally faster and displays text or vertical easier.

Great thanks a lot. Okay but when playing a game does it adjust by itself? Sometimes it is 1080 or 480
