Seth MacFarlane is gonna be the downfall of modern society
What I think is funny is that, I absolutely hate the man's comedy, I hate Family Guy and all of it's spin offs. However, I have this weird feeling that we would get along quite well, as we seem to have simliar tastes in music, movies, musical theater, and even style. But his sense of humor is just awful.

The fall of civilization began with organized religion.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
As for modern society, that fall began - and is manifested - within the music industry, when Hip-Hop went from beautiful poetry to another way of making money.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Challenge me if you dare! But you're probably just be ignored.

Only thing I really don't like about the shows are the 9/11 and abortion jokes. And the constant in-your-face Atheism. Other than that, I like 'em.

Why can't they joke about abortion? There's nothing right or wrong about it.
As well with Atheism. So it's in-your-face, so what? So many other shows have in-your-face Christianity. I don't see anybody bitching about that.
And as for 9/11, we NEED to joke about it. It's way passed our time to get over that disaster. Yeah, it was traumatic, but there's nothing we can do about it. It happened. The towers are gone. Forever. We have to move on.

I usually completely agree with this type of thought process. Like, when my friend got raped I kept making rape jokes at her expense. I even pretended to be a rapist and hid in her house with a knife. Such good times.
Or like the time my friend miscarried. I totally put tons of dead babies in all of the rooms of her house. It was so funny.
But the odd thing with Seth MacFarland is that he was actually supposed to be on one of the flights that crashed into the towers. But, he missed his flight by one minute. So weird. It must be his way with coping with it, too.

Yeah, I remember reading about him saying that. Anyway, I only said I don't like those jokes, I'm just one person and I'm not trying to force those views of mine on other people, I'm only human like everyone else. I'm just here to have fun and chat with people, so I'll shut up about this now and I'm sorry if I offended anybody with what I said earlier, I didn't know it was wrong to not like those things, so I'm sorry. I don't want people to hate me for saying stupid shit.

You completely took what I said out of context, probably deliberately.
Of all, your examples don't even touch joking, but cruel ridicule and embarrassment. You and I both know that is not what Seth MacFarlane was aiming for.
You know what I meant by what I stated. It is common knowledge that a helpful way of getting over a terrible situation is to "look back on it and laugh."
And to digress, when it comes to rape, I myself am learning to cope with my own experience with such, and one of the things I learned is to relieve myself of the ridicule that is placed upon male victims. It is hard for me, but I am slowly getting over actual rape jokes.
People facing the tragedy of 9/11 must do the same.

I already have more or less got over 9/11, although I was 12 when it happened. I guess it's just something from my father that rubbed off on me. And I really do NOT wanna be like my dad, particularly the fucked up diabetes ridden mess he is. It scares me that I could end up like him. But I still love him no matter what.
Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about what you've been through, I can't fathom how horrible it must've been. I'm starting to wish I had kept my mouth shut and not said anything at all.

We are all entitled to our opinions and beliefs.
I have no right to condemn you for your opinions or what you believe, only how you act on them.
You can express them if you wish, it is your birth right. All I ask is that you respect the boundaries between your beliefs and the beliefs of others, not saying you didn't with me.
I think I myself need to learn not to get so dumb when something I disagree with comes into play.

I know that fully well, my parents are both conservatives and my brother's a liberal. I'm basically trying to stay inbetween the two, so to speak. Oddly enough, I believe, and yet I've never been to a church service in my life, haha. And just because I'm not Pro-Choice doesn't mean I can't respect those that are. I've just had a pretty crappy life up to this point and guess I just have to develop a sense of humor about it. And I mean really crappy, I had to move back in with my folks until my brother can find a house, and my parents are now living in a senior citizen apartment thanks to a nonprofit group they had to go through because we got evicted last fall. My current living arrangements have caused my brother to dub me the "Old Bitch" because he's crazy like that. lol
I suppose it's no wonder people might view me as crazy, too.
Anyway, enough about me, back to Seth apparently being the downfall of society....Yah, as if.

You know what. I completely forgot that you were the guy who got so bent out of shape because someone said someone in the picture thread had a "pedo mustache." Or a rapist mustache or whatever. You're clearly not a New Yorker.

I got bent because I had just starting coping with my own experience with rape.
I'm so very sorry for being a victim of sexual abuse, please forgive me.
Btw, you're right, I'm clearly not a New York. And with all due respect, I wouldn't have it any other way. My home is Chicago, Illinois.

Yeah, although it wasn't clear, my point was just that it's odd how you are entitled to get bent out of shape over a "rapist mustache" comment, but people who were directly affected by 9-11 were are not entitled to the same kind of hurtful reaction when people make jokes about it. You'd think that as someone coping with a problem, that you'd be empathetic towards other people with similar distresses.
Like honestly. What the fuck kind of response: And as for your rape, we NEED to joke about it. It's way passed our time to get over that disaster. Yeah, it was traumatic, but there's nothing we can do about it. It happened. You were raped. We have to move on.
I mean. I just think it's the wrong way to go about things. I even feel nasty writing that here.
But hey. You know. If joking about rape makes you feel better, then I am happy for you. I will send you PMs of rape jokes periodically if you want.
But. For other people in the world. Joking about situations like that doesn't work as well. Again, usually I am a big advocate of "be fucking so offensive until nobody is offended anymore" but for me personally, I can't do that with 9-11.
And the easy solution is hey don't watch Family Guy. So I don't. The only reason I'm in this topic is because I thought the original poster's statements were ridiculous.

I actually told myself that, though not word for word.
I do need to get over it, I can't let it consume my life. Eventually I will be able to look back on it and laugh, maybe even joke about it, who knows? But you're right, despite your attempt at reverse psychology. There's nothing I can do to erase the past.

The rapist mustache joke was brought up around the time I began coping with my abuse, not years afterwards. If I get upset by the joke five years from now, then I've allowed my abuse to consume my life. I will not let that happen.
Those affected by 9/11 must see that as well. I know it was a fucking horrible event, but we need to get beyond it. All of us. I know it takes more time for others, but we still gotta move on. Or else we'll taint the lives lost with our misery.

The mere fact that you even posted that, even if it was only to serve your argument, makes you more monstrous than the said offensiveness of Seth MacFarlane.
Congratulations. You've truly succeeded in becoming what you condemn.
With that, I'm going to part from this discussion. No animosity towards you, btw. I have no reason to feel that way.

Hey guys. Can we make a new topic on how (Erik) will be the downfall of modern society?

I think we are gonna be alright.
How about that?
How about that?

Yeah, we'll probably all just get killed by a comet or something and the Earth will come to an end. That way no one person becomes the downfall of society, lol.
I think the Earth is set to just spontaneously explode in 2012 anyway, if the Mayans were right, and all of these people who butter their bread by scaring the shit out of gullible people are correct in their interpretations of the Mayan calendar. If that fails, global warming will kill us. If that fails, nuclear war will kill us. If that fails, an asteroid will kill us. If that fails, the sun will kill us when it expands into a red giant. If that fails, the sun will kill us when it contracts into a white dwarf. If that fails, the collision with Andromeda will kill us. If that fails, we'll all die when the universe finally cools into a barren and lifeless sea of, essentially, nothingness.
Depressing, isn't it?
Depressing, isn't it?

Eh, considering I'm at risk for Diabetes and Parkinsons and probably more due to my gene pool, that sounds more like paradise.
MTV and all so-called news channels such as Fox and CNN are the true downfall of cable network and might even hurt society a bit. But seriously Jersey Shore is the most mind dumbing show of TV and this is coming from a guy who enjoys Animation Domination, South Park, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The only time I can watch the Tim and Eric Show is when I'm high an I've been clean for three months. But I can't possibly explain why Jersey Shore has so many viewers. Maybe Americans really are stupid
