Well i was thinking about the recent events in here, where every two seconds a flamme war pops, and after some thoughts and with the help of my friend TomTaz, i have come with this thoughts:

1.-MKO is a forum. Meant for the MK fans to discuss, debate, and propose their ideology around the MK game, our artistic creations, and our life itself. The best we understand these three points the best our ideas and understanding will be.

2.-What enriches our community is the users, As part of this community, we should be conscious that the forums are made for us, and most of the mods spend a lot of hours working on them. We must understand that the mods are neither machines, nor life-less beings that are dedicated 24/7 to the forum. The time they are at MKO, they spend trying to ensure we have a better forum. We must be grateful to them. As humans they tend to lose it sometimes, maybe loosing patience with users, but it’s just human nature to have flaws. Remember they are just like you...they have bad days and are not perfect. We must be patient with them as well.

3.- As you all probably know, the popularity of the MK franchise itself has brought, and will continue to bring more users to this forum. Our duty, as members of the forum, is to welcome new users. It’s not our obligation nor in our nature to be instant friends with every single person that signs in, but we could at least make them feel at home.

4.- PLEASE REMEMBER: Our attitude towards new members will determine their future actions! The “vets”, or ppl that may have been here for a long time, are ppl that understand how the forum works, and may know a lot of people. But, sometimes, they (I use they as I’m somehow new in here) forget they were once new in the forums. If you receive a newbie with a flame or an arrogant comment, they will respond in the same way. Think about it, why would you wanna care for, and be part of a site where you get your head chewed off and humiliated for simply asking a question? So what if you think it's a dumb question? People are not born with supreme knowledge. Wouldn't it be easier to simply give an answer and move on rather then be insulting and starting a flame war? If the answer can be found in the faq, then just POLITELY suggest that they look for their answer there. What's hard about that? Give them time to learn the ropes. Nobody stays new forever, sooner or later they will adjust and then find themselves answering questions for other new members. And not all of the noobs are bad.

5.- Some try to act cool or tough but they are just trying to be accepted, let’s remember that one of the warmest feelings is that of being accepted.

6.- As for the new members: The best way to get through being labeled as “n00b” is to read the FAQ and respect others, remember not start something you won't be able to finish. You want to be respected? Then you must respect others. Take the advice given to you by the long time users of this site. They know how the site works. And, despite what you may read from time to time, many of them are very decent people who will help you if you don't make a fool of yourself or try to waste their time.

7.- We’re free to curse, joke, post our ideas freely, but what I don’t think we should do is diminish someone because any racial, intellectual, religious, political or sexual preference, it is stated in the FAQ. They are not hurting anyone, so why make nasty and hurtful comments about their personal lives? Or their backgrounds and views?

8.- If, In your opinion, a thread is stupid (Can't stress this enough): Don’t reply to it! Starting a flame war is not the best way to change a someone's opinion or to correct someone who has fallen into a flaw. That’s why we have a PM system! Flame wars and SPAM won’t make the other people stop thinking whatever they want to, or correcting his/her mistakes it will only generate more violence.

9.-Try to be kind with other peoples time and don’t spam the forum or make repetitive threads. That’s one of the main reasons many of the vets don’t post in the MK:D forum and they rather spend their time in the other forums.

10.- If you get into any trouble don’t be afraid of asking any mod. Maybe they wont answer immediately, but they will answer. If you get flamed, don’t answer back. You’ll probably get skulled or banned, the best way to solve this is to tell a mod.

11.- Respect to oneself and to diversity is what makes a community more rich and more valuable.

These are my thoughts.

Thanx as always TT

Must we really have one of these threads every month? No offenece, but i think we all pretty much know this by now. It's all well and good to make a thread such as this, and for others to come and share their opinions in it. However how many people who say "we should be more tolerant" or "if you don't like a thread, don't respond" actually practice these things? Not many.

There was recently a thread like this (probably less than a month ago) where Temp said "show some tolerance, be a fucking leader". A few people (mainly ShadowSong) thought that was great, and we took it up as out "motton" and even placed it in our sigs. I realised just the other day that i wasn't showing much tolerance at all, but it was for a good reason. After realising this i removed the (still) inspirational quote from my sig and accepted the fact that tolerating new users is one thing, but we shouldn't have to tolerate retarded dickheads, and some users just need to be put in their place. In a perfect world we wouldn't have to, but unfortunately this isn't a perfect world, and if we don't fight the "war" then this place is just going to turn to shit.

If nobody tells a newbie that their thread is pointless, useless, or not allowed, then how will they know? This is a forum, and as such we're all intitled to share our opinions (within the rules, of course), regardless of whether we agree or not.
Obviously there's no need to start a flame war, but there's nothing wrong with telling the user that the thread is unnecessary or disallowed.

It was my pleasure FrEaK. I am, as always, happy to help a friend when I can. Besides it was for a good cause. These are all important issues, that need to be looked at. With all the new info being released, it's understandable that people are excited..and as such they are posting their ideas and opinions on said new info. Which always results in repeat threads..but that's mainly due to the fact that alot of these people are posting at around the same time, so are likely unaware that 3 other people are currently starting a "Jade Thread" Or a Raiden one. When New info is released I think that this is to be expected to a certain degree. Mods can always keep who's ever post was first, and lock the others, directing people to the first one. No flaming necessary. I understand the frustration, As some good threads are beign buried as a result. However, if we act like jerks and flame each other and get skulled and possibly banned..How does this help get rid of the frustration? Does it not ADD to it?

This is very true. However, I think that point that FrEaK was getting at was: Do SOME (not all) users have to be so Rude, and sometimes, down right nasty in conveying this? Example: "This post does not belong in this forum. It belongs in General Discussion. Pleas be mindful of posting thread in the wrong forum." < Get's the message across right? As opposed to: (Only an example) What the fuck are you some kinda moron? Read where the fuck you're posting your threads! This doesn't belong here. Retard!

Why treat a noob with respect when they dont show you any? And besides, not trying to put you down or anything, nothing will change the way things are, you can make threads lke these, and people will post, and things will be better for an hour, then it'll all go back to what it was before. Just live with it, its not so bad, its only the internet, people choose whether they want to stay or leave, well thats all I havew to say about that.

People who respond to a thread with such pointless profanity and harshness (as indicated in your post) directed at another user, are most likley "n00b's" themselves, and don't know any better anyway. People like that rarely get the point, so asking them to stop is futile.

I do. I do every single day. I have to or I would have given up on my own life long ago. Without tolerance, I probably would not be alive today. Both if people were not tolerant of me, and I were not tolerant of them. The times that I have lost tolerance have lead to horrible episodes in my life that I wish I could have been smarter or more aware in. Offending or losing current or possible friends. When people were not tolerant of me, friends were once again lost, blindness to who I was set in.

Thus I live by tolerance, because I try my hardest to treat others the way I want to be treated. Sometimes, yes, it is true, you have to know when to quit. Of all of the times that I tried to tolerate certain past users of this site, and tried to make up or be friends again, I have gotten hurt several times when I did not know when to leave it alone.

It takes time and work both to make friends and to learn to tolerate others, but it is a worthy task.

Seriously, someone should code up a damn java applet where you can copy and paste someone else's 'thoughts on why MKO could change' and be able to change out random words on the fly with a push of a button-- it's the same BS we've all heard a bajillion times, only from a different mouth. It seems to be a nice way to garner up some Dragon Points when you feel you desperately need some.

Nova i can see what you're saying, and i too try to be as tolerant as i can. Recently though, i've drawn a thick line. The people on the side of this line i'm no longer tolerant of, have repeatedly posted bullshit on this site to the point of excess (which is only about a dozen or so users here, of course i won't name them). I try to help everybody else as much as i can though.

I agree with everything you said bro.

A new person should be treated with the same respect everyone else is treated with. If they ask a simple question that they didnt know, there is absolutely NO reason whatsoever to call them names, such as n00b. I sure wouldnt like it if i got called something when i'm new to a forum. That is why i would never call somebody anything disrespectful.

Everybody should be treated equally, whether your new or not.smile

~sigh~

Pertaining to the actual event, if that Tekken 5 thread was made by anyone else, it wouldn't have been an issue. But Since Siduu101 had made previous less than stellar threads, everyone jumped on him and spammed his thread.

The thing is, the dude made a worthy thread to even my surprise and that should have been fine with everyone else. If the thread is bad or whatever, I'm gonna speak on it within the condindes of that particular thread. I'm not gonna carry it on to another totaly different thread. If someone makes a superfluous thread, then he/she should get called on it, but it shouldn't carry over to another thread that is cohierent and well thought out.

People just attaked him on a personal level and that shit wasn't cool. The fact that Raining_Smoke got 45 skulls in that thread is a perfect example of how people need to calm the hell down and not take things personally and not target people just for any reason. I guess he's thinking about that after the fact now!

It's simply not bloody worth it, but I know people are going to act like world class slappasses and eventually do something similar again. Unfourtunatly people only learn by getting banned. As if warnings and basic common sense aren't enough to tell someone when not to start stuff like that.

To me the only form of tolerance on this site is ignoring a stupid thread all together, and that's it. I see no point in holding back on how I feel. If someone offends me, I let them know it; but I don't do it by simply saying things like "fuck you asshole", or posting "clever" pics taken from the internet. No, I go about it by present my views and discrediting the offender in the process. I think that by now eveyone who has been here for a while knows that I'm almost always keeping my calm and I'm very easy to talk to; but I just can't deal with idiocy. I can over look n00bish questioning about coding for links, sigs, and avis; we've all been there (even though they SHOULD read the faqs). But when someone comes here and tries to throw their weight around from day one, I'm not going to just sit and do nothing (especially with the amount of new members this site get per day).

Perhaps taking a que from members who've been here a long time is what new people should do. And maybe some should at least go the extra mile to let them know through PM how to conduct themselves on the boards so they know.

Well actually krackerjack has reason wehn affressing that this kind of threads pop out every month or less, but as i stated, if you dont like them or are fed up with them, just dont post in them, i mean i think thins kind of threads are more sontructive than having a picture war with lame Ebaums world pics. The problem is that even this is the 485624th try to make things better, and probably wont work it's good to remind new users that flamming and spamming isn't cool, it's not gonna make this site better. I agree with everything you said bro. New users need to be treated with a lot more respect than they are currently treated with by veteran members. People who are posting repetitve topics or those simply asking a question are treated disrespectfuly and flamed for their trouble rather than being told politely about other threads the Faqs or even given an answer to their question. It's a sad thing to see, unfortunately it happens.

It's not just new members though. Even the veterans are treated with disrespect in the same situations. Some people just like to target a certain few and spam their threads.

Everyone needs to be treated with the same respect as everyone else. It's a case of treating others as you want to be treated. If you want to flame, spam, or call people names etc, then go somewhere else. It's annoying having to tolerate all the bad things, but I do so and try to help out as much as I can.
