This memorandum will outline the details of my experience with "fly ribbons".

"Fly ribbons" are used to catch flies and other flying insects. It is made of rosin-rubber mineral oil (62%) and tack paper tape (38%). The container portion where the ribbon is originally located before extraction displays there are no vapors or poisons.

I have purchased 7 fly ribbons for the dual purpose of protecting my house from flies, and catching insects on it for amusement.

One fly ribbon has been hung on a nail immediately outside and left around a corner from my screen door. The screen door along with a screen window enclose my porch. This fly ribbon has accumulated, both naturally and forcefully, a variety of insects; this statement is true of other fly ribbons that have been (as stated on the fly ribbon container) used as directed by my person.

Another fly ribbon has been hung on a nail inside my screened in enclosure, approximately 4" right and 4" high of my screen door. The screen door is approximately 79" in height from the ground up.

A fly ribbon has also been hung from a thin metal pole with a loop on top I have placed into the ground near my garden. The thin metal pole with a loop on top has been placed exclusively for the purpose of hanging the aforementioned fly ribbon. This fly ribbon was hung more for amusement than the other fly ribbons. I am aware flies pollinate like bees and wasps, however I have more than enough produce to last me this season.

A fly ribbon has been placed next to my outdoor garbage can (with the lid open); it is suspended from a small tree limb.

A fly ribbon has been hung from a fence of an olive plant behind my house, manure was subsequently placed below the fly ribbon and around its immediate proximity.

A fly ribbon has been spread across approximately 2" from the top on the inside of the local dumpster.

The final fly ribbon in my possession awaits to be deployed.

Some insects I have forcefully installed onto some of the various fly ribbons include rolly pollys, army ants, lady bugs, grasshoppers, worms, and crickets. Some of the aforementioned insects put up enough of a struggle with quick placement technique, so I just held those insects longer until the goo of the fly ribbon accumulated onto the insect more. It was fun watching their legs struggle around or their bodies pumping around trying to detach themselves from the ribbon.

I periodically blew on some of the insects, a fly for example. I had been monitoring it for awhile, it made no movement, for approximately 30 seconds after I blew on it with medium to hard force, its legs moved around. Hopefully it was asleep and I woke it up, woke it up to its horrid state of affairs.

The crickets and grasshoppers provided alot of action, the worms were very entertaining. One worm managed to attain the position of being suspended into a pseudo-cocoon like structure, the worm hung from the bottom of the ribbon.

Did you mean suffrage? Insects can't vote. This thread should be closed for spreading false information about the voting rights of bugs.

Quite right. It seems Exxert was trying too hard to post something that sounded like a technically-worded, scientific analysis. Unfortunately, he seems to have confused the words "suffering" and "suffrage." The former refers to pain, torture, etc.; the latter, as Hyuga mentioned, to the right to vote.

Insects should vote, anything that breathes won't vote for Bush.

Oh yea, I forgot. That's the second problem I have with this thread. Why are you torturing innocent insects? Personally, if there are insects or spiders in my house, I usually try to catch them and throw them outside. Flies and mosquitoes are exceptions, since they're basically parasites.

What you're doing is sadistic. Actually, it reminds me of what Bush used to do to frogs when he was a child (the put firecrackers in their mouths and threw them in the air to watch them explode; that's just wrong...and so are you).

Flies and mosquitoes serve just as much a purpose in the cycle of things as the other insects u choose to let live.

Perhaps, but they're also harder to catch than most other insects, and may spread disease. Now, I don't like to interfere with the natural cycle, but to avoid West Nile or contaminated food, I'll make an exception.
