So 9/11 just passed a couple days ago.
And in my class there was a discussion on how we felt about the 9/11 victims. Of course there was the majority that said "I'm so sad for them." or "R.I.P 9/11 Victims."
Then there was me. The only one in my class that didn't really care about 9/11 victims.
I said "Well I don't care about the 9/11 victims because they weren't anybody close to me.".... I was just being completely honest I didn't mean any disrespect, but I really don't care. I mean people die every day. What made them so special that I have to feel sad for them? Because they just so happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time? Sorry but Nope, I don't feel a thing about the 9/11 victims.
Sorry if I seem kind of emotionless/cold-hearted, But i'm just being completely honest.
Do you think I'm wrong for not caring? How do you feel about the victims?
(I want to say much more.... But I just forgot what I wanted to say.)

That was a tragic day that cost the lives and grief of many people.
I wont call you heartless for not caring, but I can absolutely promise you I am glad that you are not someone I affiliate myself with daily. To not even have a little grain of sadness within you for the murder of almost 4,000 people is a sad and questionable trait. Enjoy your day.

No I don't think your wrong, you don't need to get all emotional over it
You don't need to dwell on past events like that
You should just realize how corrupt the government is though
So corrupt they went to the extreme and killed their own people just to get everyone on their dirty ass agenda
Personally I do feel for the innocent people killed and affected by it, this shouldn't have happened to them
Theres not much beyond that I can feel since there is no personal connection but 9/11 was such bullshit and I can not believe how many people have been fooled by this elaborate scheme
There are so many holes, inconsistency's,bullshit explanations, and things that make no sense yet people are fooled by it
And this fucked government continue and continue to fool people and tear peoples life and rights away
But I like to quote
"You can fool some of the people all of the time
All of the people some of the time
But you can not fool all of the people all of the time"

I can't stand people that try to use sympathy as a weapon, and I really don't care about what happened then beyond that I got a free day out of school because of it, but it was third grade which doesn't really count...
Sure, people died, and sure, some buildings fell, and they're both terrible events in and of themselves, but it doesn't impact my life enough for me to care about...

I know
I wasn't that old when this happened
I don't think I ever cared that much
Yea when innocent people die its bad, but its nothing more than a statistic now
Im not an American either, but the prejudice towards my ethnicity did effect me, though it only came from the ignorant people whos minds were clobbered with this terrorism bullshit
I sympathize with the victims for the sake of the situation, much like the victims of the Colorado shootings.
No one is obligated to feel sympathy for the death of anyone, so I don't think you're cold-hearted for not caring. I do feel, however, that we should acknowledge the tragedy itself, not that I'm all about Bin Laden and whatnot, because I really don't give a shit who was behind it. I just think we shouldn't forget that these tragedies do exist.

I'm pretty sure more than 4,000 people died that day. Not including the 9/11 tragedy.

Exactly.
People are quick and eager to acknowledge the deaths of those in a tragedy plastered in front of them. But what about the 3,000+ people that died on September 10?
Or September 9?
Or yesterday?
I'm sorry UlcaTron, but picking and choosing the people you'll pour your heart out for is even more cold-hearted than not doing it at all.

Glad someone see's it may way.
Of course it's unfortunate, but the fact that they're bringing the eleventh anniversary of 9/11/01 up is obscure. And I am good-hearted, perhaps more than you would ever think. There's a plenty of other events where thousands of people have died this year alone. Why don't Americans worry about the decedents of Katrina for instance, seeing it's more recent?
Or is this grieving and "remembering the dead" just to give a reason to make everyone hate Arabs so that USA can invade the strategically important Iran? Who knows – but this is beyond me, as is moralizing others who don't grief for people they barely even knew who died eleven years ago. What about grieving for the deceased Romans daily?

You don't have to actively feel sad to sympathize. Just remember the tragedy and why it shouldn't have happened, and you've done your part. The dead do not have to compete for your sympathy; there's enough to go around for everyone, no matter what day they died on.
I sympathize with those that are lost, but I am about to rant about a 9/11 aspect that's been bothering me the past week or so.
The line from that famous9/11 song that goes "Where were you when the world stopped turning, that September day?"
This line sort of pisses me off. Hear me out.
I am an American. I don't like our government officials, but I value the freedoms and luxuries we still have compared to other, less fortunate nations. I am, however, aware these nations EXIST, as opposed the the millions of sheltered, selfish fucks that live here.
Death happens, in the masses, every single fucking day. Genocides, wars, pestillance, murders, human events that shred apart the emotions of countless survivors each day. When America finally falls prey to one of these unfortunate events, we have the audacity to make a symbolic gesture that the world stopped turning? That the world spins just because of America's well being? Again, I state. My heart goes out to those families who lost their loved ones. I just wish Americans would stop being the pompous cunts they accuse England of being on a regular basis.

I've been called numerous names for not really caring about 9/11 when my opinion is asked. Thousands died that day, millions die everyday. Stop making something that happened to just us so important. Why isn't there a day for pearl harbor? Hurricane Katrina? The death of soldiers in iraq and iran? The earthquake in Japan? Yes its sucks that they died, but people need to get over it.

uhh... there is a day for Pearl Harbor, Katrina happened over several days, and people are still dying as a result of the conflict in the middle east. As for Japan, they probably do hold an event of remembrance... but it'd be in Japan.
also regarding Pearl Harbor, there were about 10 films about the attack, and the first stage in one of the Medal of Honor titles is set during it(There are multiple games set in the wars in the middle east too, if it wasn't obvious)

Not really millions die every day unless you take bugs, animals and Counter-Strike squads into account. The United States has never had any significant war against Iran except a couple of small operations and the supply of Iraq in the Iraq-Iran war before turning against Saddam Hussein's megalomania in the Persian Gulf War in 1990-1991 and executing Saddam during the younger George Bush's presidency in '06.

I wasn't really sad about it when it happened, rather shocked about it. That someone would do such a thing and that so many lives were lost in just a few moments. I felt sorry about the people who it affected, both those who died and their families.
Notice the above lines are written in past tense.
Death is always tragic, no matter the circumstances, even if they happen for natural causes, however, because those deaths didn't affect me personally or anyone I know, it just wasn't close enough for me to feel affected for long. The effect increases the closer it happens to oneself, and this was just too far from me for me to care about it for too long.

Wait, what?
Sorry America, I like you, I think you're grand. You've had some truly pioneering citizens and some fantastical inventions. (You've also been prey to some of the most public humiliations, like Paris Hilton, but we won't dwell on that). But every other country in the world thinks that, as a whole, the US is the country full of self-preening logic-hating cunts.
Just the messenger.
As for 9/11 (why isn't it 11/9?) I'm sad for anyone who loses loved ones, but I'm more angry about those people's deaths being paraded around like they're any more special than anyone else, by a government whose sole ambition is power and control. 1984 (my favourite book) has never been more relevant.

Preaching to the Choir man. There is no disagreement. As far as 11/9 versus 9/11, it's just the way things work here. Like pounds vs kilos, or coffee vs tea. Murika.

There is a difference between having Sympathy and having Respect.
(for the dead).
(for the dead).
Retarded conspiracy theories aside, arguing that you feel nothing for innocent people who died in a terrorist attack because they weren't YOUR personal loved ones or because people die from cancer or car accidents everyday is just really immature. Like I understand you didn't know the victims on a personal level and no one expects you to be crying into your pillow over it, but its disrespectful to just say "pfff i don't care." And that's not being "brutally honest" that's being a douchebag. Only a douchebag feels the need to tell everybody how much they don't care about something.
Politics and war aside, what happened to those people on 9/11 was horrible, pure and simple. Their time on this earth was violently and painfully cut short. None of them deserved to die like that. It was much more than people simply "being at the wrong place at the wrong time," which is a douchy thing to say by the way. We bring it up and mourn them every year because for America it has a lot of historical and national significance. 9/11 is much bigger than your little pissy, uncaring emotional response to it.
You're not heartless or 'edgy and dark' for refusing to show respect to your fellow dead countrymen, you're an immature douche nozzle. And while I don't expect you to except that and I doubt any of what I'm saying will rub off on you, try and imagine yourself in the shoes of a 9/11 victim. Or better yet, imagine a loved one being put in that position. Picture them having to make the choice between leaping from the window of a sky scraper or burning to death. Now picture some asshole, teeny bopper douche nozzle hundreds of miles away, sitting comfortably and safely at their computer and talking about how much they don't give a shit about your loved ones being murdered.
If you don't care and can't be bothered to show even the slightest bit of respect or sympathy, at the very least keep it to yourself.

I was more angry when I found out what was happening on this day when it happened. I was in the fifth grade, so I'm aware of my surroundings and know that there are evil people in the world at this age since my parents trusted me that I was capable of walking to my school by myself. I was angry because my school refused to acknowledge this incident to the students, I had to find this out by my parents. And the day we went back to school after this happened, I questioned immediately why no one bothered to tell us a single thing that was happening here.
I sympathized those that died. I don't really care what other people feel about this tragedy. People care to a point while others don't. I know that death occurs every day. There are a lot of things happening throughout the world.
Just at least don't sound like a dick when you're saying, "I don't really care." People get offended by pretty much a lot of things lately. And this is just being said in general, not to anyone in particular in this thread. Just rephrase your words so that people aren't bashing you like crazy with insults because you have your own thoughts and opinions.

I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but yeah, this was kinda what I was thinking. No American needs justification on why they feel more sadness for the 9/11 victims than, say, the Darfur victims. It's just the nature of kinship. People are going to feel more sorrow when tragedy afflicts those closer to them. It's the reason why I went to my grandfather's funeral and not YOUR grandfather's funeral.
If you stand by the position that what happened to the World Trade Center was tragic, then you care. That constitutes caring. You're not guilty of indifference. If you feel otherwise, then there's something wrong with you. And the fact that you need to TELL me that you're indifferent is itself suspicious. It makes me think your indifference is actually a guise for pretentiousness, or (even worse) aggression.

I think people's apathy commesurates to their age/ the amount they were effected by the tragedy. I was 18 years old in college, out in the world for the first time. My best friend was in NYC living in dorms near the towers, my sister was working above Penn Station. The city was chaotic, and nobody could get anyone on the phone. My sister's whereabouts were unknown all day. Classmates lost friends and family on the planes and in the towers. It was very maturing and traumatic.
For me, that day will always be synonomous for when I grew up. If it means nothing to you anymore and/or you feel apathetic and that people should "get over it", consider yourself fortunate.

I'm not saying people should "get over" the incident. I understand what happened that day was a tragedy and a lot of people lost their life. But to call me immature for not caring about people who meant nothing to me in the first place.... Wow... I'm a douchebag for not caring? Wow. You act like people NEED to care about those victims. People have the right not to care, whether you get butthurt about it or not. Sorry if I like to think ahead instead of dwelling and mourning on the past. Sorry if I like to have positive thoughts instead of thinking about depressing deaths.
Tell me. What were you doing before that clock struck 9/11? I bet you were just living your life, ignoring the fact that 9/11 was just the next day. But as soon as it 9/11 you automatically cared. Besides. This is just how I felt. Don't be butthurt because ONE person in the internet, that you met in a MORTAL KOMBAT FORUM, is saying they don't care about those victims. Good Day.

You sound like the one who's butthurt, I was just pointing out the fact that it's not as easy for most people to be apathetic because they were more personally and still are affected by the tragedy. It appears that you luckily haven't been. You're allowed to feel however you want, it's your life. Yikes....
