Tekken 4 is a great game but...

posted09/22/2004 08:14 PM (UTC)by...what the hell is that storyline all about?! I mean... I've managed to figure out that Heihachi must be the bad guy (because he's been the boss in every game so he must be really bad ass in the storyline or else they would chose a boss that's actually harder to defeat than everyone else) but the rest of the stories seem pretty generic apart from Kazuya's which I don't get because I haven't followed Tekken's story before.
Can anyone please explain what exactly is happening in Tekken storyline or is it just only a tournament like the Street Fighter games?

It's sort of just a tournament held by Heihachi, mostly for the same reasons. To gain more power by stealing the gene's of Jin, Kazuya, and Orgre or something along those lines. The first Tekken game was just a tournament i believe.
Namco really does suck at explaining things, but if the backgrounds of the Tekken characters (Angel, "Unknown", Kunimitsu, Ganryu etc etc) were explained properly, i'm pretty sure the Tekken storyline would blow the MK storyline right out of the water.
To be honest i've always liked the Tekken storyline more. It just seemed a little more realistic (i use the term loosely here), because it doesn't have reptilian creatures from other planets disguised as humans, people constantly being revived or other such farfetched occurrences. It's more based on things that actually seem plausible or likely to happen, like medical science incidents and spiritual warfare (if you believe in that sort of thing). Just a more believable mythology in general.
Try browsing Tekken Zaibatsu for more answers (though a lot of the storyline is assumed by fans).

Thanks for the link I'll check it out to see if I can get some of the storyline explained.
Actually I like MK's story more because it's less realistic and overall has more "evil feel" whereas in Tekken it's just a guy calling the shots but the videos and intros are great. Too bad the story is so messed up

Tekken 4 is an awful game. EDIT: Sorry, I should give some reasons for my opinions. The game is was too slow for my tastes, and the controls are kinda shaky. Also, I've never really liked the Tekken series. But I'd have to say, Tekken Tag was a very decent game.
Tekken does seem to have alot of stuff that could be explored into awesome storylines, like Unknown, Ogre and Kuma. But, I don't think they actually have the past they seem to have. Tecmo just thought up of some cool stuff, tossed them into the game with no real storyline and bam. Good looking characters, no plot.

There isn't nothing more fast paced than fighting Jin on ultra hard mode
I love the control of the characters of Tekken players, they move like lighting in the right hands.
STORY OF TEKKEN 1 + 2 - KAZUYA VS HEIHACHI
As for the story the first tournament was half to see if anyone could beat Heihachi and half for Heihachi to fight someone who actually had a chance of beating, his son Kazuya.
Unknown to Heihachi, Kazuya had sold his soul to the devil in order to gain power, this new power surprized Heihachi, Kazuya won, and threw Heihachi down the very cliff that he had been thrown down as a child (that's where he got the scar from on his chest)
The second tournament was Kazuya's idea, in order to rid the world of his enemies, and to prove whether Heihachi had survived or not.
Heihachi was ready for Kazuya this time, beat him, and threw Kazuya into the mouth of a volcano, Kazuya survived thanks to Devil taking control of of the Unconscious Kazuya, transformed nto the physical form of Devil and flew away.
Devil's new plan was to go after Jun Kazama, pregneant with her's and Kazuya's child, Devil was planning on making the unborn child it's new host, by possessing it, this, only being possible since the "Devil gene" was passed onto it through Kazuya.
Jun managed to defeat Devil, and Devil flew away, it's only chance of suvival now, was if Kazuya survived.
Thanks to a Bio-firm called G-Corporation, Kazuya survived, and he and G-corporation performed experiments on him, in an attempt to allow Kazuya to control the Devil form himself, the combined powers of Kazuya and Devil being the destruction of Heihachi, and anyone else.

Um, where did it ever say Kaz transformed into Devil and flew out of the volcano? From what I remember, G-Corp. found Kazuya's corpse in the volcano, rescued it, and had it in suspended animation until they could revive him (in order to take out the Mishima Zaibatsu). And the Jun/Kaz "horizontal dance" happened sometime during The King of Iron Fist 2 tournament. Basically a one night stand sort of deal. Oh well, the storyline now is just getting stupider and stupider what with Ling now wanting to win the tournament so she can use the money to fund some scientist's time travel project so she can go back to the past and "save the Mishima family".

Yeah, I thought it was a dissapointment. And I'm a big fan of the series. The backgrounds, character designs, "revamped" fighting system, and storyline were all horrible. The new characters were all shit, too (in my opinion).

That can't be right, how exactly is G-corp supposed to magically pull Kazuya out of the Volcano?
Also in the Tekken 4 prologue it shows Kazuya's body in the Volcano, then Devil-Kazuya's body in the G-corp facility.
Kazuya wouldn't have survived in a volcano without Devil.

I love the tekken series, My favorite was tekken tag because of the huge amount of characters. Tekken 4 was alright. The storylines do need to be explained a little better. For example the Nina and Ana storylines. I thought Nina was the good girl and Ana the bad one trying to kill Nina because she was jealous but just the other day i went to some site where it "explains" the storylines and it said Ana was trying to stop Nina from becoming an assasin and so on So i actually have no clue who's good or bad. But the gameplay is great.

Tekken Tag I really only liked for the nostalgic factor of characters like Bruce (who's supposedly time release in T5, along with Anna and Kuma), Armor King, and Kunimitsu (my favorite Tekken character). As far as everything else goes though, I much prefer T3 and T4 over TTT.

Heihachi and Kazuya are both like Yakuza too, right? I got the story. King Of Iron Fist, yadda yadda yadda, great game, love it(period)
Kazuya is an anagram of Yakuza (Kazuya=Yakuza) get it? Sorta like Axl Rose=oRAl sex.

TEkken is my favorite figting series, but I do admit, the story is pretty whack, the Tekken 2 and TEkken 3 storylines were god, T4 had a decent storyline, but T5 has a horrible storyline, just read Julia's bio.

to answer your question bluntly, to let you know Heihachi is trying to take over the world by getting orge to fuse with him. The only way this will work is with the devil gene( only Kazuya and Jin have this). Both Kazuya and Jin hate him for nearly killing them and enter the tournament( which is bait for those two).
