It had been available for a year in Japan and on July 19th it will finally be here on DVD and Bluray. I really enjoyed it and I think it was better than Mortal Kombat. It has a futuristic, almost anime-style setting, but live-action though. It's also more vicious and bloodier than MK, which is funny because I didn't remember blood in the first Tekken game on PSX.

I would go further than that, personally.
Even as a film, even within its genre, it is a pretty piss poor effort. It shares some of the design fidelity of DOA, maybe a bit more, but is just an utterly joyless affair, with bugger all to sustain the running time.
For the uninformed, there is a new Tekken feature coming in the near future, featuring high-end CG animation similar to the game intros, set in the world of the games. I don't think it's quite going to be exactly what I'd like to see, but it'll be hard pressed to be as disappointing as the live-action effort. It certainly seems like a well justified project.

Agreed. Really, the fight choreography was surprisingly better than I thought it would be and that's the only strong point I took away from the film aside from a few performances (Dale and Goss) that were decent.

I'm confused... it's "new" in the sense it's the first live-action Tekken film and many Americans haven't seen it yet. The first Tekken film usually refers to the anime version, which I read was crap.
I'm not a Tekken fan but the movie did keep the basic premise of the film and followed somewhat the anime film. Basically, a father disowns his son, his son grows up to hate him, his father has his mother killed, the son goes after his father for revenge.
The fights were awesome, the characters were stunning and are probably the best effort of making anime into live-action. It had the gore factor the first MK movie did not have, despite it should have. I think it's going to be one of the top fighter movies most definitely.
But there is another CG movie due out this month: Tekken: Blood Vengeance and only in select theaters.

The usage of "new" in that sense is correct, but at the same time, the film is not new for those who were aware of the Tekken movie. The "new" in this sense creates confusion for people because it implies that there will be a new film coming out, unrelated to the one that has been only in Japan.

A Tekken movie may be cool. I stopped following Tekken after Tekken Tag, but I never stopped liking it. I just kind of drifted away. I'm interested.

Sorry I read what the movie was going to be about, looked up the cast, and decided I would not see this movie. I am a purist when it comes to games being made into movies. If a filmmaker hasn't even played the game why make a movie that is remotely similar to the live action streetfighter movie?

Because frankly, not everything is worthwhile in the subject material and not everything works on the big screen. UMK3 ninja garbs are passable for UMK3, look like utter shit on the big screen. You do not necessarily HAVE to agree or LIKE everything from the source.
But at least knowing the source material is required.

Street Fighter is the greatest movie ever made and Raul Julia is probably one of the best human beings to have ever existed.

Jin at a club that is all.
But the new one comin out seems like it'd be a lot better.
