Haha seriously I like them both, but only few people can see how they are so different from each other...
SIMILARITIES:
-Both hot chicks with sharp claws
-Both cat burglars with feline affinity & attitude
-Both have been heroines & villainesses
-Both had their true identity revealed to authorities over time
-Both are willing to kill someone, but only if they're forced to
-Both had a relationship with a protagonist (Batman for Catwoman /// Spiderman-Wolverine-Daredevil-Puma-etc... for Black Cat, lol skank)
DIFFERENCES:
1) Background Story
-CATWOMAN: Orphaned as a little girl, she grew up on the streets of Gotham learning to steal for survival. Has personality issues.
-BLACK CAT: Rich heir to the powerful empire of her father. Was cheerleader in high school, redeemed herself after she was raped by Flash Thompson.
2) Superpowers
-CATWOMAN: None. Sometimes implied to have ''nine lives'' because she keeps coming back.
-BLACK CAT: Bad luck powers and good fortune powers; previously had feline powers.
3) Signature Move
-CATWOMAN: Her whip!
-BLACK CAT: Her bad luck, grappling hooks and revealing cleavage.
4) Physical Appearance
-CATWOMAN: Started out with just a cat-mask, then she wore a green outfit, then purple and green, even had a cape at some point, then purple and black, then grey and black with golden belt, then black with stitches, then black with goggles, etc... she also had black, brown and blonde hair...
-BLACK CAT: Always had a black leather suit with a black mask, platinum white fur and platinum white hair.
5) Fighting Skills
-CATWOMAN: Kickboxing, street fighting, dirty fighting.
-BLACK CAT: Black belt in karate goju-ryu and judo.
6) Strength
-CATWOMAN: Normal human with training.
-BLACK CAT: Can lift up to 800 pounds.
7) Speed
-CATWOMAN: Normal human with training.
-BLACK CAT: Can reach the top speed of 65 kilometers per hour.

Now that I read this, I like Catwoman more than I ever did before.
Sorry.
From reading these stats, it seems Catwoman had to earn her place, while Black Cat was simply blessed with goodness and opportunity. Catwoman also appears to be successful in her rite without any superhuman influences. Overall, Selina to me is much more honorable and overall a better character.
I also prefer Scarlet Witch when it comes to manipulating probability.
I guess Black Cat just doesn't win with me. Dang.

Always really enjoyed Black Cat as one of those additions to the Spider-man city dynamic in the eighties (and nineties). Never seemed to be as much of an issue, the comparison to Catwoman. She always had her own thing going on and it played well as a supporting character.
Not quite sure I get a genuine sense of Black Cat from this thread, though. Getting that out-of-sync creepy Wiki-meets-fan-fic fetish vibe that seems to float around when MK women come up.
Glorious!

You can prefer one or the other that is up to you, both are awesome characters, but I wouldn't say Black Cat was blessed with goodness and opportunity at all. She fought to obtain what she had and she also had hard choices to make, for example having a special suit made for her by a villain, an enemy of her love interest Spider-Man (the Tinkerer), thus showing she's still not the ''white knight in shining armor'' type of hero. She went from being a little spoiled girl, the prom queen and lead cheerleader of her high school, to a warrior with an inner darkness and desire for vengeance and redemption. When her father was revealed to be the Cat, a worldwide-known cat burglar, she decided to follow his steps, even though her father wanted something better for her. She still makes her choices for herself and not for those around her.
Not to mention when she first appeared, Black Cat was a villainess. Only later she earned her place among the heroes and redeemed herself; she even received pardon from the US government for her crimes. Even though she saved Spider-Man's ass countless times, she's still an anti-hero among the good guys. Yes she freed him from prison and saved his life on several occasions, but she's still a thief, the difference is that now, instead of being a thief like Catwoman, she's a ''Robin Hood'' in her own way, often using her thief skills to take back what was stolen in a first place. As for being ''honorable'' well I would say they have been equally dishonorable in the past, and even though they are both anti-heroes, we could also say they now both have a little something honorable about them.
Something she's earned too is her classic style. Even though she had many different outfits, Black Cat always comes with platinum white hair and fur and a black leather outfit, unlike Catwoman. What I mean is that you can just put on cat ears with anything else and call yourself Catwoman. Also, something that distinguish them a lot, is that Black Cat had several relationships with other characters than Spidey. What I mean is that Catwoman is always related to Batman (except for Halle Berry's Catwoman lol... Patience Philips XD). Black Cat had different agendas. She teamed up with Wolverine against Arcade. She was part of the Heroes for Hire storyline. She is also connected to Daredevil, Puma, Cardiac, etc... Black Cat even had her own mini-series (called, obviously, Black Cat) with her own villains. Catwoman is a great and memorable character, but she's always stuck in the same pattern which gets a little boring. Oh and she got her own sidekick, Catgirl. How original. They just reboot her everytime, but it's the same story all over again everytime. I still like Selina a lot. Just saying.

@ acidslayer: I couldn't tell who would win, because Catwoman has such a huge character shield due to the massive publicity she was given to over the years. I think Black Cat would physically overpower her because of her suit but Catwoman would fight back and it wouldn't be a one-sided fight. Black Cat's luck powers would kick in and affect the tide of the match but somehow Catwoman would find a way to escape because subterfuge is what she's best at. Whoever wins man, it would be one hell of a catfight! *dem tittays for u bros*

The Black Cat is sometimes mistakenly considered an homage to DC's Catwoman, yet Felicia Hardy's signature low-cut black costume, cat burglar profession, and steady relationship to Spider-Man predate Selina Kyle's similar depiction in comics by almost a decade.
Catwoman originally appeared in comics as "the Cat", a maskless pickpocket in a green dress and unrequited love interest for Batman, but later became a supervillain who used big cats for elaborate crimes.
Although she was eventually given a black catsuit and was a romantic interest in the 1966-1968 live-action Batman television series, her modern incarnation combining these elements did not occur in comic books until 1987 with Frank Miller's Batman: Year One.
Wolfman said in an interview, "I didn't plan Black Cat to be in Spidey. I created her for Spider-Woman (look at the letter column of the first B.C. story and you’ll see). I then decided to leave Spider-Woman and moved her over. So, I never even thought of Catwoman when I did her. I got the idea for her from a Tex Avery cartoon, Bad Luck Blackie."

@YingYeung Yeah, Catwoman hasn't changed much over the decades.
It's quite odd how that has never bothered me, considering that same flaw is why I hate Scorpion. lol Anyhoo, I've always had a place in my heart for Selina. She never failed to amaze me on any level. As for Black Cat, I'll give her a chance.
Not wanting to go off topic, but I love these lists.
1. Wonder Woman
2. Emma Frost
3. Phoenix
4. Harley Quinn
5. Scarlet Witch
6. Selina Kyle
7. Shadowcat
8. Mystique
9. Death
10. Jubilee

Here is what Stan Lee said about the power of luck:
QUESTION: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
STAN LEE: Luck.
QUESTION: That's a modest superpower. Why luck?
STAN LEE: Because if you have that, you have everything. The more I think about it, that would be the greatest power. If someone shoots at you, the bullet, it would miss you.
Hahaha nice bro !
Nice list bro! Talking about sexy women, check out what I posted on facebook this morning:

Black Cat, Psylocke, Black Widow, Emma Frost, Elektra, Mystique
Felicia as the platinum-haired cat burglar who controls luck and bad luck, Betsy as the stealthy and lethal assassin, Natasha as the double agent and saboteur, Emma as the powerful psychic white queen, Elektra as the shadow that ends your life and Raven as whoever she wants to be...

If I could compose a team of awesome sexy vixens, it would be so:
Selene - Telekinetic Black Queen
Emma Frost - Telepathic White Queen
Scarlet Witch - Ruler of All Probability
Mystique - Woman With A Million Faces
Shadowcat - Most Intangible on Earth
This team would be INVINCIBLE!
