THE PUNISHER blew!!!!!! (Spoilers I guess)
The_Cold_Kombatant Wrote: OH Man this made my day! This guys review is WORD FOR WORD what I feel about this movie! Just to let you know I'm not the ONLY one that hated it. Enjoy!! http://joblo.com/arrow/punisher-2004.htm |
and i'm supposed to pay attention to someone who thinks the 1989 version is better than this one.i mean, they had the S.O.B living in a freaking sewer.

As much as the 1989 version "Sucks" ITS MUCH better than the new one.
Sad But true.
Sad But true.
well *sighs*,its obvious you have some very deep, personal problems with this movie.you say you're a punisher fan but you bash a movie that is practically a live action "clone" of the novel.this movie is as close, imo,as you can get to the punisher.they even had thomas jane looking exactly as tim bradstreet's punisher minus the slicked back hair.i am not a huge fan of the punisher but i love this movie.
also, not to be mean, but if you hate this movie so much why are you even spending all your time bashing on the movie.you wrote a review and reasons to why you hate this movie so leave it at that.go discuss how much you love kill bill 2 and not how much you hate a movie, which seems like you have some fondness for--seeing how much time you're wasting bashing it.i,for one,am through.flame away

...In no way am I trying to Flame you. Or piss you off. I'm just saying what I feel about the movie. However, when you keep telling me reasons why I SHOULD like it then I have to respond back. Don't I? We're just two different people. With two different opinions about this movie. Lets just leave it at that.

The_Cold_Kombatant,
I just got back from seeing the movie and where's what I think.
1. The fat guy did not need to be in the movie. The girl and the dud with the piercing were enough.
2. I didn't mind the lines in the movie. If you can get good actors to say them and they pull them off, eventhough they may be corny, they still worked, at least in my view.
3. The pacing of the film was fine with me, although I would have liked the survalence scenes to be done better. I think him doing the leg work on his own instead of letting that flunkie of Saint do it would have been more effective.
4. My only huge gripe! His family (wife and son) didn't die in a car bomb like in the comics.
I enjoyed the flick because I didn't expect a deep introspective journey through the distrought mind of Frank Castle. Only the comics can do such an aspect with justice. I hear some.... (huh hear by reading text!) I read from some that the movie wasn't dark enough. Well how dark should it have been then? I mean what kind of scenario's, scenes, and lines could have helped the movie? It couldn't stay entirely to the comics, although the setting of Florida and his kids not dying in a car bomb ticked me off a little.
Hell... I read one critic's review and he thought that it was too dark, so that's why he only gave it 2/4 stars or some superfluous shit like that. So interpretations are always to be varied to some degree.

I didn't bother to read a lot of the posts in this thread. Fine, we get your damned opinion.. it "sucks." Move on plzkthx.
I thought it was a pretty cool movie. The Punner planned out his shit in teh most clever way....
But yeah, me being a Marvel fanboi to the end, I probably won't spend my 7.50 towards Quentin's pocket. I'll try and see it (Kill Bill) for free somehow.

The new Punisher sucks, along with most things that are new... nu metal for instance...absoulutely no skill. Metallica *was awesome! But St.Anger sucked, well I guess you can't be good all the time
The Punisher has never gotten to be good at any time in the movie business, the older comics ruled. If you want to see the Punisher the way he should be look at Mike Zech's art of him.

If I remember correctly, the Russian comes back to life. The Russian government or some organization repairs his neck. I dont remmeber if he was decpaitated in the comics or he indeed broke his neck like he did in the movie (it was spun like 180 fuckin degrees around, that would stop anyone) but when he comes back for revenge, he has his neck stitched all around, and they gave him estrogen injections or some kind of steroids that gave him... are you ready for this?... big fuckin tits. No lie. And he loves them... he even wheres a dress under his trenchcoat when they 1st meet again on a building top. Your saying that isnt fucking corny?
Like the movie or not, it was setting the story up. They had to for people who have no clue who Punisher is. Its an origin story nothing more. The sequals is were the action will be. Once Punisher is established, the blood can spill. I guarentee the action in the next movies will be like the action in the last 5 min of the 1st movie, throughout. More guns, more bodies. Jigsaw is the next villain for Jane to go up against. Thomas Jane did a great job. Better than what I expected. It was the neighbors who brought down the atmosphere at times, but it was needed as they were in the comics, in some form.

I thought this movie was better than most comic movies because the hero didn't have super powers. He was a real person with real problems. You could actually relate to him cause given the right conditions you could easily become him. To me The Punisher and Batman will always be ontop of my list because they are just regular people. You could easily be thrust into their position. This movie is the best comic book adaptation next to the first and second batman films. I hope that the new batman is like this movie. The reason why people thought it blew weither if they like to admit it or not is because he is not the typical comic book film hero. He doesn't have super powers and such and that turns most comic movie fans away. This movie kicked ass and it will be mine on dvd
In order to appreciate the movie, you have to already be familiar with the Punisher. If the movie is your first experience of the Punisher, than of course you probably wouldn't understand it. Even seeing his appearance in the Spider-Man cartoon, and maybe the Dolph Lundgren movie, isn't enough. If you're gonna insult characters like Dave, Bumpo, and the Russian, they're not bad characters of the movie, they're bad characters of the comics. Like that other dude said, it'd be like insulting the Spider-Man movie for "making up the character Jonah", or insulting the Batman movies because it "made up the idea of a guy dressing up like a bat".
If you HAVE read the comics, which is the only real way to have an understanding of the character, you'd see that the movie was very faithful, and kept the atmosphere and characters intact. Yeah, I had a couple qualms with it, like Thomas Jane playing the Punisher, and the light-hearted way he seemed sad about the failure of the justice system, but for the other parts of the movie, it was great. The BattleVan should have been more tricked out, though. And they forgot Chip.
Probably the part that felt the most like the Punisher comics was at the very end, just before the credits. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but if you saw the movie, you probably remember what it was, and watching it felt just like reading a comic.
Just read the Punisher comics already, they're good. Did you know the Russian gets turned into a woman?

Well, now I see that other guy mentioned the Russian woman thing. I don't think it was just bigger breasts, because he mentioned something about getting a weird cramped feeling once a month. Anyway, the woman Russian then ties the Punisher up and tosses him off the Statue of Liberty, when Spidey happens to swing by. Spidey saves him, but only because he didn't know who it was until after the rescue. Then they talk all coldly to each other, but grudgingly team up. It's very cool.
The Punisher actually started out as a Spider-Man villain in the 70s! He was one of the bad guys that sorta means well, but is going down the wrong path. Like a religious fanatic, sort of. By his second appearance, he was already in his own comic.
Oh yeah, I know another thing the movie coulda used: the War Journals. Narration seems pretty common in the Marvel Movies, so why not? Although it woulda been kinda hard to do, considering how much of the movie was origin. So basically, the sequel needs to have the War Journals, a more tricked-out BattleVan, and Chip. Then it'll be complete.
