Hey Folks.
Well, I decided to make this Star Trek Thread, because its something I cant really remember seeing on MKO. Star Trek has a HUGE cult following, and I have recently (over this past year) really started getting into Start Trek, so thought I'd see if there were any more trekkies out there.
I'm not really entirely sure what this thread should be about. I guess, somewhere we can all talk about the many Series and Movies. Eg, our Favourite Series, Favourite Characters and Favourtie Episodes etc, and just general Star Trek ChitChat.
Over the past year, I've seen All 7 Seasons of The Next Generation, and all 7 Season's of Deep Space Nine. Im starting on Voyager now, and Ive seen the odd episode of the Original Series and Enterprise. (So maybe if you are gonna speak about HUGE spoilers of those series, you could give a warning to those of us who may not ahve seen everything....doesnt need to be a spoiler box necissarily).
So ummmmm, yeah i'll start.
Favourite Series:
Star Trek: the Next Generation.
Favourite Characters (in order):
ST: TNG-
1. Tasha Yar
2. Captain Piccard

ST: VOY
I dont have a rank as such as I only started it, but im liking B'Elanna Torres, Chakotay and Janeway (thought her voice is grating on me).
ST: ENT
Same as above, only seen the first season. Like Phloxx, T'Pol and Archer. And trip is HOT!
The others are just there!

I'm sure if I watched like 3 episodes, I'd be hooked, and perhaps I shall do this some day soon.
I just wanted to come in here and say this rocks. If you search for Star Trek there is tons of funny stuff on that site.

I used to be a big fan back in high school...never missed an episode of Next Gen also seen most of Deep Space 9 and Voyager although I never really followed either of those as much as Next Generation (watched a lot of re-runs tho so I caught most of the episodes). I tried to watch Star Trek: Enterprise but it was always on while I was at work or something so I never really got into it much. I don't really have any favorite characters ...I liked most of them throughout the series...
Favorite Episodes:
Yesterday's Enterprise
Cause and Effect
Q Who?
The Best of Both Worlds (1&2)
Disaster

OMG that lil tune is really good. I love Picard. Best Captain IMO.
I think you would get into Star Trek. i watched the Original Series with Kirk et al when I was wee, but I dont remember much about it. Then a few friedns through high school were into it and I was like....uh no thanks, its dumb and geeky

No No NO, Lover, Season One is very good. It has Tasha Yar!
I like all of those epsidoes, and now u mention it, Beverley based Episodes were actually all very good. But OMG why does she have such an annoying offspring!!!
As for Deep Space Nine, well It took me a while to get into too. I HATED a few of the characters to begin with, and cameos from TNG people in the first series made it too 'Ripp-Off' of TNG, but in a way, that was needed to later establish it on its own. it let the stories build gradually. Mid Season 2 is where it all starts to click IMO. It has some of the best stories, and when u think about them (after seeing all the series) they are very complex, but flow well gradually over time. get watching it or I will have to spank you in a Holosuite.
Also, interesting that Q shows up once again in Voyager. I like almost ALL of his epsidoes. Im not sure about the DS9 episode tho, it seemed kinda.....weird for seom reason. most of his previous stuff had a humour and or very dramatic feel. the DS9 one was just any other epsidoe to me.

I had the same problem with Enterprise. I seen most of the first season, but the second got put on a real dodgy times here, when either something else was on, or I was always doing something regular at that time. Then I didnt wanna watch Season 3 or 4 cause I hadnt seen 2. I will get the DVDs eventually tho and watch the rest.
Some of my favourite storylines include:
-Tasha's return (Yesterdays Enterpriseand Redemption story) (TNG)
-The Borg (TNG)
-Data/Lore (Tho Lore was annoying lol) (TNG)
-The Prophets/Pah Wraiths thing and Dukat's involvement. (DS9)
-The Founders (DS9)
-Changelings replacin the likes of Martok/Bashir (DS9)
-The whole Trill Joining Idea. Excellent IMO (DS9)
-(Already loving) The Whole Lost in Delta Quadrant Idea (VOY)
And what about you guys' least favourite characters?
I HATED Worf to begin with in TNG. I hated the whole 'no emotion except Anger I'm a Klingon' shit but I eventaully found myself liking him a lot more as the season's went on. And OMG his son Alexander was so fucking annoying too. but then they go and introduce him into Deep Space Nine. I wasnt a fan of this, as, although O'Brien cossed Over, he was kinda a more lesser character being brought to the main through DS9. But Worf was already established etc and I didnt think it necessary. Also, I think a lot of his DS9 work contradicted his TNG character. All along he battled as to whether his loyalties lay with the federatoion or Klingon Empire. I think, he chose Federation, yet he became more Klingon in DS9. Kinda a bit confusing and contradictory IMO. i think they overused him, and he just became this Main player in the DS9 overnight, and the others got brushed aside a bit.
I also despied Wesley Crusher for some reason. he seemed very out of place to me, and got too many storylines IMO. And what was the whole.....'Three episode into the series, I get made an Ensign without any training' thing all about (OK was a bit longer than 3 episodes but u get my meaning).
I also wasnt keen on Dr. Pulaski. Probably because I liked Beverly so much. I could see why they wanted to mess about with the cast a bit and stuff, and she was very different from Beverly, which was good, as then she didnt become a rip off. I did like her more toward the end of season 2, and was kinda puzzled as to why she just suddenly disappeard. At least when she came into it, they explained Beverly's absence and where she was etc. Pulaski just disappeared.
Julian Bashir. What the hell is it about him. He was so arrogant and annoying and smarmy. Lol. But then all of a sudden I was like....awww I like him. SHIT WTF where did that come from. Lol. they managed to turn a generally disliked character into a likeable loveable soul. good on the writers. Much helped by Miles O'Brien IMO.
Cant really comment on the others series tho. But I do think Hoshi and Mayweather didnt get enough involvement through Enterprise. I didnt dislike them, but I think if they stayed mainly background it would make me dislike them a bit cause they would become annoying cling-ons (not klingon lol). But that was only season 1.

hoshi became more apart of the story in seasons 3 and 4 if my memory is right
all i know is that id love a movie that involves characters from TNG, VOY, and ENTERPRISE. they could have it be a borg one. there was a borg episode on enterprise. the borg was on "enterprise" because during the timeline in first contact a few borg were left on antartica or something, they were thawed out, assimulated a few people then left earth to go home (delta quad). enterprise crew stopped the borg during their trip, but not before the borg were able to send a message. the message however was said to take over 200 years to reach its destonation, so said T'pol. anyway now im babbling, but i still think it would make a good movie if written right..

I'd also like to see a film that involved the cast from other series. I think there is enough story etc for it to happen, though with Deep Space Nine, they would ahve to kinda set it BEFORE the end of Season 7, as Deep Space Nine has a lot of closure, whereas The Next Generation were all still together etc and exploring the galaxy as normal.
Dunno what happens at the end of Voyager yet, though I think I can guess that they eventually find a way home. Lol but dont spoil it. Even if they do get home as I predict, I dunno how/when and what happens to them before hand etc.

See, the only show that might have a chance to be made into a decent movie imo is DS9. However, how it ended makes it hard for the crew to carry over to film. What also might make a DS9 movie problematic is that though it gained loyal fans, it wasn't as strong as the TNG fanbase.

I didn't like when they replaced Bev ...it's funny that I wasn't really a fan of her until after she was gone...then I realized shit it sucks without her. I didn't like Pulaski at all...not sure why just didn't enjoy her character.

Yeah, like I said I began to like her a bit more toward the end, but the damage had been done. I kinda liked her accent tho.
Thank God they got rid of Wesley, the little retard lol.
Ooooooh I also really liked the Alternate timeline and alterante reality stuff. it was touched upon in The Original Series, and also The Next Generation, but it really came into the main with Deep Space Nine. OMG I loved Kira as the Intendent. Lol. It was so funny.. And O'Brien being called Smiley lol. Tho for a long time, jadzia Dax was missing from the alternate timeline, then she just popped up lol yet Ezri was always there (according to the final Alternate timeline episode in Season 7). I liked this whole alternate timeline stuff. Tasha's alternate timeline story was good too, tho I hated how after Sela was revealed to be her daughter, they were like....oh they killed my mother. That was fucking dumb (though maybe am biased being....probably the only.....big Tasha Yar fan) they could ahve had her stage a return even for a few episodes or something, or sent her back to her own period in time. But oh well lol.

alterante reality timeline was only done on the 1st startrek, DS9 and enterprise. i actually seeen the DS9 episode, where the humans were slaves and shit. but they deserved it lol the Enterprise one was the best IMO, they could of actually started a show based off of it. they didnt have the "normal crew" interact w/ the alternate crew, it was just the alternates crews own show. i wont go into more details cuse then ill be spoiling it :-\ hoshi a big part of it danadbab Wrote:

I did like her more toward the end of season 2, and was kinda puzzled as to why she just suddenly disappeard. At least when she came into it, they explained Beverly's absence and where she was etc. Pulaski just disappeared.

The Next Generation Episode' Yesterday's Enterprise' had an alternate reality/timeline story.
Thats when the USS Enterprise previous to piccards crossed a temporal rift. it altered the time line and universe, to one in which Tasha was still alive, and the Klingon-Federation alliance hadnt been formed (because the Old USS Enterprise hadnt stopped the war as it came through a time rift). Guinan was the only one who knew reality had been tampered with, and she Told Tasha she was meant to be dead. So tashsa decided that when they sent the Old Enterprise back, she would go with them, as that crew all died, but at least with her with them, theyd die fighting. but actually, what they didnt know is all the crew were taken prisoner, so Tasha was too, so she crossed realities....and went onto live on Romulus.

thats a totally different storyline. it wasnt really a alternate reality, it was a timeshift. things changed because the older enterprise didnt help out the klingons. time was fixed when the older enterprise went back in time. i guess the worf episode was like the DSP, startrek and enterprise ones. The Next Generation Episode' Yesterday's Enterprise' had an alternate reality/timeline story.

the DSP, startrek and enterprise episodes were actually real realities happening during the same time line, just in another universe.

Yes, the are differnt in that one is real and one isnt, but what Im saying is that its the IDEA of their being alternate realities, and also of altering existing timelines that I like. In essence the idea is the same, jsut done done in different ways, having different outcomes. But the idea is in essence the same. But whatever dont make me spank u!!!
Moving on lol.
What do u guys think about the killing of main cast. It seems to me #SPOILER# that th death of three of the main characters (one in TNG, one in ENT and one in DS9) were pretty much stupid and unnecessary. There was no real meaning to their death. they all died empty untimely deaths. What a way to kill people off on a TV show. is a bit of a waste. Even is peoplew anna leave etc, they should get rid them of them in a decent way, instead of jsut lame, empty, unnecessary deaths. (Dunno if any voyager crew die).

#Spoiler about a TNG storyline#
Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar) wanted to leave as she got a film offer, but like everyone else, she was contracted for Two Seasons (Beverly was also later dropped from Season 2). They probably killed her cause she quit her contract.....in a sort of 'Hmph, Take That Bitch' way lol. Im pretty sure she wanted the storyline of Tasha to be left open. As did the actress who played the killed off character in DS9. But the writers had other ideas.
I saw this on some Extra Features on the TNG DVD box sets. An interview with Denise herself. Also, the writer, cant remember his name, said Denise herself was angry about her sudden on screen death, and fans were generally very unhappy too. But the had to make her death quick etc cause they didnt get much warning of her departure, so thats why she dies so dumbly. Thats where yesterday's Enterprise came into play. It was kinda the real send off that Tasha deserved, and that fans/writers/Denise wanted. Cause she kinda sacrificed herself etc to save others in yesterday's Enterprise. It was also Denise Crosby who came up with the Sela story.
As fo the person who dies on ENT:
Death on Deep Space Nine:
EDIT: I am assuming from the posts that everyone is basically familiar with the TNG Death since we have all seen it. I just realised that I wrote all this stuff about the death in that series, and then put the others in spoiler boxes. Sorry to anyone who didnit know about poor Tasha's untimely demise. I've put a little warning anyway. I reckoned since some ahdnt seen all fo ENT or DS9 that I should put those characters in Spoiler boxes.
And what about Star Trek computer games? Anyone played any/ can recommend any etc.
I just bough Star trek: Shattered Universe today for PS2. I'll pop it in the Old SonyBox tomorrow and give it a try.

This is where I come in.
I suggest ST DS9: Dominion Wars. It has a few bugs in the game, but they're not major ones. It's too short imo, but it's a great game. Also, ST Voyager: Elite Force is another good game to have for a FPS.

Star Trek: Elite Force 1 & 2 are both pretty good fps like Ghost said... also if you like ship combat Starfleet Command 3 is not bad (there is no real great storyline but the ship to ship battles are pretty fun... it's also a good lan game if you got a bunch of trek fans together).
