They are everywhere. Call of duty, battlefield,Call of duty, gears of war, and more call of duty. That is all people play. 24/7. These games are sooooo boring. There is no action at all, no music, no strategy. There are thousands of games out there, puzzle, rpgs, action Adventure, sports, Racing, fighting, etc. Do you guys play them?? I personally have no respect for people who say are gamers, but all they play is C.O.D. Just my opinión.

For me the problem is the over homogenization of the shooter genre by companies trying to court the COD crowd as opposed to their own fanbases. That's why games like Takedown: Red Sabre are so refreshing.

Not liking shooters because you don't like shooters is just a personal thing.

Gears of War isn't a 1st person shooter. It also takes more strategy than typical shooters because you only have 1 life per round and the matches are small 4 v 4. Having to use cover properly and covering and reviving teammates rather than going in guns blazing. I'm not saying it isn't possible for 1 man to take down an entire team in GoW (I've done it in the first game, when most gamers didn't understand the mechanics), but its not mindless gun blazing like COD.

i've never really liked FPSs, there's only a handful that i like because they have something special and non-generic about them:

Doom I & 2
TimeSplitters series
Bioshock 1 & 2

... that's it.

I like racing games but only in overview not FP view.

i think it's because FP view is actually really limiting. What you can see on a screen is a fraction of a true 180 degrees view of normal 20:20 eyesight.

COD is boring because it's been annualized. Nothing new in the franchise to make it interesting.

But not all FPS are boring. Killzone: Shadow Fall looks really cool. Resistance was a good series too.

If you don't like them - don't play them. It is that simple.
Nobody forces you to play in FPS.
I hate RPGs and I don't play them. And that's it.

So, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Doom, Timesplitters, Dishonored, Turok (Nintendo series only).... Do they suck too because they're first person shooters?

I don't have a problem saying I'm a Call of Duty fan, but it's certainly not the only series I play 24/7. I don't even play games 24/7. What's the problem liking a first person shooter anyways when they do deliver what you said isn't in them. Try the ones I mentioned, kay?

I think the OP was referring to modern FPS that are pretty much annualized with little change.

As far as FPS go though, I think the reason they are so popular (at least here in the states) is because they are so easy to get into and they are well suited for MP. There's also very few genres that actually support group play the way FPS do. Sport games are usually better off for 1v1 and MMO's are too cumbersome with subscription fees. Also while racing games do support MP, most of the time you have players playing bumper cars and trying to force other players off the road, rather than race legit.

In your opinion. I think Halo 4's a good game, certainly much better now than when it was released.

I thought it was a good game too. Much better and more true to the series roots than Halo 3 or Reach. My only complaint was the MP maps kind of sucked. I wished they would have brought more classic maps back.

Halo 4 more true to roots than Halo 3? Excuse me while I go put myself in the trunk of my car and cry myself to death.

Please, we both know you haven't done so, and are reading this post from your PC. If you're reading this from a mobile device, then there is a chance you are reading this from the trunk of your car, in which case I highly advise you get out of there and remember that there is still hope.

Simply explain to Kabal20 why Halo 3 is more true to the roots than Halo 4.

m0s3pH, please don't let TNR spend his last days weeping in the trunk of his car.

>Thread topic
I play first person shooters, but not frequently. There are other games for me to play, like Mortal Kombat, Injustice, God of War, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen and such.

It is because MP doesn't revolve around relying on all these power-up that are scattered around the map. All or the special abilities in Halo 4 are baked into the controls/gameplay mechanics.

Power ups?

1. If you are talking about things like power drain, radar jammer, gravity lift, deploy-able cover in Halo 3... Those are equipment. The only "power up" would be Camo, Overshield, or "Custom Powerup" which is very rarely used in matchmaking if ever. I would bet on things such as the gravity lift on High Ground being placed where it is with the intention by Bungie of it being used how it commonly is (to get to the laser and infiltrate the base). I'm pretty sure they took gameplay mechanics into consideration.

2. Halo 4 has Power ups in Ordinance (damage boost, speed boost, and I guess Overshield if you want to count it as one. The whole class system in Halo 4 is a power up system, regardless of being "scattered around the map" or not. The point is there are more power ups in Halo 4 then there are in Halo 3. Sure the "Abilities" section of customization could be called power ups, but even the "Tactical Package" and "Support Upgrades" sections are boosts / power ups for your spartan even if only minor boosts.

I've never liked first person shooters, and the only first person-view game I've ever liked is Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

To me, FPS games are highly repetitive. No matter what game it is, or what year it is, it's still the same style, same weapons, same uniforms, same format. You run, you hide, you shoot, you run, you hide. Regardless of the weapon, how you play remains the same. It's so very boring. lol

Also, I very much agree with how gaming companies are trying far too hard to cash in on the CoD craze.

Halo multiplayer was always predicated on timing power weapons and active camo/overshield. It's an arena shooter, so it's a level playing field for everyone... the way to get an edge on everyone else is to know when things are about to spawn. If you didn't do that, you were playing the game incorrectly. To then say that Halo 3 (which has power-ups, power weapons, AND equipment to time) isn't true to the roots of the franchise is ridiculous.

Some FPS are good, has anyone here ever played Spec Ops: The Line? I felt really bad because there are some decisions you do which makes "No Russian" from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 look like child's play.

I do agree the market is getting saturated, I stopped playing Call of Duty after Black Ops 2.

I like FPS games that have character, games like some people have already mentioned; Bioshock, Timesplitters, Elder Scrolls. Goldeneye, Dishonoured.

I don't like the ones set in warzones, I really can't tell the difference between COD and Battlefield let alone COD Black Ops and COD Modern Warfare.

My brother played COD2 and COD4 on my Xbox years ago and got achievements on both so I'm stuck with them forever on my history.
I recently made him 100% COD2 though and will make him finish CoD4 even if there is a "really hard plane bit".

It kinda does my head in when those games whore up the game sites but I get over it and it just becomes second nature to ignore them. I don't go out of my way to tell people who love them that I don't like them because there is no point winding them up.

I love racing games, my favourite ever would have to be Burnout Revenge. That game was amazing! Paradise... not so much, the whole driving to a race was tedious after a while.
I'm hoping for a new Burnout soon. They brought back another game I love, SSX which I didn't expect so there is hope.

My favourite genre would be third person action, adventure, puzzle, horror. I like to see my character so games like Tomb Raider, GTA, Resident Evil, Mass Effect, Dragon Age etc etc.
We are really quite spoilt in the third person area. grin

So to sum up, if you hate FPS games ignore them and play something else, there are so many other awesome games.

It's been like this since about 2009. It's going to die down soon. My guess is that open world games and simulators are gonna be the next big genre
