Britney Spears has scored her first No.1 hit in nearly four years with 'Toxic'. Her last No.1 was 'Oops I Did It Again'.

Wes managed to speak to her on the phone last night from her Onyx Hotel tour in Los Angeles - she said she's really chuffed with how well the tour is being received and can't wait to bring it over here at the end of April:

"Usually if I do a show, I never really read the reviews because I really try not to care what the critics think, but everyone's telling me that they're actually liking the show, they're saying really, really positive things about it, so I'm just flattered. I think it's great that not only the fans but the critics really enjoy it."

"It's been a while since I've been able to really share my music on stage and perform. In the UK, the fans have always been so welcoming and so amazing, so I just can't wait to show them my show."

DJ Casper's 'Cha Cha Slide' entered at No.2, much better than the MC Jig cover also released this week - that only managed No.33. George Michael's 'Amazing' went in at No.4, his first hit since returning to Sony.

Kylie's 'Red Blooded Woman' debuted at No.5, Beenie Man's 'Dude' entered at No. 7, Blink 182 at No.8 and No Doubt's cover of 'It's My Life' only managed No.17.

New singles this week include releases from Cyprus Hill, Enrique Iglesias, Evanescence, J-Lo, Jet, N*E*R*D and the Black Eyed Peas.

Seriously, good for her, she's the youngest female to sell so much, and she isn't stopping any time soon. People focus on her personal life so much (tho she is famous so I understand), she's always under the microscope. Actually, it's 'cool' to hate her an say she's an industy made pop blah blah blah. I actually think she is very good.

i cant realli remember what it's called but the part where her voice goes all "wierd" and high was already done by another band (something punk...cant remember). But overall i HATE britney spears and her popish music...her music will forever scar my soul :P

There is a another annoying song out by Eamon the guy's voice is just annoying he sounds like a little kid who couldnt get his way.

I think it's an annoying as hell song that is overplayed, just like pretty much all of her songs.

It's funny when you first hear it someone told me about it I didnt beleive it at first untill I saw the video.I dont think that song made it #1 here yet.I heard there is another version of that song only with a girl singing.

THe song is catchy and Britney is hot. Im not a fan of hers and I won't buy her album, but I do believe she loves attentions and would do many things to get it.

HOWEVER, she's a giver, and I don't care how many flaws there are in your personality, I think if you can take time and give millions to charity then you're ok with me.

I really hope rappers give money to charity. Does anyone know if they do? I know P.Diddy does, but im not sure about any one else. It would be ashame..talking about ice and such, but not giving anything up.

As much as I despise her, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the song.

The problem is, any mediocre female vocalist could have done it. The song required no special talent on her part outside of nominal singing abilities. The production, the engineering, the writing... none of it reflects who she is because none of it was created by her. As much as VH1 and MTV would love to throw around the term with abandon, Britney is not an "artist" by any stretch of the imagination. She is, literally, a tool- another instrument in the mix of the song. That makes it easy for me to say that I like the song but still can't stand her or anything else she's done in one fell swoop.

I'm one of those that hated her with all their souls till this song. Its simply amazing, and I was COMPLETELY SHOCKED when I bought her album!!!! It was like SO NOT the OLD Britney spears I used to hate so much.

The hip hop and electric feeling is amazing, even the pop is catchy! and that song is simply the best. But that album left me shocked, it made me actually see she had talent. Some of the songs she wrote are simply excellent.

I never in my life thought I would say this crazy thing but I .like .Britney ..Spears now. She has talent. And im not talking only about Toxic, you have to listen to her songs to understand what I mean Britney-haters, I was “one of you” lol.

Well, it seems like many here do agree that the song is catchy and actually very good. And yes, my friend blade-tsung said it, Britney rocks!

BRITNEY SPEARS has topped the UK singles chart in a good week for new entries.

Her single ’Toxic’ is the highest new entry, but four out of the Top Five this week are also new songs.

DJ Casper is new at Number Two with ’Cha Cha Slide’, George Michael makes a strong comeback at Number Four with ’Amazing’ and Kylie Minogue’s new single ’Red Blooded Woman’ is new at Number Five.

Last week’s Number One, ’Mysterious Girl’ by Peter Andre falls two places to Number Three.
