So it's that time of year again. This Saturday, the Video Game Awards will take place on Spike. Normally I don't watch the awards but this year I am. More for the reveals and not the actual awards. But this year the Game of the Year category is stacked. It's between The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, and GTA V. (Tomb Raider and a Mario game are also in that category but aren't worth mentioning because we know they won't win.)
To see all the nominees for all categories click here
Anyone else going to watch? Or have a specific game you want to win in a certain category?

These nominees are laughable. Holy crap.
*Sighs* I really didn't find The Last of Us that great of a game.
It was tough to pick either Watch Dogs or Stick of Truth for Most Anticipated Game, that last trailer for the South Park game was just too hilarious not to get something. I thought it was a great trailer.
I truly enjoyed Bioshock: Infinite, and I was never stumped with what appears to be a very confusing ending. Seriously? That ending confused a heck of a lot of people? Whatever, it was truly different from the first two games and I thought that was awesome.
Best voice actor goes to Steven Ogg. Trevor was a fucking hilarious character and that voice just went well with him. Psychotic, serious and then comedic. Ahh...
Camilla Luddington for best voice actress. I enjoyed the new Tomb Raider, and she made it convincing that Lara was in grave danger during those horrific moments.
Best DLC goes to the one and only greatness: Dishonored. I LOVE this game, I LOVED the DLCs that came with it. I would gladly appreciate seeing more from this game.
Best Playstation game goes to Grand Theft Auto 5. This game was a MAJOR improvement from the fourth. Everything about this game I loved, even though I still haven't finished it (school and Warcraft are preventing me to, but after I'm done, I'll get back into the game).
These are the only ones I've voted for.

Let's see... I voted
GOTY: The Last of Us
Best Voice Actor: Troy Baker
He's just incredibly talented. He's in almost every game these days and there's a reason for that. He's damn good.
Best Voice Actress: Ellen Page
After playing through Beyond: Two Souls, I can say her performance was Oscar worthy. Easily the best performance in the category.
Best Playstation Game: The Last of Us
This category is stupid. They're using third party games in a category that's for Playstation games. You can enjoy GTA V on 360 so how is that a PS game? It's not. The Best Console Game category should have first party games only.
Fighting Game of the Year: Injustice. Duh

I voted Killer instinct fighting game of the year. I think injustice is going to win though on name alone.
Having played all but Kickdive, I think Killer Instinct is the better fighting game, but I think the lack of content is actually going to hurt it.
Tekken Revolution only let's you play a hand of games at a time and Injustice is buggy, gimmicky and harder to grasp that Killer Instnct.

I'm also in the "The Last of Us wasn't that good" camp. I love Naughty Dog, and I've thoroughly enjoyed every game they've put out (that I can recall) since the first Crash Bandicoot, but this one just didn't click with me. The story was great, but I never got in to the gameplay at all. That's just me though.
I also voted for Luddington for best female voice. She was perfect as Lara Croft.
For fighter, I voted Killer Instinct. Boon and Co made a fighter that has everything KI lacks: A great story mode, tons of characters, tons of modes etc. But I'm just not a big DC guy. The characters are okay, but neither they nor the gameplay held my interest. Too many gimmicks, the controls never felt quite right... Honestly, I got the season pass and wound up selling it after the first character came out.
Six characters, a lack of modes at launch, and yet it has one of the best, most engaging (and surprisingly deep) fighting systems I've played in years. Possibly ever. Yes, it's that good. It's not without it's flaws, but versus the current field, I think it's the best, warts and all. Just my opinion though. I don't blame anyone for voting for Injustice, especially given it's level of content. I do think that Injustice will win in a landslide, which is fine given that KI just came out. I'm always happy when NRS wins, so no problem there!
Game of the year was GTA V for me. I didn't even like GTA all that much, but this one converted me. Fantastic game.
I don't really care much for this award show, because it's based more on popularity than merit, but I voted for Pokémon X and Y anyway.
The game is easily one of the best in the franchise, and despite its lack of lasting post-game play, it still caters to the competitve and strategic proess many players seek.
Also, I didn't think Pokémon X and Y would get two nominations, so that kind of perked me up.

Does anyone really think that anything other than GTA V is going to win GOTY?

I couldn't vote for KI for 2 Reasons:
> Killer Instinct is not a finished game
> Injustice KILLS KI in terms of content
Honestly, I think it was unfair to KI to even be in the running. It's not finished, and won't be until next year. Maybe next year it'll have better chances at Fighting game of the year but not this year.

While I understand your point, and is the same reason I feel Injustice will win. From a pure gameplay perspective though KI blows Injustice out of the water. Injustice was a fun games, but in hindsight a lot of the game's mechanics are gimicky and where really hard for me to grasp at first. More so than any other fighting game. Not to mention how buggy the game can be.
Killer Instinct is already grabbing the attention of the pro/competitive community. The game is deep, yet accessable. And nothing seems gimicky about the combat. I haven't seen any major gamebreaking gameplay bug that Injustice suffered from, even months after launch.

I haven't even looked at them and I know this to be true.
I guess KI is a honorary runner only - the game is unfinished and no matter how much attention it grabs from the fighting community it is yet to be seen, if it will be succesfull with the main audience. In the end it is 1/4 of the game VS complete games, so odds not in the KI favor.

Don't know how many of you guys have seen anything on it, but the day after the site was launched for the show, another category was added for "Character of the Year", but had no listed nominees, and was taken off by 10 that night.
Thoughts?

Wonder who the nominees were?
Oh and apparently it WON'T be on Spike this year. They've decided to stream it across various platforms for whatever reason.
"VGX will be streamed across Xbox One, Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 (PS3TM), Twitch, iOS and Android devices, and available globally on VGXLIVE.com, Hulu, Yahoo Screen, the Yahoo Screen app and Viacom properties Spike.com, ComedyCentral.com MTV.com, MTV2.com, BET.com and GameTrailers.com. VGX will be live streamed for three-hours on Saturday, December 7, beginning at 6:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM PT. Spike TV will also air highlights of the show as "VGX Replay" on Monday, December 9 at midnight."

Underwhelmed thus far...
Quantum Break may be the game that makes me buy an Xbox one though.
**edit** Two, count'em, two Tell Tale Games reveals...
**edit part deux** Welp, this show was borderline unwatchable. I ended up refreshing kotaku for the rest of the reveals, which were(again) underwhelming. I get that nobody liked the celebrity pandering spike had been doing on the last few shows, but damn...this felt like a train wreck.

Haha me too. Says a lot when a nearly year old game is one of the high points of the show. That being said...I'm probably gonna buy it.

After watching the entire stream, here's my thoughts:
- Disappointed
- A mash-up of Borderlands with point and click? Pass.
- The viral videos were a complete waste of time.
- Joel Mchale dogging Geoff all night was great. But my god this format was so unorganized. Nobody knew what the hell was going on half the time.
- The "Super big awesome game announcement" was a joke. A point and click Game of Thrones game? Get out of my face with that.
- No PS exclusive reveals or The Order: 1886 gameplay is SO disappointing.
- Kranky Kong for Smash 4
- Broken Age looks cool
- Quantum Break also looked pretty cool
- Snowdrop engine is incredible
- Loiter Squad should be destroyed, each and every one of them.
- TLOU not winning GOTY was expected. Popularity > Merit.
- No Ellie for Character of the Year? Why the hell not?
- I guess no one cares about the best Male/Female Perfomance award...
- Same goes for the Fighting game award...
- Whoever said GTA V has a good soundtrack is insane. The soundtrack was seriously lacking.
- That Abbey chick who helped show off Titanfall was hot.
- Naughty Dog at least gets something.
- I hate the show format.
- Pewdiepie needs to PewdieDIE
And of course the worst of all, there was NOTHING worth watching for. Not one reveal or world premiere was worth it. I'll stick to E3 for the big reveals.

That was absolutely the worst thing about it. No matter how bad past shows were, at least there were some cool reveals on display. This year...two tell tale games announcements, a tech demo, a port, and some gameplay that more or less weve already gotten the gist of in past demos. They could've cut out all the filler and made an episode of gttv. I'll be shocked if there's a VGXI.

Whoever made this whole show should get kicked in the nuts. I've had enough of this Geoff whatever. Man does not laugh nor is he entertaining. The only music part I liked was the last one where it was the same song from Franklin's ending where
I did like that song, but muted it just because I was done by the time it started. Whole thing was just shit. Developers, producers and studios didn't seem happy when they won their award, no one in the audience of that damn lobby seemed excited for anything that was revealed (don't blame them) or when winners were announced.
Horrible.
Horrible.
Horrible VGA (VGX).
Honestly, the fact that a year old port was the only thing that got me going (in my opinion and view) is pretty damn sad. I was expecting huge reveals (not HUGE, but something good) but no, we got 2 point and click-
I WANTED THAT TO BE BORDERLANDS 3 SOOOOOOOO BAD.
Ahem, back to what I was saying. 2 point and click games, 2 classes for Titanfall (really? 2 (Count em, 2 slots that could have been big reveals) BIG ANTICIPATED REVEAL was 2 classes from a shooter?), some Donkey Kong thing, and some other shit which I can't remember cause it was that bad.
Holy christ. I need a cookie or somethin.
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Kills Micheal.
