I figure this is an interesting question to ask in an MK forum since a lot of ppl kinda asked the same question about the game early in the 90's. (Even tho MK's violence is more akin to oldschool asian flicks, like is the case with kill bill)

After my friend told me to read the Wiki article for the plot of Serbian Movie (Cannot unsee) and finding out the plot of the human centipide 2... I have to really ask... REALLY?!

Personally, movies like the Saw series (1 not included cause its more philosophical/thriller than anything) or Hostel are already too much for me. I dont like them, I think images of torture just for shock sake is worthless. On the other hand, things that are violence like Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, that kind of movie I enjoy. Maybe cause one is supernatural and I dont buy it while fucked up torture happens in the world every day... or maybe cause they are classic horror and the content is really not comparable to the other movies listed...

Anyways, I guess my point is that the goal for these writers and directors is to make ppl feel disgust an appall, and whatnot... but seriously, is it worth it? its not like they provoke thought, or have a point to make... they are gore to the max for gore sake. Are these movies any better than 2 girls one cup or anything like that?

I really just dont get it

While I understand the genre, I don't find it scary to watch someone get ripped to shreads in a movie anymore, it's either funny or gross. Gore and fear don't always go hand in hand. If I'm watching a movie, and it opens with Shock horror gore fest, it becomes more of a comedy than a horror movie.

If I want to scare my self I watch movies where people are powerless to powers that can't be explained away. The Exorcist, Rosemary's baby, Carrie, Paranormal activity, The exorcism of Emily Rose, IT, ect. Movies that didn't need a lot of gore to scare the shit out of me. For a movie to scare me it needs to create the aura of fear and quite frankly watching people get fake cut up just doesn't scare me anymore.

I hate all new horror movies, shock horror, stuff like paranormal activity, I just don't find it scary. planet of the apes, one flew over the cookoos nest and a clockwork orange are the only movies that have ever been good and scary at the same time imo

I enjoy shock horror. I like to see how far a director is willing to take a scene. I dislike when people who have no appreciation for this sort of art form act like their opinion is final so if they say it has no merit, then it has no merit.

I don't think gore makes a movie scary, and I don't think gore makes a good movie. I just think gore can be an element of a film.

I'd recommend High Tension.

Ah! see I get High Tension. Or Creep, they are thrillers, its not just gross for gross sake. Like Hostel and Saw, I dont particularly like them but I get them. I get how ppl can enjoy them.

Now, things like Serbian Movie and Human Centipede 2 (not even 1... cause 1 is a comedy, lets be honest), do you enjoy that? if so, why? Cause thats my point here, its not preaching on how bad they are, its just asking... IS there a point besides just going as far as they can?

Well as a movie/film fan before anything else, the human centipede has got to be some of the worst shit (and I mean five day old moldy mildewed shit) ever to be made how the hell it actually got made is beyond me. the twilight saga is oscar worthy every category compared to this horrible abomination.

the sequel...yeah seriously it got a sequel just no. my blood boils to think this got a sequel and not an underrated film like... Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which deserves a sequel before half of these other films getting them.

If I'm a horror director and I suck at scaring people how can I hide it? Hmmmmm....(snaps) I got it I'll just make things really gorey. Because making someone sick is basically the same thing as scaring them right? Right?

I know my views are subjective, but it's usually agreed upon: many modern horror movies that are decent actually aren't made in Hollywood, and most of them are foreign or independent.

Shock horror? Like the eleventy billion Saw, (and Saw Rip-Off) films? The Human Centipede? (Which was fucking stupid, once you got over the whole human centipede part.) Final DERPstination 9000? It's all over used, uninspired, and it isn't fucking scary anymore. It's annoying.

With horror films, foreign and independent directors usually aren't clinging on to a money barrel when they make their movies. They tend to be more creative and innovative with their plots and characters. I'm not saying independent and quality go hand in hand, not by any means. Several of those indie horror films are laughable at best.

However, you have those films people talk about in the corners of the internet that people tend to glance over while seeking the commercial shit. Noroi, Martyrs...the stuff that's actually worth a watch.

Nah, I'm done with shock horror. It really isn't that shocking anymore, because it lacks a plot most of the time. Same with slashers. I'm more prone to psychological or well done paranormal based horror films.

Speaking of Martyrs, they are making an American remake, the director said

"Martyrs is very nihilistic, the American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don't have to shoot yourself when it's over."

Really!? Isnt that kind of the point of the movie!? LITERALLY?!?!?!

I think that they make those movies to reach out to the deeper part of some peoples brains. Its just like when you see someone slip on the ice, trip on the stairs, or see someone get hit in the nuts by a little kid or something. Some would ask if that person was ok while others would laugh and enjoy it. Despite which person you are, there is a deep psychological thing that happens in your brain that makes you feel humor and pity both for them. This is only human nature, even if you hide enjoying them falling.

Well when directors make these types of movies, they reach out to those people. Just because you didnt enjoy it, does not mean someone else didn't for reasons of pity, humor, or they really love watching gore movies.

Personally I don't enjoy these movies, but someone does or they would stop making them. Just a matter of your taste in movies.

This is what I'm talking about. The ending, for me, was what made Martyrs so damn intriguing and...well...GOOD. Changing it may not ruin the movie, but it will definitely make it less memorable. Odds are, with an american remake, it will fuck it up.

However, I was actually impressed with the remake of Let the Right One In.(Let Me In). It stuck true to the original and changed only the RIGHT things. Well...aside from the animation. That was kind of shitty.

Horror movies is like modern art. They don't try to be good, they just want to shock people and that what horror films have become. Horror movies is new art, which means people are going be alienated and say it our fault beacuse they say "we don't get it". They need take step back and focus on having good story.

Nudist colony of the dead.

But in all seriousness, watch Salo and if you are not puking by the end of it from sheer disgust with human perversion, you have no soul.

Hostel and the kind? Choire boys compared to Salo, 120 days of Sodom.

There are three types of fear; terror, horror, and revulsion.

Terror is the deepest and the hardest to pull off.

Horror is difficult but not as much as terror.

Revulsion is just showing some perverse gore. Gore has became the fart joke of horror movies. Aiming at nothing but the lowest common denominator, catch all, basest human reaction. There needs to be some substance behind the gore for me to like a gory film.

Due to it's limited theater release. Does anyone know where I can see "Human Centipede 2 [Full Sequence] " ???

I enjoy all types of Horror movies.

Shock Horror doesn't really aim to be terrifying but it just aims to be disgusting. That is pretty much it.
