Maybe if I didn't have to memorize HTML code in order to create a fucking link, maybe more people would stick around.

@Tony, really this guy is dead on. I couldn't have said it better then him. I know EXACTLY what he is talking about.. This guy is a fucking hero.. I feel the same way. Really. Thank you for posting that.

Their "help" has basically been normal, polite behavior towards their counterpart. It seems like a decent site nevertheless, I'm not saying that.
The site has been asking for an overhaul for a long time. Recruiting additional slaves for the common issue would surely speed things up.

it all comes down to motivation.

When MK2011 was in development I was throwing out all kinds of useful stuff, but then it all just died, partially because of the PSN outage and partially because no one was really into it aside from maybe 3 people who posted regularly.

The problem is that the site is outdated, and everyone here panders to casual gamers rather than strategy.

Also the mods here drive me nuts and thats a HUGE reason that I don't come around as much.

We've made focused attempts to make the site more conducive to discussing the finer details of mechanics. I'm more than sympathetic to that and it was something that bugged me as far back as the MK: Deception days. But, leading a horse to water and all...

While we can provide avenues (and news coverage) to induce that kind of conversation, we can't bestow it on the site. That's up to the users to engage each other. We're always receptive to suggestions on the matter if anybody thinks there is something we could do on our end that would ease the flow of conversation on that particular front. We still have stuff in the works and, while I can't give an ETA, I can say that the users who want more out of MKO will be pleasantly surprised. But, as it always is with forums, it's up to you guys to make this place what you want it to be, to talk about the topics you want to talk about. We can only provide the space to do it.

That's awesome. Can't wait to see what's in store for MKO.I also agree it does pander to more casual gamers then gameplay fans.

What do you specifically mean by that? When you say "pander" are you saying that there's something we're specifically doing that makes gameplay harder to discuss? Because if there is then I'd like to know. We've tried to provide distinct areas in which users can discuss anything gameplay related with like-minded people without the clutter of other, more general themed threads clogging up the topic list. If that kind of conversation still isn't happening and people think it's something on our end that's causing it, please, don't shy away from saying so.

MKO forums = Passionate debates about canon continuity, character arcs, Kitana's shoes, story speculation, Kitana's shoes, plot reviews, Kitana's shoes, etc.

TYM/MKU forums = Passionate exploration of combat mechanics with a pro level active offline/online community.

It's really not something any one MKO admin can change. The people who are deeply invested in MK9 (as in, perpetually play this game) tend to congregate to either/or aforementioned sites.

The reason MKO doesn't have a dedicated sub-forum for each character is pretty simple: there isn't enough of a demand from the userbase. Which is fine and not a criticism, just stating the obvious.

Not Kitana's shoes, Kitana's HAIR! Haven't you been following? Tch, who would discuss something so unimportant as her shoes. She's not even wearing shoes, she's wearing boots, for crying out loud! Don't be so ignorant.

;P
Just to note, that was sarcasm.

We can't expect every single fan site to act the same. This quietness that the site always experiences after the release of a major Mortal Kombat game doesn't bother me. As long as there's still people who contributes to the thread, it's fine with me.

The only thing that ever bothers me with this site is when something seems wrong, and a lot of people are against the mods or whatever, trying to cause a shitstorm to happen. Things are trying to get solved yet everyone has their two cents to spill out, thinking that it will help get a question answered. Though, as soon as something gets solved, we treat the incident as if nothing happened.

We have that happen way too much around here...

Know what happened to this site?

Halloween costumes. That's what happened.

All joking aside, many of you know my frustration about the gameplay subject. I had thought that Fight Klub would remedy most of the issues, and it didn't because attendance was awful. It's on the userbase, myself included, to make this happen, we just need to put forth the effort.

qft!

I would have really liked to see how Fight Klub turned out. Although I was kind of a scrub at the time, it still would have been fun.

As to Tony, Mojo pretty much cleared it up. He said everything that was true. He was 100% dead on as I go to every one of those sites.

I still come here the most, even though it has the most problems because i'm dedicated to helping the people here out, and trying to introduce some gameplay activities that could keep it going. Usually every tournament is there, but when there isn't I sometimes post them. There's always people that care about one aspect of the game and another, and that's fine, it's just we wish there was more of a fanbase for both as we have put so much time and effort into this game with only around 5 people in the actual forums who care about it aswell.

Thank you for correcting me JR. Yes Kitana's hair, Sonya's heels, Mileena's eyes, Shao Kahn's helmet, revealing female clothing, Raiden's/Shinnok's amulet, "ninja or not", Tremor, Sonya's boobage, and many more topics I'm sure.

I have sort of a love/hate relationship for conversations like these (and consequentially this site).

It gets kind of depressing seeing as how sometimes one other person is online at the time. It's so lonely. Still waiting for MK10 so that things like the Kreate a Kharacter kontest can happen again and thus so can the role-playing thread. A shame that the role-playing thread died as it was getting to the good parts.

I feel as though that was my fault. Everything sort of wrapped around my character and i just left sad School/life was piling up and i couldn't make the time to come back again.

If it means anything i would of loved to see the role-playing thread continue, or even rise from the ashes.

Again i am sorry

When I say that the site panders to the casual gamer:

1. I made attempts to rally contributions from the general MK forum over to the strategy zone. Moderation was more concerned about thread placement than generating interest in mechanics. Now there is no strategy zone.

2. Users on this sight feel it is perfectly acceptable to quit mid match. If you call someone out for quitting you get skulled.

3. People here prefer to label tactics as cheap rather than dedicating to finding remedies to those tactics, if you speak against this you receive skull points.

4. Many good character strategy threads, tier discussion, and anti-repition theory threads were made, but none were sponsored or made sticky.

Thats off the top of my head. I feel like moderation did very little to make the strategy zone everything it could have been, and now it's completely absent. How much more casual can you get than eliminating the strategy forum?

1. Oh, I remember that.

2. Really?

3. I don't remember that happening.

4. That's too bad. :(

Strategy Zone is still there, just under a different name and merged with the Matchmaking forum.

You kids. I'll give you a piece and then I'll go.

A forum is a vacation. You go there. You may bring friends and family, or just to unload and get away from it all. There are interesting things, other people you may pass the time with or even argue. Depending on local customs and laws you may or may not enjoy the rule of the land, but what is law is law. Some places may even allow you to voice your concerns to the local tribesmen to affect policy.

But here is the thing: Paradise only tastes sweet when it is new, and when you are a better you. If you bring nothing but a bad manner on a vacation you will have a terrible time. Likewise, if you bring nothing but gripe to a forum you will have a bad time.

Like any resort there are fire eaters to watch and poi to consume. But even poi loses its flavor after a time.

So what do you do? You can either decide that you're going to hike around the coast. See the sights. Learn the customs. Discover a new bird. Or you can leave, stating the place wasn't as good as you remembered.

So there you are. Now, you can either keep grumbling and eventually go back home. Or you can be more proactive. Search out the little shops just off the path. This place will continue to be here whether you are or not. Are you prepared to be someone that makes it more fun for everyone?

*shrugs*

But I'm just an old man. I packed up long ago. There are days of regret. And when I do come back I don't recognize any of the locals or find very many of my old friends. Just kids on vacation now. It's a price I paid and now I have to live with it.
