I am like sandpaper and I do not do nice, except for two people who aren't MKO people. But thank you nonetheless.

You are not alone, though Tgrant is only silent. He still pays attention.

This is a great thread that truly made me think. Lets go over some of my history.

I joined right after the announcement of MKA. so like early 06, late 05? damn near 10 years ago. To put this into perspective, I am about to turn 19, and I joined when I was 10. It was the first forum I ever joined. Funny thing is, this is the only one i ever go to anymore.

So looking back at some of the posts, they are beyond cringe worthy. But it is clear like most of you said, you kind of grow up through the site. The thing that made me actually join and become a member was a thread called "Name that Character." Self explanatory. But it was my first real experience interacting with other people through the internet.

Like most people, I learned grammar and all that. I had a phase where I had to be perfect. Now im just too lazy to be bothered.

I have made a ton of friends, and I already know a bunch of people that I did the opposite with.

I learned how to use photoshop and make sigs.

I learned that no one will believe you when you say "flamekang" is not a clone account. It was my real life friend who wanted to be like me. i dont eve bother trying to prove it anymore.

I saw a ton of really cool users come and go.

I leaned that no matter how many times I will leave the site cuz im upset about something, I will always come back.

So much more stuff that I cant even think of. Bottom Line, I love this site, I love (most) of the people on it. I will always check in especially now with MKX but regardless I will.

Well, gays and lesbos are just people like everyone else. Being gay and liking videogames are not two alternate routes of life. :P

Obviously true, but it is funny how many of us there are on this particular site.

How come no one has asked what my username means? Wait, i think i explained it on the 'what does your username mean?' thread. Nevermind.

I think it has more to do with us being more open about it than on other sites, and when others see it they too feel more comfortable being open about it.

This might be an MK forum, but we are also social as a community. In between games, the General Discussion section is the most used part of the forum where people discuss more personal and social issues.

That's because it's not true.

Wow, a lot of older users popping up lately. Cool beans.

I've learned basic HTML from this place and it singlehandedly taught me to veer internet arguments into passive discussion. Never rise to somebody else's shit.

Another thing that's blatantly obvious is that no one cares about the fan art forum.

You get like one or two people commenting on your stuff and that's it. I remember when some threads could get two pages filled with comments. Now sometimes you have to beg or pray that someone leaves a decent comment in your threads. Which is a shame, I thought that stuff was always fun to look at. Now it's just kind of depressing to see it be a ghost land.

And yeah, this is coming from a person who has tried and still trying to get more people to look there. (And not neccessarily looking at just my work)

ithas to do mostly with the site aging beyond the point of activity.

Let us assess: most of the people creating this left, Mick is the sole upkeeper.
People grew out of Mortal Kombat, and the people who lingered for years eventually moved on to

MK is not relevant anymore. There is no influx of new people until the new game, and even that is questionable.

If Mick decides he had enough, the site perhaps closes. MK did not foster a fanbase that keeps the franchise alive, not to the extent of Doom, Quake, CnC, Final Fantasy, etc.

I am sorry, but it's just your very awkward grim and ill attitude towards all-things MK and people who love this series rears its head again.

The same thing could be said about any other old franchise. For a moden gamers MK is just a one-off game that originated in ancient 90-s. But so is Final Fantasy and others listed here.

Doom, Quake and CnC all have strong modding communities, but I doubt, they have a lot of newcomers and that they somehow more relevant to the modern audience than MK. For modern gamers their status is they same as that of MK.

That is because I care, because there is still this 12 year old kid at lake Balaton who first wandered into a Hungarian arcade.

MK does not seem to possess grabbing power to me. Or maybe it is this site: Crow seemingly burned out, Scott went away even before that, and I have no idea how DarqueBishop went away. Tgrant is around but silent, etc.

I do not feel the same kind of cooperative reaction as from other franchise fanbases, video game, comics or books. And no, MK is NOT on the same level as Final Fantasy, or Doom and not because of modding etc.

And I can't be sure, to be honest, to tell what is exactly that is missing. The possibility of MK finally outaging itself has occured to me. It may as well be that the recent success is due to the game mechanics, and not MK and it's only relevant factor -> gore.

But I am rambling and I am getting kinda sad.

Well, that's your opinion, which doesn't make it a fact.
I see plenty of people devoted to MK, here and in other places.

I do too. I know people who are devoted to MK and I know how numerous they are. And that makes me flinch, because it is not enough and/or active.

When MK9 came out, this site was flooded. Compared to other sites however, it was a drought.

The game itself should be what makes you like Mortal Kombat. Not the community. And if that's not the case, then you might have outgrown it and it's time to move on.

I see pretty much the same picture on all places (I visited) devoted to the old franchises. MK is not an exception. The world has changed and it is more fast-paced then before. It's natural that some people lose interest in the old series, but it's not a tragedy.

i still play MK, namely the first one and MK9 with friends. Around twice a month, and that is sufficient. I am not into the games as much as I were back then.

Have I outgrown it? Yes. Is it still entertaining? Yes.

I don't think the community has "moved on" per se. Take, for example, EB's twitter that seems to spark a new rumour on an hourly basis. It's still active just in different areas than other gamer-based online communities.

It was still active in the year before June's reveal. I was here mostly on the non-MK forum and i know i wasn't talking to myself.

I wish i still had friends that came over to play MK with me. Can't even do the online BS.
