If you're like me and have more than one mood, then you likely have music that's specifically chosen to match those moods. Think about it as you list them - do they reinforce or counteract your current state of being? And maybe as more people reply to this thread, you might discover music that would suit you at a particular time. I'm just gonna list a few of mine - if you have other physio-emotional states that you'd like to add, go right ahead:
Cheerful, like going out for a drive on a sunny day: Dave Matthews Band, Supergrass, Ride.
Depressed (and wanting to cheer up): The Sundays, Slowdive.
Depressed (and wanting to just crawl under a rock): Scorn (esp. the album Ellipsis).
So angry that I could take a sledgehammer to the world: KoRn, esp. Take A Look In The Mirror.
When it's 5am and I'm wound up from being out all night and I need to settle down: Slowdive, Verve.
Music for "the mood"
: Verve, A Storm In Heaven.
When I'm working out: Anything industrial, esp. Front Line Assembly. Anything with a good cranking beat.
That's all I can think of for now.

Thx Mk_FrEaK.
I'm glad someone mentioned classical - I forgot all about it. I like to listen to it when I'm in a creative mood, like when I'm writing. Especially Chopin.

If I'm feeling lazy and just want to relax I'll put on some Alice in Chains.
To get some agression out I'll put on some Fear Factory or Testament.
If I'm upset it's almost always Pearl Jam, and the song depends on how upset I am.
And if I want to run the gauntlet of moods I'll put on Dream Theater. I highly recommend Dream Theater. They are one of the few bands that have a 25 minute song that I can play over and over. I'm in a Theater mood right now actually.

I only really listen to scores and classical music.
Beethoven, Mozart, Vangelis, Phillip Glass, Arvo Part, Immediate Music, E.S. Posthumus, Music Junkies. Various Choral trailer music tracks and movie scores.
Stuff like that...
However, I do like Juno Reactor. Some of their stuff is really good.

Quoted for absolute truth.
Cheerful: Global Goon, older AFX
Depressed: Haven't been so in a long time. Can't recall any music. Probably newer NIN.
Angry: Enduser, the Vsnares from Making Orange Things, almost anything from XDEY's grind compilation
Music for "the mood": Saosin - Show Me Your Booty Hole. Best rap song ever.

Out of those listed I'd have to agree most on KISS and Metallica (good taste).

I find it mystifying as to why most people(young people like myself especially) seem to want to commit themselves to a certain music genre, to be a 'rocker' or a 'rapper' or a 'cowboy', do people realize how constricting that is and how much it limits your music intake?
I listen to an assortment of different types of music, hard rock, alternative, rap, jazz, blues, bhangra, southern rock, big band, techno, heck even certain country songs(mostly older ones) although I don't really care for that genre as a whole.

You know, I think I'd like to challange that theory. Yeah I know, on a whole, people do limit themselves to one particular genre. But latly I'm noticing people around my age (19-23) are starting to really broaden their tastes. Me for example, from 6th grade to 8th grade I was only listening to rap(still a shocker for some people to hear). Once I got into high school I started on nu-metal and worked my way back to late eighties to early 90's metal, never looking back on my rap listening days. Then over the past couple of years I've gotten into quite a bit of jazz, techno, j-rock and classical music due to my taste in anime. And it's not just me, I'm seeing it happen a lot on campus too; but unfortunatly there are always going to be those who won't change their tastes and these are the same people who obsses over rap, nu-metal, and or pop. Now I'm not saying I'm an expert on music (hell there are tons of people here with wider taste than me), but it just depends on who you talk to.

Well I'm definitely glad to hear that, however, considering people in my age group(15-18, I'm 16) listen to crap like 50 cent, I don't have much hope for them lol.
There is also NuJazz, which I hear is supposed to be catching on in the 18-24 group, is that true?

They listen to what THEY want to listen to, and if ONE genre of music is what they like, they have the right to disregard any other genre of music and "commit" to the single genre.

And THEY are also very narrow and lack in taste.
