this is what makes Rude Boy good and puts it at the top of my favorite songs (at the moment at least)

All of my favorite songs immediately hook me because of good instrumentals.
Rude Boy's instrumentals are off the chain especially from the start of the chorus to the end. the bridge instrumentals are also amazing.

The "Take It" portion of the chorus is sung with an addictive pitch in her voice. And the instrumentals are clearly heard behind the lyrics.

I believe the lyrical hook for me was the "want want want" part of the song. It's the kind of hook that's easy to break out into song to. Often times this hook (for me at least) is a repetition of words or something silly like "rah rah ah ah ah" from Bad Romance. If I ever break out into "Rude Boy" it usually starts off with the "want want want part.

The lyrics stick like super glue, like the "giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up babe"

I love how she puts power into her voice when she sings the verses and how she gently delivers the very end of the bridge, the "Come here right now". also that specific part flows perfectly into the next chord.

The song itself flows really well, from the verse to the chorus to the bridge back to the chorus.

My favorite part is the last twentyish second when she repeats the "take it" bit of the song. It's like the ultimate conclusion that forces me to remember the "Rude Boy" even after three songs have played.

Rihanna's voice sounds amazing from start to finish in this song. This song wouldn't be as good if any other artist sang this.

I used to hate the video. But I'm addicted to it now. My friend and I came up with some dance after recycling some of the moves she and her male dancer do in the video so it now has an epic beat to dance to.

See, Rihanna is perfectly capable of gorgeous lyrics. She really set the mood in "Rehab" and "Question Existing" when I was feeling down. See, that was fine and dandy, but I'd really rather listen to lyrics that talk about the unimportant things in life. Lyrics about lust, materialism, or partying are the ones that really hook me and make me sing them for months. "Rude Boy" is lyrics about lust sung in a fashion that I've never heard before. This is a new one to me "Rude Boy". Now I use the term "rude boy" (or rude girl) in everyday conversation. Why? Because it's fun.




And that is why I like Rude Boy so much.
It really constitues everything I want in a song.
At the end of 2009, I made a list of all the songs within the past decade that I REALLY TRULY loved. I think Rude Boy is gonna be very close to the top this time around.
