Whatever happend to the weekly signature competition in MKO?

I posted this thread in the MK Fan Art Forum, but since that forum is completely dead, the General Discussion seems a little more fitting.

For those who don't recall, there used to be a weekly signature competition in MKO where anyone could enter, and you basically create a signature that resembled the weekly theme. For example:

Week 1 - Mortal Kombat. Make any signature that represents Mortal Kombat.

Users would enter the contest by creating a signature of that theme. Each contest lasted about a week. There was a panel of judges for the competition that rated the signatures and eventually picked out the winners for each contest. Winners would receive Dragon Points, 1st place earned you x-amount (I think it was around 3) and 2nd x-amount, etc.

I remember back in the day this existed in MKO. I always thought it was pretty neat, and very fun. This is a competition that most forums have, and if you look at other forums this game is usually pretty popular. I'm just to curious as to why it was cancelled and if we could get it going again!
There`s a thread by Bleed explaining that Korporate MK killed the Fan Spriting Kommunity, because my peers, and colleagues` projects got too big. Various elements were incorporated into MKX, from what I`ve seen. Nice trade off, rather than gettin yer ass sued...

My other peers, and colleagues seem to have simply moved on with their lives or got too overwhelmed with requests to keep up.



They would`ve been smart to hire these extremely talented folk.

I don't quite understand.

What does that have to do with a signature competition?

I think Tetra thought you were referring to the Sprite competitions, maybe? I believe such a thing existed, if I'm recalling correctly.

Ah.

Well the thread title clearly stated "signature competition", not sprite competition. That seems to be something entirely different in nature and I'd rather not get into that subject.
Some did both. Some of the other artists work in several areas.

Arctc made sprites, then userbars for sigs, then sigd, etc...

I'm just calling for the weekly signature competition that used to exist in MKO.

Where anyone had the ability to enter for that week's contest. I'm not really speaking for "artist", just the community as a whole.

I've heard quite a few fans complain about the MK Kollective site. Since pretty much everything MK related is correlated and quantified there now. I'm sure it's not the only reason fan submission forums have died out, but I think it's a big part of it. That's pretty much what I think when I hear "Korporate MK". Or WB hand of death. Whichever you prefer. Shame really. I know that doesn't have much to do with a sig competition on MKO though, so...

Even though I've become rusty as hell, with PS anyway, I'd be down to kickstart this again.

"Perfect practice makes perfect", as they say.

It seems as though there's little we can do in regards to that subject.

But we can do something about trying to get this competition rolling again. I mean, there are some talented PS users here and I think people would be genuinely interested in it. Also I think for the community it's something fun, interesting, and a cool way for users to show off their skills all in good fun.

My sig is my artwork back from 09' and I'm probably really, really rusty haha.

I'm definitely down to start the competition again. If we can get few other users on board I think we could do it.

Just not the same as it used to be. Plus a lot of BS happened during that time. Shit went downhill real fast.

Wow, that's a shame. I don't understand how such a simple and fun game could cause so much trouble?

Was it no administered right? Problems with the panel of judges? I'm actually curious. I know you probably won't want to get into too much detail.

Whining is easier than doing something. Starting with contrived reasons it "can't" work might just keep enough people away to avoid ever having to try, or put any effort in. That about sums it up. Next time - just get on with it.
