Sexualized female characters constantly get accused of looking like whores, and that obviously wouldn't be a problem if some people didn't have an issue with whores. So why the disdain for them, strippers, and porn stars?

I understand why conservatives hate them, being prudes and all, even though they'd the the first to cry if whores suddenly disappeared and left them stuck with equally prudish spouses, but why would liberal-minded types, who supposedly are in favor of equal rights for the genders, have a problem with prostitution that isn't forced on anyone? By accusing people of looking like whores, you may as well be saying it's their fault if they get raped.

I admire prostitutes, strippers and porn stars. It must take such a strong stomach and yes, courage, to work in those professions, with all those ugly, repulsive losers (often the family-values types) who have nothing going for them other than money. But because their jobs involve sex, they aren't considered worthy of respect like fighters of any kind (boxers, MMA contestants, etc). Heh, prudes.

I can't hate whores just for being whores. Those who are forced into it are victims. Those who choose to do it out of desperation, can still be considered strong-willed. I'm not sure I could do it, even under dire circumstances. Those who do it willingly, even though they could do other things, are even more impressive. I know, female prostitutes of the third category would be thought of by liberal-types as willingly degrading themselves for men (but conveniently ignore male prostitutes doing the same thing), but what they don't realize is that these women are getting men, very rich ones, to pay them for sex. For some people, that's empowering.

Jerkoffs like Rush Limbaugh getting laid isn't impressive, since they have to pay for it. But of course, for some reason the whores that rightfully use people like him are the ones thought unimpressive and disrespectable. People really have it backward.

With all of that said, I must ask, again: what's wrong with whores, anyway?

Very few people, even amongst conservatives, actually hate whores (as in people who have sex for profit). When people say they hate whores, they're usually not talking about the women having sex for money. They're talking about women who manipulate people with sexual attraction for bad reasons (trying to sleep with another girls boyfriend, etc.).

But your question walks all over the place. Do people hate whores? Generally, no. Nobody gives a shit.

If you're asking "what is wrong with being a prostitute?" That's a totally different question and warrants a different answer. Being a prostitute is a horribly detrimental life style that can often lead to all sorts of psychological damage. It's physically unhealthy as fuck. Condoms aren't foolproof, and they aren't built to protect you against every possible STD. There are STD's you can get just by skin-to-skin contact.
If you cared about someone, you probably wouldn't want them to be a prostitute or a porn star.

If anything, conservatiove Bible thumpers are objectively worse than prostitutes. Coincidentally, countries allowing controlled and taxed prostitution deal with less sex crimes.

Being a whore isn't an issue. It's what follows with it that is troublesome. A whore, or rather, a prostitute is someone who has sex for money with alot of different clients. That in itself is something many don't want to be associated with, because it suggests that you can be bought for money. It lowers your self-worth. It also suggests that anyone can do so. Prostitution, pornstars and strippers also go hand in hand with STD's and drug-abuse.

There are alot of negative things that are connected with being a whore. And I don't say that because I'm a prude, as I'm not. I am in the belief that people are free to choose what they want to do with their lives and bodies.

Would you also say that violent sports are also detrimental? Because if prostitution is bad, then you could also make a case against violent sports. I don't exactly see what makes sexually transmitted deseases worse than brain-damage and crippled bodies.

I don't know how you feel about violent sports, but I brought them up because of the reverance for those who participate in them. Many people truly act as if they're much more worthy of respect than prostitutes, probably because they hurt people, and risk getting hurt. Like prostitution can't be rough, even for those who willingly cater to a rougher crowd (in short, masochistic prostitutes). Chances are, it's because violence is more associated with men, and prostitution with women, macho garbage like that.

I'm pretty sure people on this board rever fighters more, when they accuse female fighting game characters like Jade and the DOA (Dead or Alive) gals of looking like prostitutes, porn stars and strippers, while obviously considering designs like Scorpion's oh so badass.

Heh heh, something just occured to me. Not completely related, but could the term "badass" used to describe tough individuals, in fact refers to them having a bad ass, thus not fuckable, unlike attractive gals like Li Mei or Ada Wong's RE4 self, and therefore, more respectable, in macho logic. Maybe it's one of the many things Scorpion's angry about, his bad ass. And well, Raiden in MGS2 was accused of looking too feminine and pretty, implying badass Snake was ugly.

I'm all for legalizing prostitution, and all drugs. Not saying things would be perfect even then, but a lot of problems could be solved.

I have no problems with whores, I would have a problem with my sister, mother or daughter becoming a whore, but if its not somebody I personally care about go be a whore, I don't care lol

The problem with them is that people think they're nasty, skanky, bitches who fuck for money.

When people don't realize that most whores don't like fucking for money, and they do it only because they don't have enough money and desperately need it.

I WAS a prostitute. Two summers ago i had nothing else going for me in terms of jobs b/c the job market stinks. I enjoyed it for the most part but there were some clients that were less than desirable - i actively block that from my memory. The reason i stopped is mostly due to the owner of the shop dying unexpectedly of a heart attack. I always used condoms and got regular check ups (i get check ups anyway b/c i'm promiscuous by nature).

There is a lot to be said for it, if you are in control. I like sucking dick and i like getting paid - so doing one for the other was strangely empowering. However there was the internal struggle that felt like i was just debasing myself to the lowest common denominator, but that subsided pretty quickly after i started reading philosophy books and i knew in myself that i have a brain and don't need to prove anything to anyone else. Intellectually or sexually.

It's way too easy for people to judge - maybe they think it's taking the easy way out, or maybe they are jealous, or maybe they are just too wrapped up in a black/white moral view. One thing i do know is hookers don't care what other people think, they only care about what they themselves think - with or without the inner turmoil.

As for MK women looking like strippers and whores, well, some of the girls i used to work with wore MORE covering than the outfits in MK9. How appropriate for a deathmatch do you think those "fantasy" costumes are now?
