2 days ago, Microsoft revealed its new next gen console, the Xbox One. A few months prior to that, Sony revealed its next gen console, the PS4. Now I know some of us are fans of either one or fans of both, but I want MKO's opinion of the 2 consoles. I will give both specs of each and features that the respected company has announced to the public.

Xbox One reveal (honestly, its the best I found on youtube)

Xbox One specs:

Xbox One features:

Kinect with probably the best motion sensor in the world
Alotta entertainment apps
Windows 8 I believe is also in the system (could be wrong about that)
Uses Internet explorer (duh)
Fixed D-pad
Haven't heard much about the new controller so can't say anything about it
Achievements can change or be altered or whatever (Don't know if thats a good thing)
New exclusive games (probably sports and FPS :3)

Xbox One not so good features:

Pay full retail price for used games
Not backwards compatible
Xbox Arcade games do not transfer over
Have not heard about Microsoft streaming 360 (or original xbox) games via cloud
Kinect always has to be plugged in and on
Pretty much always has to be connected to internet to use most of the features in the console (you pretty much have to have internet to use the thing)

Playstation 4 reveal

Playstation 4 specs:

Playstation 4 features:

Stream live gameplay
Ask help from friend if he/she has the same game if needed (pretty much, they can take over your game if you are stuck on a part via share button thing whatevs)
Record and upload in HD
Stream PS1/2/3 games from Gaikai (eventually)
Try any digital games for free before buying them
Play games while their downloading (So, if a game is at 1%, you can start playing it while it completes its downloading process)
Play any PS4 game then switch to Vita via Remote Play

Ps4 not so good features

Not backwards compatible

...

I'm seriously not trying to be a fanboy here. Sony has not revealed much of the PS4 thats negative other than its not backwards compatible. That could be just me so don't take my opinion to heart.

And if I missed anything, please feel free to correct me.

Thats all I got so far for the 2 systems. Obviously more will be revealed on E3. Watch the videos or if you have already, gimme your thoughts about them. Which one do you prefer? PS4? Xbox One? Or both?

In my opinion, I'm leaning PS4. If push comes to shove, 3DS. Microsoft needs to get their heads out of their asses and reveal some badass shit at E3 for all the stuff they revealed 2 days ago. I have no idea why they would want to limit their consumers like that. I've heard nothing but horrible stuff ever since that conference. They've practically made their console into a TV/Computer. One use games. All that cable shit.

Thats another thing, why do they have all these features of live TV? We already have a fucking cable box to watch tv in the first place, we don't need another one so we can fucking wave our hands at the tv like an idiot just to change a few screens. Thats what a remote control is for. And if we don't have cable, all your incredible cable TV features are fucking useless. All I saw were sports and internet. Sports, okay I can understand. Internet. I'm sure we have a computer outside the console. Why else would we have internet.

I don't know. I think they just wasted so much time on all this entertainment needs instead of games. Thats why we buy it. To play revolutionary games. Not to play a game, swish our hands around to change a panel to tv.

Ugh.

Rant over. Your turn.

There's nothing that would make me buy an X1 so far. Pseudo-DRM, shitty gimmicks, used games fee, Xbox Live.

I'm sure at some point Sony is going to say some things people aren't necessarily going to agree with or like...it's inevitable.

That being said, right now I'm leaning PS4. There are too many things about the xbox one I just can't get on board with right now.

Always on Kinect camera. To hell with that noise. To me, this is a massive invasion of privacy and will ultimately serve as an information gathering tool for Microsoft masked as an integral way to control the box...as if the controller weren't doing the job just fine. Oh...and the box won't work unless the kinect is plugged in...awesome.

The focus on t.v. As I said in a previous thread...I had no idea watching t.v. was as difficult as microsoft is making it out to be. Technologically, I'll play devils advocate and say that these features are interesting. It's not something I want though...I damn sure don't want it in a GAMING console.

Not always on...but kinda. It's being reported as of right now, that you will have to log into xbox live at least once every 24 hours for the box to function. Overall this doesn't affect me. I pretty much log into psn or live whenever I play. It does however suck for the thousands of people with a shit internet connection...or no internet at all. Despite what microsoft seems to believe.,,they do in fact exist. Lets not forget the fact that cloud computing has been confirmed as a tool for developers to utilize for IN GAME assets. How is this gonna work for people with a crap internet connection? Will the games suffer because of this?

I'm not even going to get into games being linked to accounts/used game fees. There isn't enough info right now......but it doesn't sound good.

Like I said, Sony's hand hasn't been completely dealt as of yet...but I can't see a scenario where they outright fuck up like microsoft has. I keep saying I'll wait to see microsoft's game offerings at e3 before I make my decision...but I don't see much on the horizon that will make me suffer through the amount of shit they seem to be offering.

Microsoft has already said what the system will do. In my opinion, games aren't going to change what I think of it. Lets just hope Sony doesn't do the same at E3.

I'm gonna get a PS4. I tried not to be a fanboy and watched the Xbox reveal and although I like the nfl sports exclusives a ton it's still about gaming at the end of the day. Sony has learned from their mistakes with the last console and is trying its best to correct it so it seems. We still don't know much about the PS4 in all honesty. So who knows if it has similar entertainment features as the Xbox one.

Sony's PS4 reveal= "Gaming" industry leaders talking about how awesome the next gen playstation is gonna be.

Xbox One reveal="entertainment" industry leaders speaking about how the next gen Xbox is gonna be revolutionary to our living rooms.

So I can't see why anyone would lean Xbox right now anyway.

Wii U, baby, Wii U. I would honestly just stick with that one console this generation, but I've got a feeling the next Mortal Kombat won't make it over there. And that just won't fly. I think I'd go with the PS4 though to be honest. From a completely unbiased standpoint, I kind of regret getting the Xbox first (or at all really) because of Live, while Playstation Network was free. Since I'm not really partial to any first-party series (talking about Microsoft vs. Sony; I couldn't live without Nintendo's), the choice seems clear.

Over the last few years, I've leaned more towards the PS3 for gaming, and I don't even like Sony products.

Microsoft has been seriously falling flat. It seems I am more likely to get the PS4. To be honest, until Microsoft stops charging for online play, I don't ever see myself getting another Xbox console.

PS4 it looks like. There are no Xbox exclusives that appeal to me apart from Forza. and the allways online, used game ban thing is pathetic.

I'l be in no rush to get a PS4 though I've lost interest in gaming lately.

So I will admit this: The rumbling triggers on the Xbone's (I'm calling it the Xbone, deal with it) controller seem almost cool.

Not enough to sway my Wii U/PS4 decision though.

This applies to me as well. But my reasons for getting a PS4 are a bit less about brand loyalty. (I have owned Nintendo consoles though)

- The games. One thing I constantly love about PS is the exclusives they always make. They make a new IP every year, which is great because I love variety in exclusives.

- The free online. Honestly, after I played on PSN for free I asked myself why anyone should pay for online at all? This should be free and available to everyone.

- Xbox One is a cable box for right now.

- I'll never get a Wii U because motion gaming is a stupid gimmick.

- I've owned all Playstation consoles from PS1-PS3. The nostalgic value of being an old school PS gamer also has an effect on me.

- I'm impressed with what PS has done so far for the PS4 online. They seem to really want to step up the online. (Which was arguably the weakest thing about PS3)

Wii U first, PS4 second, Xbox One...NEVER

If they reveal more games for PS4, then it'll be tied with the Wii U

A new IP is to be revealed at E3. Along with some probable blockbusters like God of War 4 and Uncharted 4.

I always withhold judgment when it comes to consoles prior to getting all of the information. I recall when the Original Xbox came out, a lot of people were going "Microsoft? Video game system? Ahahaha, this is the PipPin all over again! It'll never catch on!" We can nitpick all we like now, but one of them may have something up their sleeve for E3 that will make people erupt in their pants and change the playing field. Or, we'll just see more Netflix voice activation.

Xbox is getting so much bad press right now. I do have to say that I love it's features. Sports features speak to me more than it does most people. I love sports. But PS has the better games hand down! It's also from what I understand the more powerful system. I really don't know much about the computing stats of each system so I'd really like someone to break it down for me in lamens terms. The prices are what's gonna be really interesting. PS4 will probably cost more but it will be worth it if you don't have to pay to play online.

Gamespot has a new article stating that the PS4 may have similar DRM for used games, as the Xbox One: PS4 May Have Used game DRM.

Everyone seems to be giving the Xbox One a lot of flack right now about its used game policy, but the fact is that Sony hasn't officially announced how it plans to handle its used games. All they have said so far is that they plan do right by consumers with used games. Analysts don't think that developers will let one console developer handle used games considerably different than the other.

The cost should be comparable to the Xbox One if not less. Sony has said that they are using off the shelf PC parts, there is nothing custom about the hardware for the PS4. Which should keep the cost of the system down.

PS4 is still considerably ahead with people. Even if they had the same used game policy as Xbox, I'm still fairly confident they'd still prefer PS4.

PS4 would have to fuck up so bad at E3 for Xbox One to be the preferred alternative.

As it stands, I'm currently on track to boycott this upcoming generation and become a PC gamer for the first time in my life.

PS4 might win me over in the end though. There's almost no chance of the Xbone doing that.
