The first review is in for the game. Game Informer has given it a 9.5! I found a link to a scan of the review on another forum.
[edit]: I also came across a cast listing of the voice actors for the game, and which characters they voice. Apparently in addition to the villains that are already known the only other villain I noticed making an appearance is the Riddler (weather he's actually in the game, or if it's just a voice over is unknown). But Two Face, and Mr. Freeze aren't listed.
[update]: After reading the review it seems like Game Informer's reason for giving the game a 9.5 instead of a 10 is that they say the final boss battle is a major letdown, and a good idea gone to waste. But they went on to say that Batman: AA is this years Bioshock.

Wow 9.5? Guess it gets better after the demo. (The demo I played was for PS3 and at Wal-Mart.)

The demo was okay, nothing that totally blew me away. One thing that immediately disappointed me, personally, was the combat; not only did it not offer anything not offered by games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the dramatic slowdown before each final blow quickly became annoying. Like most modern games, the gameplay was a little simplistic, which is understandable considering the game's target audience (and by that I mean non-"hardcore" gamers), but the control scheme seemed a little too convoluted, where I had to think about what button did what before I could do what I wanted to do. On the other hand, the writing, voice-acting, animation, and graphics in general all seem to have had a good deal of care put into them.

Also, $30 (equivalent) for a plastic batarang is never a good deal.

It's detective mode. It acts as an Xray vision for batman to locate enemies that are obstructed by objects or around corners.

That. There's also another commercial floating around advertising the "Dem Bones" Scarecrow challenge map you receive when you preorder from gamestop.

Nice, I had a vibe this game would get positive reviews(although usually I don't listen to majority) GI is usually one of the more unbias mags, I like GP also.

I'm hyped for this game, the demo owned. Can't imagine the whole game! Besides, nothing wrong with simplistic foach if it works which it does, the gameplay doesn't have to be "technically deep" for the game to work or be fun. Know what I mean? It looks like a lot of fun :)

New trailer is up from gametrailers.com. Nothing gameplay wise, just a video on the history of Arkham Asylum, it really sets a grim tone for the game which is awesome.

So I been reading and this game is getting great reviews.
I can't find a review where someone has given this game under a 9.
So i'm probably gonna get it,i put $20 down on the CE a few days ago before it was pulled and no one could preorder it no more.Granted,after reading it only comes in a fuc*ing sleeve and not the case I think I am going to cancel it and just get the normal one,I rather have the case that and $100 now is just seeming to much,I thought i would preorder the CE just to give myself the option cause i get paid on monday but yeah thats just to much money on a video game.

Anyways,anyone going to the midnight release of this game??Last few days I've been getting pretty excited for this.

I too have been anticipating this game for a long time now, and can't believe it's now only a couple of days away. It's been getting great reviews, which don't matter that much as they are in the eye of the beholder, but it's definitely nice to see such positive reviews none the less.

Just for everyone's knowledge I wrangled up some review scores for an easy collection of the gaming site's/magazine scores:

1UP = A-
EuroGamer = 9/10
Game Informer = 9.5/10
Game Master UK = 96/100
GamePro = 4/5
GameTrailers = 9/10
IGN = 9.3/10
OIfficial Xbox Magazine UK = 9/10
NZGamer = 9/10
Play.tm = 94/100
Playstation Official Magazine US = 5/5
PSM3 Magazine UK = 92/100
TeamXbox = 9.1/10

It averages out to about 91%.

I am sure a lot of you are like me and have played the demo a lot, and I thought I would share some cool tidbits or things I noticed or had done that maybe you hadn't known about:

1. 2 Riddler trophies found in the demo.
- First is in the beginning room where you first fight the inmates, and you gain it from going in the vent in that room.
- Second is in the room where you stop Zsasz, and it is in another vent located in that room.

2. Press RB after throwing the batarang and you can follow it.

3. Press RT when doing a glide kick to see it from your opponent's perspective.

4. When in the room with Zsasz, you can use detective mode to see through a wall into the cell that appears to be that of Maxi Zues, as you can see his name written on the wall.

5. Tap LT to do a quick batarang.

Here's a list of take downs that can be achieved in the demo:

1. Silent Take Down
-Just sneak up behind an enemy and hit Y/Triangle.

2. Vertical Take Down
-While on top of a gargoyle, wait for an opponent to walk under you and then that Y/Triangle and you will hang him upside down by his feet from the gargoyle. (You can also cut him down by throwing a batarang at the rope, which can take out another guy if timed right)

3. Corner Take Down
-Inside the stealth room at the last part, get against a wall and walk to the corner, you will be able to not only throw batarangs, but also you can pull off a corner take down when an opponent is walking through the doorway.

4. Glass Take Down
-Stand on top of the glass in the last room, and while an opponent is walking under you tap Y/Triangle, you will then crash through the glass and knock him out.

5.Rail Take Down
-In the last room, if you shoot your grappling gun at one of the railings above you will be able to move along the edge, when a guy passes by tap Y/Triangle and you will smash his face into the rail and then pull him over.

6.Ledge Take Down
-There is only one spot to do this in the demo, which is in the final room at the very back where there is a ladder and then the Joker door. Lure your opponent up the ladder by using batarangs etc., and then jump down and proceed to use your grapple gun to hook yourself back up on the ledge, when he gets close tap Y/Triangle and you should grab his foot and pull him down.

Hope this list offered something new to give you a reason to play through the demo again. Have fun.

Thanks for listing those. A youtube video was posted showing some of them, but I was unaware of the ledge takedown. The railing takedown is kind of tricky to pull off. Also cutting down 1 of the guys to take out another 1 I thought was kind of logical and was in the game, but I couldn't get it to work in the game. I'll have to try it again.

Yeah same here. Definitely a worth while game. I can't remember the last game I've come across where I was as sucked in, as i have been with this game. I think I've been playing it for the better half of the past 11 hours. I really needed to pull myself away from it. Only breaks I've taken so far was to eat dinner, and walk my dog.

[edit]: I've got a riddle for" What walks on 4 legs, then 2 legs, then finally 3?"...lol Anyone who has played the game will get it.

Such an amazing game. I've been playing a little bit of the story and challenge modes at a time, and it's been awesome. I actually got as far as number 9 on one of the challenge mode leaderboards, so that was pretty sweet.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
As for the story, It's awesome so far. I just locked up Harley Quinn and decided to take a break. I have to admit that there are moments when Scarecrow steals the show. Those portions of the game are amazing.

Game deserves every bit of praise it's earned.

Game of the year material.

Too bad it gets repetitive after time, you really want to race through the obstacles to get to the plot cutscenes. This bodes not well for replay value though.

I agree. I beat the campaign in a little over a day (played for nearly 10 hours straight the first day I was that hooked on it). I've already completed all the riddler challenges, and half of the Challenge rooms (all of the predator challenge rooms), I just can't beat the combat challenge rooms, but I honestly don't see a whole lot of replay value. The asylum is empty after you beat the game. No thugs to beat up or anything, which makes getting any remaining upgrade you might not have initially gotten before beating the game kind of pointless.

I don't get where all these 9 out of 10 reviews are coming from. I played the demo and it was pretty boring. The gameplay is very restricted, like there's only one way of taking out certain enemies and the combat system was lame.

It didn't feel like it gave the players much freedom, it was more like follow the instructions and indicators type of thing.

I really do like the graphics though.

It's getting 9/10 reviews because of the production value. The game has some really good graphics, and interesting story, and very good voice acting. That's mostly due to the fact that the story for the game was written by 1 of the producer/writers for the animated tv series, not to mention that a lot of voice actors from the show also reprise their roles in the game.

What the demo really shows is the tutorial part of the game, the rest of the game does mix a lot of the elements up at times (some of them aren't in the demo either) like having to track down people (like a DR, the warden, or Harley Quinn) using detective mode. As far as combat goes it seems simple, but it can be tough having to deal with swarms of enemies at once, and trying to not take damage (especially in the challenge rooms, where you need to get a high combo with out taking damage in order to score really high). Add in other types of enemies (I don't want to spoil it), but combat can be annoying at times later in the game. The game also mixes it up by throwing in later in the game electric baton, and knife wielding enemies at you as well. Plus later in the game they start booby trapping the gargoyles so you can't use them.
Wow Titan Joker was insane, my roomate beat the game already, but I saw him playing the very end. Looks amazing

That's nothing. You should check out the Scarecrow sections of the game. There much more enjoyable. Easily the best parts of the game.
