No way early Jax was better than early Sub-Zero. Jax is one of the characters who got buffed the most, he didn't have armor on his enhanced dash punch originally, he couldn't cancel his ground pounds and if I'm not mistaken his projectiles had more recovery frames.

Even now after all the buffs for Jax he's like upper mid-tier and Sub-Zero after all the nerfs is lower mid-tier. When you undo the changes they and other characters have gone through (like Reptile getting armor on his en. slide, Cage getting armor on his en. shadow kick, Sonya's en. cartwheel getting more frames of armor -> all these hurt Sub-Zero and his ice-cone game) there's no way original Jax was better than original Sub-Zero.

Also, saying Kung Lao and Cyrax were way above everyone else is debatable and probably not true because Kabal back then had a f+3, 2 ~ NDC infinite and we all know how good Kabal is without the infinite.

I remember this one time during SSF4 main days, when Justin Wong and Daigo played an exhibition match where Daigo picked Guile. Now Guile wasn't a character that a lot of people played. Until Daigo managed to win one round, and than had the match end in a draw. It didn't take long for the Guile forum on srk.com to become the center of attention, even if it was just for a few days.

That's the dominant spirit of the FGC, it seems. See a pro owning it up with a certain character, and then try to imitate him.

Just like people all went to Kung Lao at the beginning of MK, I'm sure the character that will be played the most is the one that wins the first (couple of) tournament(s).

And here I am, still playing Sheeva and Quan Chi.
