They could be referring to the ancient Takeda that left the Lin Kuei to found the Shirai Ryu clan.

Kyohei isn't a known Sub-Zero, so I'm assuming he's their ancestor in that user's fanfic.

The founder of the Shirai Ryu defected from the Lin Kuei and founded the Shirai Ryu in Japan.

My post for fan MK 12 dialogue between Scorpion and Sub-Zero is just an idea if they take the story back the Great Kung Lao's time then Takeda could be the first Scorpion while the Sub-Zero I called Kyohei is a just a fan idea name for this particular Sub-Zero.

It would be cool if they were close friends like Smoke and Sub-Zero but end up enemies after Takeda defects.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool.

If it's taking place for the tournament where Kung Lao claims the title of Grand Champion from Shang Tsung, that would likely place it sometime in the mid 15th century (Goro reigned for 500 years).

And if they want to include people from other nations beyond the East-Asia, they could, in theory, try to get at least Nightwolf (maybe this Nightwolf could have crossed the Bering Strait after the Great Spirit tells them about the Mortal Kombat tournament happening across the Pacific, sent to aid the Great Kung Lao). It wouldn't be hard, though, to get people from across the Old World to arrive for the tournament. (Like possibly a knight and his squire, an Indian noble, a Steppe warrior, and potentially a kombatant from Polynesia or Hawaii.)

It also ought to be interesting to see whether Shang Tsung even exists in Liu Kang's New Era at all, or if he's gonna be replaced with some other character. Possibly one we've never seen before.

8 - Not nearly enough mirror dialogues about time travel in a game that has a plot literally about time travel.
