I voted Fujin because although they did a great job with Tanya in this game, I'll give them that, she just doesn't interest me nearly as much as Fujin does. Fujin needs to be playable, man. It's just what's best for business.

Fujin lacks a personality, is a non factor to the story, and all of his playable appearances have been completely mediocre.

Tanya fans think because they're the loudest and most obnoxious they somehow represent a large contingent of the fanbase. I've never seen a more miserable group in all of MK.

"WalletSwap" sets up a strawman argument that Fujin hasn't been playable since MKA as to why he's not worthy and "Giggles" follows that up this gem: "Fujin hasn't had a decent playable appearance since his debut. Yet he's "so much better" smh." I wish more people would think before they typed.

Tanya couldn't be any more generic if she tried. She's essentially a palette swap...another dark hair, "ninja" girl. Yellow in this case (with Jade, Kitana, Li Mei, and Mileena, filing out the rest of the spectrum. Scarlet too if we're ignoring hair color). I get her confused with Li Mei more oft than not.

Reiko owns the comics, but I'm voting for Shang for nostalgia. Can't wait to see him make his appearance in MK11.

Shang was great in MK1, but they handled him wrong since Deadly Alliance. They made him look like a wimp, a coward. And for fans to love a character, he needs to be brave. Only the MK Conquest series did him justice

I don't know if there's a so called "Tanya fans" group collectively think they are so great or whatever, but the miserable thing is that "forgettable" character hit so many people's nerves that everytime i see a post favors Tanya, another one follows telling how anybody dare to like her with an article full of "butthurt" you say? Any character may be someone's favorite, get over it.
I personally think matching a character playable at ages ago with MKX ones is unfair, more unfair is choosing former one because he/she has "potential". Let's see him/her first huh? Same applies to Tanya-Tremor match which we didn't see how latter one plays yet.

Shang is one of the most fun characters to play as in MK2011 and that made me like him more than ever before, despite his unimpressive costumes.

But...

I've always liked Reiko way more. One of the most fun characters to play as in both MK4 and MKA, one of the best looking characters (MKA) and his Konquest cameo in MKA was very intriguing. And now he's owning the comics, #1 character for me in the comics. Absolutely love him!

So yeah, Reiko.

I cannot wait for either's next playable appearance. Even though I'm a huge Ermac fan, I really wouldn't mind his ending being proved canon. It's coming time for his temporary break considering it doesn't seem like they know what to do with him at this point.

The comics did wonders for Reiko! I would really love to see him back now. I was never big on him, but Kittlesen developed him sooo well. It's got me wanting more!

Its become trendy to hate the MK1 characters that aren't Sub and Scorp, evidently. Lol. My mind is still boggled by how Erron and Shinnok beat Sonya and Cage.

If Shang loses to Reiko, I won't be as surprised, however. They really did assassinate his character in the last game. I agree Reiko needs work, but the comic definitely is a step in the right direction.

Interesting matchup. Even more interesting that Reiko and shang are neck and neck - as of this post it's 50/50.

I chose Shang - not just because he's iconic, he's just one of my favorite characters...ever. He embodies the homage to 70's kung fu cinema - he is the elegant and deceptively dangerous bad guy. Frail old man? Hardly.

Reiko - I always wanted better things for him. I hated Armageddon but the one thing that game did was actually give Reiko a personality (and a better character design). He was actually pretty damn cool. The comic expanded upon that in leaps and bounds - he is my favorite character in the comic.

But I had to go with Shang.

I never cared much for Shang Tsung. His moves don't appeal to me and he lost some of his uniqueness when he stopped shapeshifting in-game. I think he looked his best in Deadly Alliance and if he does come back I hope his costume takes inspiration from that era. It was very detailed but the PS2 couldn't pull it off. It would look awesome in HD.

Reiko I loved in MK4. He was one of my favs and I loved his transition in Armageddon. I thought for sure we'd get him in MKX and I'm sad he didn't make it. I still have hopes he could in the Kombat Pack 2, simply because of how popular he got because of the comics. I'd want him over Havik.

I agree - because of the "limitations" transitioning from cartridge roms that featured instant loading to a compact disc based medium, Shang lost the quality that made him the most unique, and I really appreciated the fact that, as a boss character in MK9, they gave him back that ability, but only pre-loaded a few characters that he could transform into so as to avoid excessive loading. He DID lose some of his mystique and appeal overall.

also agree with you regarding his DA era attire - I really liked it, both the main costume and the secondary, which was a throwback to his MK1 comic book look.

This was a difficult vote. I am a fan of both Reiko and Shang...but in the end I went with Reiko. He has a ton of potential and I am hoping he makes it in Mk11. Plus I loved his gameplay in MKA.

A majority of a fan base can behave a certain way. From what I've seen from this topic no one has reacted with irritation the way some Tanya fans did when they saw that Fujin was pwning her on the vote polls. So yeah, there was some butthurt going on. Fujin fans simply jumped in to defend themselves after a few post of Fujin and Fujin fan dissing.

Fujin's quality as a character hardly has anything to do with how many games he has been playable in. (That's why Kotal almost beat Shao and Erron beat Sonya.) He is simply more interesting to more people. Concept, design, and yes potential, it all plays a factor.

Awww, I missed Fujin vs Tanya and Johnny vs Shinnok. Would have voted Fujin and Johnny. Kinda shocked Johnny lost. Guess the gods have more fans than I thought.

Reiko vs Shang is hard, but I'll go for Reiko because he's currently being badass in the comics.
